I completely agree with everyone that's mentioned that being at this hospital was the worst moment of their lives, because it was by far the worst experience I've ever been though in my live & I'm 53yrs old, I constantly see the owner responding to the comments to make things better, however the owner isn't doing anything to improve his facility because it keeps receiving negative comments, my 1st night there, they drugged up my roommate so bad he was sleeping a lot so when I walked into my room i didn't turn on the light because I didn't want to wake him up & just went to bed. In the morning when there was light in the room and I could see, I noticed that I was unknowingly sleeping in someone else (Soiled Sheets, & Even the Blanket was Soiled also, in many spots) I was to say the least very upset at this extremely "Gross Negligence" of the staff preparing a bed with obvious soiled sheets & blankets that I slept in all night, which certainly warrants a law suite which is maybe what they need to get their shit together & treat people there with respect. The counselor had so much makeup on I thought she was there for a party dressed and made up like a clown, then i thought perhaps she was one of the patents there & when i found out she was the counselor I thought they were joking, I was prevented from receiving some of my medications for several days because they mentioned I wasn't on the Massachusetts database for that medication, turns out when they were checking, they were incorrectly spelling my name, which was the reason as to why my data was not showing up on the Massachusetts data base, so in the meantime I was suffering & having withdrawals because of the lack of my medication just because they could not spell my name correctly. My safety was threatened twice, I latterly left that place worse than I arrived, I was there in may of 2022, they even F..cked up my paperwork telling me that I needed to stay there extra days, it was a good think that my doctor got me out. Because I felt like shooting myself in the head when I was there. The experience was so bad, it's been over two years since I've been there & I'm still suffering from PTSD from that entire experience, it's like being in a horror movie......

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are offered for patients as part of the treatment continuum. These programs offer a safe, structured environment while enabling the patient to return home at night and maintain important family and community relationships. Partial hospitalization may be appropriate for patients making the transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment or as a program alternative for patients who do not present any danger to themselves or others but need a structured treatment plan and environment.
inpatient iconInpatient
The adult inpatient psychiatric services provide short-term admission for intensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment to stabilize individuals in crisis. While hospitalized, patients will work with a multi-disciplinary team headed by a psychiatrist who will design and implement an individualized treatment plan, including 24-hour nursing care, psychopharmacological interventions and a full range of psychosocial interventions. Treatment may involve psychological and behavioral components, medication management, family education and participation in group therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
As part of the continuum of care at Arbour Health System, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are offered for adult patients whose psychiatric and/or substance dependence symptoms are impeding their ability to function interpersonally and professionally, but do not require the intensity of partial hospitalization level of care.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP), also known as day treatment, allows you to receive rehab-level care while living at home. PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours of treatment each week for an average of 90 days. PHP treatment plans can vary depending on your needs but typically includes relapse prevention, medication management, and evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Most insurance providers fully or partially cover PHP treatment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Dual Diagnosis services offer a managed continuum of care designed to provide a comprehensive system of treatment and recovery from co-occurring psychiatric and substance disorders. Co-occurring psychiatric and substance disorders are treated simultaneously with a clear recognition that stabilization/arresting of the addiction is the most immediate concern upon the patient’s entering treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

During family therapy, the therapist works with every member of the family unit to understand the role they play in their loved one's addiction. By addressing these patterns, family members learn healthier ways to interact with each other and contribute to a more effective recovery journey for the family member who is addicted.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

My husband was there and this has been the worst hospital and experience that he has ever been in he was physically assaulted by another patient as he was walking down the stairs to go to lunch then another patient decided to play Hero and threatened to slice his throat due to the fact that some girl was accusing him of stealing her pajama pants I specifically had brought in his things his Nike Air Max sneakers went missing they lost his wedding band they also decided to give away the candy that I gave to him to some girl who was having a diabetic reaction without even asking him or replacing it and the best part his roommate decided to go through his things and just called me at 6:30 this morning asking for Pembroke Hospital and some social worker his social worker never contacted me to ask about his history or his background and anything to do with his Aftercare planning he says that it is being run by a bunch of young people who have no idea what they're doing there was nothing to drink up on the floor the other day for almost 3 hours while the staff members are sitting in the office talking they hold no groups you're supposed to go to the hospital to get help not to come out worse off I was reading the reviews when I found out he went there and I was 50/50 on the place but now after my husband being there for a week and a half this is a disgrace of a hospital something needs to be done about it because you're dealing with very sick people and they could care less they're basically trying to get them in and out as soon as possible well you know what it's a liability when something happens or somebody dies which I've also seen lawsuits in malpractice suits this place needs to be closed down another thing everybody else was able to wear their jewelry with their religious factors and I had bought him a chain with a cross on it and they refused to give it to him then he was being discharged and they could not accommodate him with a ride even after all of these things have transpired this is an absolute disgrace and people wonder why people don't get the help they need because all people care about is either getting paid or not doing their job I have been with this man for 13 years and been into other hospitals and I have never experienced anything like it before I had brought him into Beth Israel emergency room and due to the fact that he had a minor incident they happened to lose his items for 3 days he was transported to the hospital was absolutely nothing no clothes no cosmetics I don't understand how people get away with these things.A&B on bulshit now due to the fact that my husband contacted them to be reimbursed for the wedding band that I bought him that was lost and they're basically now telling me that they need a receipt in order to reimburse us do they really expect me to have a receipt after 13 years I am beyond disgusted and frustrated because why would I hold on to her a receipt after 13 years this is atrocious they're the ones who lost his jewelry and now basically I'm being told that they will not reimburse us due to the fact of not having a receipt and now they want me to click on their links so that they can personally contact me I'm letting you know now if you have a loved one and they are sent to Pembroke Hospital get them out of there as soon as possible they have children running the floors who have no idea what they're doing my husband has been in numerous hospitals and this has been the most dramatic and worst experience he has ever been through I have never had to deal with such ignorant and incompetent people I'm telling you now if you have a loved one that is sent to get them out of there because the reviews that people are leaving I was giving them the benefit of the doubt after reading them when my husband first got there but I do feel and understand where the people are coming from when they say that they are worse off when they left South 2 is the most violent thing that they have somebody needs to do something about this this place they should not be allowed to care four people

i was here and hated it the staff didn t seem to care about the kids in here at all and told me i d be there for only 5 days and they kept me for 7.even though i attended all the groups and was respectful and i had gotten better there was no need to keep me for 7 days. The only pleasant thing about this experience were some of the other kids who were also in there with me.Also when my mom brought me stuff it took them days to go through it when there would be only three things in the bag there s no reason that should take days to check. This place was just dehumanizing over all. Also timmy would always try and force me to eat when i never felt good or hungry they also gave me meds but never told me what it was. When they took my blood i started feeling dizzy and started to almost fall out of the chair and the woman taking my blood yelled at me and was like sit up.They also didn t do it right because it left a huge bruise that was very painful and lasted a week.
