About Pinnacle Peak Recovery – Drug & Alcohol Rehab Scottsdale

Pinnacle Peak Recovery is a Joint Commission accredited alcohol and substance use rehab facility. They also offer comprehensive mental health treatment for co-occurring disorders. They’re located in Scottsdale, Arizona, in a desert area known for its beauty. They have both inpatient and outpatient programs.

They accept an extensive list of insurance providers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, Allegiance and ComPsych. They also accept TRICARE. They offer discounted self pay if you don’t have insurance.

The initial step is detoxification, where you’ll be medically supervised as you rid your body of any toxic substances, such as drugs or alcohol. You’ll have care available 24/7 during the detox phase. If appropriate, you’ll have medications to assist you through the process.

After inpatient detox, you’ll start cognitive behavioral therapy with a master’s level therapist. You may also have dialectical behavior therapy. The center has a special track for veterans and first responders or others dealing with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They use ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) to help you replace traumatic memories with more positive or neutral memories. This helps reduce the emotional impact that your negative memories are having on you.

Therapy will help you unearth any trauma or other issues in your past that may have been the triggers that led you to rely on substances as a primary coping mechanism. By understanding your triggers, you’ll learn ways of coping that avoid the use of substances.

The center also offers an outpatient program if you need support after inpatient treatment or if you don’t need the intensity of the inpatient program. The outpatient program offers individual, group, experiential and trauma therapy. There’s also family and couples therapy. They also offer holistic services such as yoga, Reiki, meditation and acupuncture.

Former clients have a lot of good things to say about the program, including how compassionate and warm the staff is. One client said the holistic approach was notable in how it focused on your overall health and personal growth and taught healthy coping mechanisms while improving self esteem.

I should have gone with my gut.It is unusual for a program to have over one hundred 5-star reviews. The complexity of recovery and where a family or client may be on that journey would logically lead to a spectrum of feedback. Our family has been on a long journey, with more than two dozen programs over a decade. Substance use dependence has been effectively managed for over two years, but severe mental illness has been uncovered. PP was not the ideal, but a reasonable option. I raised concerns at the onset about their mental health capabilities and was reassured big mistake. "Duel diagnosis" is simply a term. Moreover, communication at every stage, from when my family member arrived to when he exited, was absolutely substandard. It was inexcusable and frankly dangerous. Further, they conveyed information to the next program that was dishonest- I know this because I followed up with the physician and reviewed the discharge notes(which they indicated were entirely different) PP will respond claiming safety under the HIPPA umbrella, and their is no one more conscious of my family member's health information, their rights, and their dignity. Without writing a book, there were at least six critical communication errors made by four members of staff that would have improved and possibly redirected my family member. Instead, we heard from our family member "in treatment" when he called from a grocery store; this was within 20 minutes of the voicemail that he was being discharged. Medication, plans, and recommendations after the fact are non-existent. Not a single returned call or response to several voicemails. There is no excuse for this level of disregard; their primary concern is money, which is likely the source of so many glowing reviews. If you can't deliver on the basics, it seems unlikely you can be a dazzling program.UPDATE- In regard to the response below- reaching out for further conversation, that an absolutely empty statement. I have left 5 messages for various "leaders" and have not received a single phone call back. And, my family memeber was found without discharge paperwork nor medication. These are not resposible actions. I strongly recommend that readers consider the abundance of "fabulous" best experience of my life reviews. Not logical or practical in this industry. Period.

Allyson, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet the expectations you had for our program. Our team is dedicated to high standards of care in addiction, trauma, and mental health, using a dual-diagnosis model to support clients with both substance use and mental health needs. Regarding communication, without a signed Release of Information (ROI), HIPAA regulations prevents us from returning calls or providing treatment updates directly to family members. We understand this can be challenging, but it is essential for client privacy. We also prioritize comprehensive discharge planning and ensure that information shared with future providers is clinically accurate and relevant. Lastly, we are grateful for feedback from our clients and their families, which reflects the work we put into individualized care and support. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to reach out directly.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

We thought this was going to be the place where my son would be able to thrive. He went through the detox and then entered the 30 day residential program. He then moved into the PHP and sober living environment. He seemed to be doing very well and the structure was good for him. Things had taken place and the rumor mill took over and circulated around my son. Every time he called and spoke to me about the things taking place I would tell him to speak to his case manager, management and his therapist to report the things that were happening. A few things that were absolutely outrageous was the fact that my son had to carry his toothbrush with him because when he had originally arrived someone decided to take his toothbrush and use the bristles to clean their rectum. Luckily, before he went to brush his teeth again- he could smell feces on his toothbrush before putting it in his mouth! Other patients were trying to label him a gang member (which he has ZERO gang affiliation) which then he was subsequently written up for because of the rumors being spread. Yes, he has a tattered past but almost EVERY patient in there does in varying degrees. He was homeless and had to face many things that most couldn t imagine. He had done very well in the program until he chose to trust some of the phase 2 patients. They were allowing the phase 2 patients to hang out with the phase 1 s offsite and unattended leading to blame being cast directly on my son. They allowed the patient who actually used to stay and re-entered them into the residential program and ultimately discharged my son and sent him right back to the devils den in Mesa saying they were transferring him to another facility. They did not set him up with another program that was comparable to the one he was in, they did not care that they returned him to homelessness, they did not care that they were throwing him back to the wolves knowing full well what the chances of relapse and death are after having been in a very structured setting. Overall, I do believe there were very huge medical malpractices that took place being as they have harmed him medically and did not seem interested in helping resolve the issues appropriately. I know there are some within the facility staff that agree with what took place with my son was egregiously wrong but because no one in charge actually stepped in to find out the truth-they went on rumors and discharged my son to avoid having to do any real work to investigate the issues that he reported. Many patients here are on a revolving door policy in which they can return multiple times without qualm. For the patients that don t have the financial backing to support that are discharged if the regulars have issues with them. I was hopeful when my son made the decision to enter rehab but now he s worse off because this isn t the only rehab guilty of having a regular clientele. So, how well does the program actually work if people are regularly returning? Depending on the substance you ve become addicted to will determine the outcome of your stay here I suppose. I m frustrated and very disappointed in the way things were handled within the facility. I still hope that my son will try and trust another facility again but it s shameful and medically concerning that this even takes place.

I recommended Pinnacle Peak for a friend whose brother was struggling with addiction. It wasn t his brother s first rodeo. My friends brother had nothing but great things to report regarding his experience at Pinnacle Peak Recovery. He said the staff made him feel valued, they were very knowledgeable, and help him figure out how to launch into a solid recovery journey. His brother is now over a year sober and living his best life thanks to Pinnacle Peak!

Excellent! They really focused on what I asked to get out of rehab which was, Why do I drink? Why to I use alcohol to avoid my life? How do I fix this? Other treatment facilities focus on what alcohol does to your organs and brain. Pinnacle Peak focused on what was going on with ME! I feel like I FINALLY understand and can move forward with living my life instead of drinking to hide from it.
