About Aviary Recovery Center – Kirkwood

Aviary Recovery Center – Kirkwood is an outpatient rehab in Kirkwood, Missouri. Their intensive outpatient program provides compassionate care for adults fighting addiction and co-occurring disorders. You’ll benefit from a flexible, comprehensive program with care from seasoned professionals.

Whether you’re stepping down from residential care or starting your recovery journey, their program offers continuous support and encouragement. You’ll participate in 12 weeks of treatment with multiple three hour weekly sessions. Morning and evening sessions are available so you can maintain other responsibilities while fitting treatment into your schedule.

Their program focuses on helping you build essential recovery skills. Depending on your individualized treatment plan, you’ll participate in private, group, and individual therapy sessions. Each helps you foster coping and life skills, relapse prevention resiliency, addiction knowledge, and more. This can help you understand and address the underlying causes of addiction while gaining the tools to sustain recovery.

What stands out most to me is their emphasis on family support. They offer free, weekly family wellness sessions for you and your loved ones. You’ll have a safe, positive space to learn about safe communication techniques, setting boundaries, coping mechanisms, family dynamics, seeking support, and more. An Al-Anon meeting is also available. They understand that addiction doesn’t just affect the individual. These sessions can help your loved ones learn how to support you in your journey while caring for themselves.

Another standout feature is their focus on peer support. You can access support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous and positive peer groups. These sessions help you grow in recovery while connecting with others on similar paths. You’ll have a safe space to share your story and learn from the challenges and milestones of others.

Seems like this place is only out to make money off you and your insurance. When I received a discharge Summary they had listed on the form that I was going there for drug treatment. I was not, I reached out to them for alcohol help. They have a policy of no mind altering substances and I fully understand that and had no problem with it. They listed my discharge paperwork, the reason why I left the program early was because I refused to quit Marijuana. This is absolutely not the reason. I left early because no group meetings were planned out, they seem to just wing it on a different topic every day.Ron, one of the group facilitators was very full of himself, talked politics and other non related topics to recovery while waiting for the group to start. He also has the mindset that his way was the only way to recover and people trying their own way would always fail. He even brought it up in a meeting. When starting the program you are given little to no introduction on what to expect or how things will be or planned out.Just be aware they believe that God or a Higher Power is necessary for recovery. Sure I could see the Higher Power as a good way to open your mind, look at things a different way, learn to surrender and accept things but you probably shouldn t make someone go write a line of a PRAYER on the white board.

If you are looking for something other than 12 step AA/NA based recovery I would avoid the Aviary IOP. Group therapy sessions did not seem to be planned out ahead of time. There was little to no agenda. They appeared to be short staffed. I regret spending money on this program.

As a former client I have to say Aviary was a life changing experience. The staff really cared for us and was always willing to help. I learned so much from them. Addiction is a killer. I m so happy and grateful for my experience there. I m still sober and living my best life in recovery. I would recommend the Aviary to anyone.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment gives those suffering from substance abuse disorders a safe space to focus on beginning their path to recovery. Clients stay at the facility full time, receiving 24/7 care from experienced addiction and mental health professionals in a therapeutically designed environment. Young adult residential treatment at The Aviary Recovery Center offers men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 a chance to overcome their substance abuse struggles, as well as any co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or eating disorders. Young adult residential treatment provides structured around-the-clock care designed around a six-week timeframe.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The Intensive Outpatient Program is offered for patients who can manage many aspects of their life without round the clock monitoring, inpatient medical detox for alcohol and drugs, or who may have completed a residential treatment stay. The program schedule allows for one to attend college, manage their work schedule and maintain their family life, while receiving treatment and support necessary for long-term recovery. At The Aviary, IOP treatment is designed to attend 3 to 5 times a week for 3 hours each session with a licensed mental health professional.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer continuing care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are designed to evolve over time. Outpatient treatment is generally categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive services after being discharged from formal care. These services are customized to clients' unique recovery goals, but typically include medical, mental health, and social services. Clients' case manager and recovery team play a key role in developing the client's care plan.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Missouri usually involves several phases: detox, rehab, and aftercare. The rehab phase may include a combination of inpatient and outpatient treatments, as the individual moves through a continuum of care on their recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Missouri deals with the problems each partner has within themselves and with each other. Sessions may be held jointly and others individually to address these issues and help each partner learn how to manage challenges in healthy ways.

The Family Wellness Program allows for family members to become engaged in the process of helping and supporting their loved one. At The Aviary, they take the opportunity to create an experience that is safe, supportive, educational and positive for the family and loved ones of the alcoholic or addict. They take the time to provide education about communication, accountability and support groups.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The only thing good about this place is the nurses on staff and the coaches. This place had me so doped up I didn t know left to right. Not the nurses. Let say if you want to get of 3Prescription medication s and wanna be on another 11 prescription medication s it s a number one place you want to go other than that the nurse practitioner and the doctor need more training to deal with people as it like me I didn t care to check on me I could ve died in that place and they didn t. They wouldn t even know it s pretty sad I m talking about the doctor and the nurse practitioner foods not good the horses you can t ride don t get excited about the horses and you can t ride them. Worst facility have ever detox out of my life.
