The people seem pretty nice, I went there before and got 2 appointments. I missed 1 on accident and had to redo the paperwork. Fast forward to recently and I refilled it, after a few annoying calls I got the appointment. But I had to wait more than an hour multiple times I think, had to sign more stuff again plus get my pic took. Had the session just for them to tell me to go call a different number. I did and they told me to do the same exact thing asf. I had to make 3 or 4 different calls to different places just to be led back to this place .

Let me begin by saying this review isn t meant to dissuade those searching for help. The world hasn t been a nice place to us and unfortunately many of us are led into the hands of greed instead of genuine care and compassion. Let me assure you though, with a little research you can find a facility who wants to help you, this isn t the place though. Let me begin with the front desk staff; extremely unorganized and unprofessional, not all but about 80% of the front desk staff are not personable or enthusiastic in what they do nor are they able to answer many questions, I ve seen parents confused in tears talking to these women as to why they re being rescheduled again and again just to have hands waved at them and smirked at with a nasty attitude, then belittling them after they leave the building. Next are the therapists, absolutely zero passion from the two therapists I had, never prepared for intense one on one communication just the same promises of We re going to do this and that only for us to always talk about very basic concepts (that many of us already understand) with weeks in between visits. Then, there are the doctors. Dr Sinato, if you re reading this I d like you to know, I never in my life experienced such disdain for an individual who was able to claim a job in a field where people rely on being able to in the least, show human emotion. This man is a robot, he handles too many cases because he knows he doesn t have to look into anything beyond the scope of a few pages of reference before prescribing something to you that could completely destroy your mental and in return, face no consequences. For our telehealth appointments he would never be prepared and ask me to give him a few moments (which would turn into literally 20-30 minutes of me staring at the wall while he was on mute) this is extremely awkward, sitting in a tiny room with a computer, the lobby restroom to your right and front desk staff to your left laughing and cutting up. It feels as if there is no privacy and makes you uncomfortable. I would wait months for these appointments, MONTHS. Only to have a Dr ask me if I m depressed and do I know what depression is You need to go back to school Mr sinato or change fields, point blank. Anyways, I could rant all day, they don t care is what sums it all up though. Many of us go months without an appointment because of constant rescheduling. There was one day I was literally called 15 minutes before my appointment and told I couldn t be seen today because there were tornadoes in Alabama it s a rotating door and my advice would be to save your money because these services are not in any form free and now I m $7,400 in debt from them with absolutely nothing gained in return (except for a misdiagnosis which thankfully was reversed when I saw a proper psychiatrist and therapist)To parents who don t have many choices, I understand your dilemma but they in fact feed off of that dilemma, so do your best to contact local facilities and psychiatrists, AU could be a start. Take care everyone, It was a long arduous journey for me but I made it through and now no longer rely on debilitating medications to make it through my days, keep pushing and never give up, we re all in one and you re loved.

Accepted Insurance

Aiken – Barnwell Mental Health Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place is a joke. My regular Dr retired in December so they say. Nurse Amy made an appointment for me with the new Dr but she forgot to schedule it and I didn't have my medicine. They made an appointment with a nurse in North Augusta when I arrived the so called computers were down. I had to drive to Aiken to get a couple weeks of medication. They then made an appointment for me to see another nurse when I arrived for my 11:30 a.m . Appointment she did not come to work and this screwed up place didn't call me about her absence. I had to wait around most of the morning to be able to see another nurse so I could get 3 weeks worth of medication. They have scheduled me to see someone on September 12. It is all about the money. I would not recommend this facility or the one in North Augusta..

Absolutely terrible place. Listening is a fundamental skill which these people lack. You need to listen to your patients. How is this dump still open?
