Riverwalk Recovery Center

About Riverwalk Recovery Center

Riverwalk Recovery Center is accredited by The Joint Commission as a mental health and drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility. They’re out in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Adults can participate in outpatient detox, intensive outpatient programs (IOP), and general outpatient programs (OP) at this location. They are an evidence based treatment drug rehab program.

Outpatient detox doesn’t require long term admittance into a hospital or treatment program. Instead, clients receive long lasting medication to help them manage symptoms while they detox and carry on with their lives. This kind of detox may not be appropriate for clients with severe symptoms, however, and such clients may be referred to another program for detox.

PHP is the most intensive level of outpatient care, where clients spend most of the day at the facility in treatment before returning home at night. Clients may qualify to stay at a partnered residence while in this program, making it easier to travel to and from treatment. Services may include individual and group therapy, education groups, family and trauma therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

There are also holistic approaches. II also love that they offer adventure therapy. You can participate in team based games, hiking, and water recreation. These activities help you gain confidence, strengthen relationships, and learn to have sober fun. Finally, they offer the 12 Steps for peer support.

IOP is a step down from PHP. It utilizes the same treatment methods while shifting the focus onto community reintegration. As with PHP, clients in IOP can stay at a partnered sober living home for program duration.

Riverwalk Recovery Center works with many private insurance plans. These may include Humana, Cigna, HCSC, TRICARE, BlueCross BlueShield, and others. Clients should confirm coverage with their plan, since out of network benefits may vary.

While most was good about my experience it is a cultural shock as well. Not quite as it shows but if you make the most out of the program it is worth it. While the planned trips are not always the best and should be organized not just going somewhere and sitting there. Also I u destined that this is part of the network however I feel that it would have been great to do things with just the Riverwalk people and not always having to work with the other building. Housing is what you make of it. While we have issues and reasons for being there in all truth if you make it a bad place then it is a bad place. The staff worked great to help those there and were great about protecting each client while there. While I was only there for PHP program they really cared about those in IOP as well and tried to help them as long as they we were willing to work the program and try. Yes things happen but they were always handled and dealt with quickly and efficiently. George (tech) was great. And the 2nd shift , Jarred, Mike, Melina, Steve, Mama Jennifer always made the evenings better after getting back from clinical. For having all the clients from both facilities in housing and all the difference the 2nd shift was really able to keep a good handle on things with 30+ clients there. Not an easy task considering meds and house checks but they were great. It also helped me when there that we had a good sense of community and would do a lot of family meals outside since we couldn t mix the women and men into other houses. It is treatment after all and so there are rules but it isn t like you are watched 24/7. There not cameras in the rooms nor main rooms of the house so it is private however the techs are always checking every 15 minutes. But where there is a will there is a way I will say. Several left due to the fact that they were doing things or trying to that were not acceptable. So remember they are human too and while they want to support everyone some times it isn t enough. You have to be willing to accept the help and open to changes. That is one great this this program taught me. I still talk to quite a few of those meet in treatment and we have our own support group outside now. While we really wish that we could talk with some of the staff and let them know how we are doing the corporation does make it hard for us to give feed back to them, which after being with some of the members for over a month is hard because you know they truly care and you want them to know that you are doing well that they helped you. Overall I spent 60 days in the Harmony Oaks programs between a residential program and the PHP program. some are life time connections others were passing ships but a huge impact while going through the program.

The quality of the facility was decent enough; however the billing and communication is atrocious. I have been trying to call someone regarding bills received despite paying $6228 while in treatment. These payments are not reflected on my bills so I m concerned about fraud or the payments being made to another patients Acct. I cannot get anyone to answer me or call me back about this. Red flag for sure.

Accepted Insurance

Riverwalk Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Tennessee, also known as a halfway house, refers to a group residence for men or women who are recovering from addiction. These are usually privately owned homes or houses owned by a nonprofit or business. Most are located in quiet residential areas. Residents have their own rooms or share a room with one roommate, and they share common areas. Each resident pays rent and helps with household maintenance.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Typical cognitive behavioral therapy in Tennessee involves recognizing negative thinking and learning techniques to change that thinking and create new, positive behaviors. Strategies may include SMART goals, journaling, and situation exposure.

In Tennessee, group therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction typically involve skill development to help you learn communication techniques and relapse prevention strategies. These strategies support your transition into the community and help you maintain long term sobriety.

Men and women in Tennessee undergoing one on one individual therapy sessions focus on understanding their unique needs and challenges. They do this under the guidance of an experienced therapist who can help you identify and address addiction triggers as well as create personalized relapse prevention plans. This offers you a customized path to a successful recovery journey.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Family therapy uses a structured environment to address the complexities of addiction and the negative influences it has on the family unit. Therapists work with family members to develop effective coping and communication strategies that support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on the health and well being of each family member.

This place is an utter joke of a facility. The facilitators on average do not adequately or effectively facilitate healthy or productive group therapies. Often times they let a single individual speak for the entirety of group and do not stick to any guidelines or group norms. In addition, the group therapy topics are often redundant or completely irrelevant towards recovery goals. On my first day there, a behavioral tech facilitated a group with no therapeutic background. Another facilitator was incredibly condescending and treated us all like children, having us do menial tasks that were demoralizing and frustrating. In addition to the group therapy being wholly ineffective, the techs were unkind often. On arrival, I had a tech be incredibly rude and judgmental towards me within my 20 minutes of being there. The food that they had "catered" was raw or inedible most of the days I was there. The website as well as the admission staff had completely lead me astray as I thought I would have more freedoms and one on one with my therapist, as well as a more tailored approach towards therapy. Alas, that was not the case at all. I never saw a psychiatrist while there to assess me in any form. It took me 4 days to see a nurse practitioner that does not have a specific background in mental health. The plan only allowed us to see our therapists once a week. I also ended up getting a bad upper respiratory infection and they gave me "Imodium" for it. I had to leave earlier due to a PTO issue, and they held on to all my belongings for an entire week before I got them back. They don't inform you up front of the fact that you have no phone calls on arrival for your first 5 days in the facility. They also don't tell you that if you have to leave earlier than what you committed to, they hold your items for 72 hours after you leave. In my case, they held them past that point and had to call many times for them to send them back. I, as many others, were completely and utterly disappointed by our time there. It was a waste and I wish I hadn't felt so misled by the admission staff as well as their generic website that has many promises, but completely falls flat. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. Steer clear.

Hi Victoria, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I am going to circle back with the team to discuss your feedback. While we work with a dynamic curriculum, clients come to us at different stages, some just starting out and others that have been in the treatment circle multiple times. I apologize if anything came off as redundant. We strive to really reinforce the core fundamentals which are both important, but to your point can be repetitive. I apologize that you felt your time with us was not productive. I do appreciate you taking the time to send us your thoughts so we can internally discuss. We are always striving to deliver the best quality of care and continue to grow. If you d like to continue the conversation or need additional support feel free to email me at: mzinsser@harmonyrecoverygroup.com

Riverwalk recovery center has nice housing for php clients. When weather permits we are taken to a park in the evening. It s a great park for walking & basketball. The food at Riverwalk is not the best. The staff is very helpful. The case manager Abi B. Is very friendly and helpful. Lance Carter a tech is helpful gets us to clinic and picks up personal supplies when needed.
