About Anna Jaques Hospital

Anna Jaques Hospital Two North is a primary care provider in Newburyport, Massachusetts. They also offer specialty services like psychiatric care through their inpatient behavioral health facility. This facility addresses mental health issues and substance use disorders in adults. They also treat dual diagnosis for adults simultaneously affected by addiction and mental health issues. Specialized maternal substance use disorder treatment and support are available through their Persist Program. This serves women during pregnancy and the first year after giving birth.

Their recovery process is focused on improving your emotional health and quality of life. This is made possible through individualized treatment delivered by highly skilled and compassionate care professionals. These include certified psychiatrists, nurses and social workers. These experts provide psychiatric and substance abuse evaluation or assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

Treatment incorporates evidence based practices like group therapy that fosters peer support and encourages shared learning. This treatment helps you develop solid coping and relapse prevention strategies.

Their comprehensive inpatient services include medication management, case management and crisis oriented intensive family consultation. The latter involves immediate, focused support and guidance to families dealing with urgent or severe issues.

They collaborate with outpatient clinicians, community agencies and family members to ensure comprehensive support and continuity of care. This is essential in helping prevent relapse after inpatient care. Your case manager can help you access essential social services like housing and employment assistance if needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

truck-medical icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Due to various health issues that substance abuse causes, 24-hour clinical care in Massachusetts is often a necessary part of treatment. Individuals may be suffering from infections, illness, or organ damage. Having 24-hour care available ensures that these physical problems are treated along with the psychological effects of addiction. Once individuals complete detox and are medically stable, this intensive level of supervision ends, and the next phase of treatment can begin.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Electroconvulsive Therapy

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Hospital Is Up to Something

Multiple reports of abuse of patients, hospital doesn't follow state guidelines during admissions process, 0 transparency during process, possibility of extensive billing fraud. doctors don't admit family in a timely fashion, ignore calls, and lie to cover their tracks.

Rooms are clean and spacious, and the food is pretty good for my standards. Although they require many unnecessary tests, in a vague effort to make more money it seems :/

I called the hospital a few moments ago trying to reach a patient. The operator that answered the phone was extremely rude. I was spelling the name of the patient and she had zero patience. She also refused to provide me with her name, and transferred me elsewhere. I am shocked that this hospital has such a person answering calls and providing customer service . Please review your employee and the call.

I ve had both my babies at Anna Jaques as well as two emergency room visits. I can t say enough about the birth center. The nursing staff is absolutely amazing and the care you receive overall is excellent. It is so quiet, it feels like you are the only one having a baby! I had to ask during both stays if anyone else had a baby that weekend because it was so quiet. The rooms are clean and have everything you need (all individual, no shared rooms). Dr. Wan was excellent during my most recent birth for my planned c section , happy to check if I was progressing naturally multiple times before doing the c section in case I wanted a VBAC (at my request). The midwife care is great as well and I ve loved my midwife s at women s health. Both of my emergency room visits were also good experiences - very quickly admitted and taken care of.

Hospitalist primary care doctor Dr. Michael Levitz for inpatient is the meanest rudest awful unsympathetic human I have come across. Please help yourself and anyone you love to stay clear of this Dr.Levitz. He lies does not explain anything introduces himself says what he wants and leaves and will keep you inpatient against your will. I am here now because I want to leave he said then I'm sectioning you now so you are staying. I am a 44 year old adult that has 100% to be a part of my medical plan and to have access to all my medical records. Do not come here.

Someone I care about was admitted to the psych ward here, and when I read the reviews I started to panic. There are a lot of scary things said about the hospital in this review section, and I am sorry that those people had those experiences, but I did not see anything like that. Yes, the food was mediocre and visiting hours were limited, but that is typical for any psychiatric facility. Staff seemed decent, and my loved one left unscathed. The program was not revolutionary, but they worked to stabilize those in crisis and ease them into a more comprehensive program. If you are reading this, I'm assuming you are being challenged by life right now. You are strong, and I truly believe that you/your loved one will be okay in this facility. Make sure to take care of yourself, you're doing the best you can and that is enough.

Gave birth here over a year ago and I still wake up terribly upset about the lack of informed consent and way they talked to/ treated me during my birthing experience. One nurse in particular really started our experience off in a negative way from the moment we got there.A few of the nurses were quite helpful and friendly and the housekeeper was lovely. However we had to verbally argue with some nurses for simple things, like using my own colostrum from the freezer, and my predetermined birthing choices (they ask you to fill out a form) were not acknowledged or respected. They are baby friendly and did follow the protocols of semi delayed cord clamping, chest to chest, and allowing me to breastfeed which is why we chose this hospital. If I had to go here again it d be worth hiring a doula to stand up for me and my bodily autonomy. Wish it didn t have to be that way.

Superb visit to the emergency room! They were so fast. I didn't even have my bracelet on and they were calling my name and caring for me. Thank you very much to all the staff and to nurse practitioner Taylor! Fabulous caring staff! Thank you very very much!
