The adult and senior inpatient program has individual, family and group therapy. The sessions are run by a case management team that can include therapists and social workers. There’s also medication management services if you need help controlling your withdrawal pains. Detox may be available, which can include Suboxone, Vivitrol, and methadone to help prevent relapses. inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Due to various health issues that substance abuse causes, 24-hour clinical care in Massachusetts is often a necessary part of treatment. Individuals may be suffering from infections, illness, or organ damage. Having 24-hour care available ensures that these physical problems are treated along with the psychological effects of addiction. Once individuals complete detox and are medically stable, this intensive level of supervision ends, and the next phase of treatment can begin.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Medically supervised detox is the process of removing addictive substances from your body and managing the withdrawal symptoms in a medically supervised environment. Typically, this is the first step in the recovery process and lasts an average of 5-7 days, though the length can vary depending on your individual needs. Once your system is cleared of alcohol and drugs, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. Individuals at the group therapy attend a minimum of five groups per day.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. The individual therapy is individualized depending on the individual needs.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses the psychological impact of experiencing a traumatic event. You can also experience mental and emotional injury after witnessing a trauma. By identifying what triggers those responses and developing effective coping mechanisms, you can rebuild a sense of safety and trust in your environment.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Horrible there was no communication from the primary doctor. He would not return calls and would not give his patient information he repeatedly asked for. There were several requests by his patient to contact me his legal guardian and still no response. I found this very incompetent on the Dr's part. I will add his name later when I get it off the discharge sheet. I have trouble understanding how an administration could allow this type of behavior from their senior staff. I tried several times to get in touch with them also with no response. I'm working now with an attorney and filling a complaint with the Attorney General's Office. You are only allowed to visit for 1 hour once a week. You drive 90 minutes toget there arive 30 min early as it's stated and they don't bring the person visiting until as late as 40 into the visit leaving only a 20 min visit. Patients in those settings need their outside contact in order to progress. It's a terrible place and they are treated more like inmates than Patients. When you visit finally arrives it's in a cafeteria where they have to sit across the table from you much like a jail or prison setting. The pictures look nice but are very deceiving beware of this institution.I do commend those who work the front desk. They do an excellent job and are looked down upon by this particular doctor and administration. If you have a lived one who really needs help please don't subject them to this place.Just got the Dr's Name Dr Rader very very unprofessional ignores his patients and doesn't respond to those he required to by law. I can't believe a hospital would employ someone like that.

Some staff are good, most dont care, others just dont want to work. Ive been twice on section 12, thankfully I made it out, because they will petition their in house court. Be careful if you go here. If I could give it no stars, I would. Then they will respond saying my review is "disheartening" - as if my stay wasnt. A big middle finger to them.**Update 8/20/24 - see the response from this place; I did what they asked and never heard a thing back.**

Never met such rude and unprofessional staff for a healthcare facility. Working in healthcare myself, I am very aware of HIPPA & policies-however, the disregard and unwillingness to help someone is a common practice here. Today, I spoke with a nurse on unit 3-(Lisa) who was extremely cold, lacked sympathy and made it very clear I was a bother. This nurse couldn t get me off the phone fast enough and with me being the one who had to section my immediate family member, feeling her apathy and not wanting to hear what I had to say about having guardianship really is disheartening. This is my second experience with this facility, sadly when someone is on a section 12 you do not have a choice of facilities and I am very aware of that but if you can advocate to avoid this facility in any other circumstances, I HIGHLY advise you to. If they are treating loved ones like this, I can only imagine how they treat their patients with their lack of sympathy, empathy and blatant lack of caring.

Having a good friend depend, at their most vulnerable, on a judgemental, abusive, incompetent staff, while being coerced and subject to the same by a belligerent Psychiatrist made me question, besides defrauding insurance, what is the point of hospitalizing a person?

The "groups" were often canceled or substituted with visits to the gym. Few were led by actual clinicians and while I was there (three separate stays) none dealt with relevant issues like anxiety or depression. They screwed up my meds which led to me being denied half of my diabetes medication (1000mg per day instead of 2000). My sister had to threaten a lawsuit before it was corrected because nobody was responding to me. This place is little more than a warehouse and med adjusting center.

If I could give this place a 0 star out of 5 I would, SouthCoast Behavioral health is an absolute joke. Not only did they merely provide only 1-2 groups a DAY. My loved one only met their Dr. the day BEFORE they discharged. They signed a 3 day on a Tuesday but the first day didn t count so it was then pushed to Friday, except Friday wouldn t count either so it was once again pushed another day. But NO hospital ever discharges on a weekend, so it was then pushed to Monday. However another staff member at this hospital tried to suggest it would be pushed to Tuesday because Monday wouldn t count , and this was said to my loved one until family and I stepped in. Please don t let your loved ones get sent here, learn from our mistakes. They weren t able to search their clothes and personal belongings until their 3rd morning there because they were understaffed every healthcare facility is understaffed, but but not every hospital fills themselves to the max and abuses and neglects those who rely on them the most. To top it all off this facility has been giving me the run around for OVER A WEEK trying to explain why my loved one was not sent home with their personal belongings. My loved one was never informed what I brought, so when asked if they had everything they said I think so and signed. I am going to keep pushing until they explain how an entire bag of bag of personal belongings disappeared . must have just gotten up and walked off!I am absolutely disgusted with the joke that is southcoast behavioral health, with no thanks so Dr. Rader. Coming from someone who works in healthcare administation (client care admin and documentation) This place needs to be investigated into, and shut down before anyone else is hurt by this lack of management, staff, empathy, and overall proper medical training. I am contacting everyone possible let them know this. If you or a loved one has been there before, I am so sorry.

Horrible facility. A loved one of mine was placed here due to having anxiety and depression issues. This individual has chronic health problems on top of this. They checked themself into here and they neglected their physical health. They only care about you from the neck up, or should I say from the wallet to the insurance card.
