Spectrum Health Systems - Lincoln Street

About Spectrum Health Systems, Inc.

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. in Worcester, MA, is LegitScript certified to provide addiction treatment to adults. So, those looking for help with overcoming drug or alcohol addiction can get the care they need at this center if what they need is help with medication management, outpatient counseling, or partner abuse education.

The unique, intimate partner abuse education program is specifically tailored to men. This program requires men to attend two-hour sessions over 40 weeks. During these classes, they learn to be better partners and identify and avoid violent and controlling behaviors. They learn this while receiving treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

For men and women, another standout program at this facility is the medication management program offered in an outpatient setting. If you enroll in this program, you can expect to receive medications like Suboxone and Vivitrol. These help with managing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. During this program, you’ll also undergo physical exams and routine toxicology testing to ensure you remain on the path to sobriety and you’ll participate in weekly counseling.

If you don’t need medication assistance, you can still receive outpatient counseling at this center. Outpatient treatment is offered to individuals, groups, and families. You’ll learn the skills needed to maintain active recovery when enrolled in this program. You’ll also work with a professional to create a custom tailored drug or alcohol treatment plan that meets your exact substance abuse treatment needs.

However, you should know that the outpatient program requires a commitment of at least three weeks. So, if you’re not ready to dedicate your time to attending group and individual therapy sessions, you should consider a different level of care. The personnel at the center can help you determine the level that best suits your needs.

Accepted Insurance

Spectrum Health Systems, Inc. works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Spectrum's outpatient counseling program serves adults and adolescents with substance abuse and/or mental health issues at various stages of recovery. Upon admission, a comprehensive intake evaluation is completed and used to develop an individualized treatment plan for each client. Based upon this plan, services are provided to address individual needs and teach clients the skills needed for recovery. They also work closely with family members, educating them about addiction and supporting their involvement in the recovery process, as appropriate. In addition, Spectrum's outpatient treatment centers provide a range of mental health services, including clinical assessment, treatment planning, counseling, and medication management.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Title: Exceptional Care and Support During Challenging TimesI recently had the privilege of experiencing the exemplary service provided by Spectrum Medical during a particularly challenging period of illness. From the moment I initiated contact, their intake process demonstrated efficiency and compassion, alleviating much of the stress associated with seeking medical assistance while unwell. In particular, Brooke, a member of their team, exhibited an exceptional level of professionalism, attentiveness, and support throughout our interactions. Her dedication to ensuring my needs were met was evident, as she promptly scheduled appointments and provided invaluable assistance with navigating MA insurance, easing the burden of administrative tasks during a time of vulnerability. For individuals grappling with dependency issues, I wholeheartedly recommend Spectrum and their outstanding team.Their commitment to excellence in care, coupled with a compassionate approach, undoubtedly makes them a beacon of hope for those in need of support and guidance during challenging times. With love and respect I.D

Spectrum Health simply put, saved my life. If you or a loved one has a problem with addiction(s) please contact Spectrum Health ASAP. I am very proud to be a client and am very happy to share that info publicly. They saved my life and gave it back to me. I only wish I had started sooner than I had.I was reticent to start because of all the online negativity over methadone/suboxone. Online fear mongering had led me to be afraid to try methadone and a program. Instead I have a life now second to none. All of the services provided at Spectrum are designed to fit each client specifically. Please, if you are on the fence, or would just like to change your life and quit using substances, call Spectrum as soon as you can.

Spectrum Health Services has been accused of using illegal contingency management practices that have led to the involuntary dismissal of a disabled patient. The patient complained about special passes that allowed other patients to advance in line and receive medication before patients waiting in line, sometimes in excess of 30 minutes. This remonstrance will explore the illegal and unethical practices of Spectrum Health Services and highlight how contingency management is used ethically by other clinics. Additionally, the complaint will quote specific Massachusetts and federal statutes pertaining to continuity of care and discrimination and analyze the dangers a disabled patient faced because of Spectrum Health Services' unethical, discriminatory and illegal practices.Contingency Management Practices at Spectrum Health ServicesContingency management is a behavior modification strategy used in healthcare settings to incentivize patients to engage in positive behaviors. It involves rewarding patients for adhering to treatment plans and other positive behaviors, such as attending appointments, taking medications, and abstaining from substance abuse. However, when contingency management practices are used inappropriately, they can lead to unethical and illegal practices.Spectrum Health Services has been accused of using contingency management practices to discriminate against disabled patients. Specifically, the patient was dismissed for complaining about special passes that allowed other patients to advance in line and receive medication before patients waiting in line for sometimes up to 30 minutes. This practice is a clear violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination against disabled individuals in public accommodations, including hospitals and clinics.Continuity of Care and Discrimination StatutesSpectrum Health Services' actions violate several Massachusetts and federal statutes pertaining to continuity of care and discrimination. According to Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 111, Section 70E, healthcare providers are required to provide "appropriate and timely transfer of a patient to another healthcare provider or facility in a manner that ensures continuity of care." Additionally, the law states that "no patient shall be discharged or transferred from any facility...without prior notice to the patient or legal representative."Furthermore, the ADA prohibits discrimination against disabled individuals in public accommodations, including hospitals and clinics. Under the ADA, disabled individuals are entitled to "full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations of any place of public accommodation." Discrimination can take many forms, including "the imposition or application of eligibility criteria that screen out or tend to screen out an individual with a disability or any class of individuals with disabilities from fully and equally enjoying any goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations.Dangers Faced by a Disabled PatientSpectrum Health Services' unethical and illegal practices put the disabled patient at risk. The patient was dismissed from the clinic without prior notice, which is a clear violation of Massachusetts General Law. Additionally, the patient was denied access to necessary medication and treatment, which could have serious health consequences. Furthermore, the patient was subjected to discriminatory practices, which can have a negative impact on the patient's physical and mental health.Ethical Use of Contingency ManagementContingency management practices can be used ethically in healthcare settings to incentivize positive behaviors and improve patient outcomes. For example, some clinics use contingency management to incentivize patients to attend appointments, take medications, and abstain from substance abuse. These practices are designed to improve patient outcomes and promote positive health behaviors!Signed,Jay Malone
