About Olympia House Rehab

Olympia House is in Petaluma, California. It’s a residential and outpatient rehab for folks with alcohol and substance addictions. They’ll enroll you in detox, medication assisted treatment, and counseling, depending on your needs.

Let’s start with detox. Medical detox consists of receiving meds to help make your withdrawal symptoms less severe. This can include buprenorphine and methadone. Don’t worry about overdosing, since you’ll be monitored throughout the entire process. By controlling your cravings, your detox will be as comfortable as possible. In addition, you’ll also be given counseling sessions to start your recovery.

Once you finish detox and start your long term recovery, there’ll be a lot of counseling and deep reflection. Not only will they help you kick your bad habits, they’ll get you to analyze your motivations for substance use. That way, you can form healthier outlets for your triggers. When you enter the residential program, you can do yoga, gardening, and care for farm animals. You can also participate in 12 Step groups or get help with your marriage and other relationships. The facility has 32 beds, so there’s a close group of peers to help you strengthen your recovery. You look out for them, and they’ll do the same for you.

The outpatient program meets three times per week, from 9am to noon. Here, you’ll continue your recovery but have more flexibility to recover at home with family and your community. You’ll work on life skills so that your daily routines will be healthier and you won’t need to rely on substances anymore.

Accepted Insurance

Olympia House Rehab works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
The Olympia House Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers outpatient rehabilitation services for adults with substance abuse problems. With a focus on wellness and recovery in all aspects of one’s life, Olympia House IOP is able to support people in their journey to sobriety. The program is designed to be completed over eight weeks, depending on individual needs and insurance requirements. It includes 9 hours of group counseling and 1 hour of individual counseling per week, random drug and alcohol testing, and monthly family support meetings.
inpatient iconInpatient Rehab
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare
12-step icon12-Step
Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Environments (SLE) offer stable, clean and sober housing to adults with a substance use disorder. Individuals in early recovery face a variety of issues as they begin to create a clean and sober life. The sober living environments provide a clean, safe environment, free from alcohol and drugs, where residents can focus on the transition from a structured treatment center environment to a more independent and self-motivated, recovery-based lifestyle engaged with the outside community. Unlike treatment centers, the sober living environments do not provide treatment or professional services. Instead, they provide a primarily peer-lead structure to assist individuals in regaining independence. Management of the houses is provided by a live-in house manager. The house manager assures that residents are adhering to the rules of the program and that the environments remain safe and free from drugs and alcohol.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

In addition to individual therapy, every day of the week is highly structured around a variety of group therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, relapse prevention, process groups, yoga/qigong, anger management, 12-step groups, and Life Story groups.

The residential treatment program provides intensive individual therapy with a psychologist or licensed marriage and family therapist three times a week. Residents also receive individual therapy from an experienced drug and alcohol counselor three times a week. As part of completing the program, each resident develops a highly individualized treatment plan based on the assessment of and communication between themselves and their treatment team.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

This has been a horrific experience! First they gave my daughter the wrong medications. Then they let her use her phone at all times to contact drug dealers. Then they let her go with a strange man who did drugs with her. This is just a place to hold drunks for awhile. But this is the second time she left OH to go strait back to drugs and dangerous behavior. They are not qualified to give real therapy or recovery. They are mostly x addicts and do not have a medical background. They do not even communicate to the patients physicians. Avoid!!!!!

Olympia House Rehab was a transformative experience. The food was excellent, and the comfortable accommodations ensured a good night's sleep. The tranquil farm setting was perfect for unwinding. The daily classes were insightful and provided the tools I needed to continue my sobriety. Highly recommended for anyone seeking help with chemical dependency and wants their life back.

Counselor Lisa needs to work on her professionalism. Gossiping with clients and making disparaging remarks in regards to people who call to speak to a client is not where it s at. Staff need to realize that (2) weeks of semi-cohabitation with psychotropic medicated and alcohol free clients does not make for a close or informed relationship. Oftentimes people who call in (at request of clients) have cohabitated with them for decades & endured outrageous amounts of abuse and suffering at the hands of their mental illness and alcoholism. As a person who worked as a counselor at a dual diagnosis residential treatment center in her 20 s, I can confidently say these programs are a joke.

By far. the best (out of 7 total) rehab facilities I've ever been to. They actually do trauma therapy, and you get sessions with a licensed psychologist twice a week, in addition to your drug counselor. The very best therapists I have EVER worked with. And the best drug counselor I've ever had.I've been looking for therapy like this, and the answers I got at Olympia House, for 20 years. They are the most skilled, caring, and professional team of people I've ever worked with in mental health. I'm dual diagnosis, so I've been seeing professionals for my mental health for 25 years. Some of their curriculum is custom, developed in house by the psychologists there you won't find tools like these anywhere else. I have a custom designed "addictive system" I use every day to track where I am in my recovery and mental health. I use this not only to prevent relapses, but correct myself if I run off course, and this works not just for substance relapses but also things like depression, anxiety, and anger.Their website doesn't reflect this, but they take Kaiser Permanente insurance now. That's the only reason I was able to come here.I know reviews are inflated on the Internet, but please trust me, I swear with every fiber of my being and every ounce of integrity I have, this is likely the best rehab in California. If you have trauma, and most people do, or some form of PTSD, this is the place you should go.They also focus on finding meaning and purpose in life--and they will definitely help you with that. They also allow you to come back to the rehab twice a year for 2-3 days for free! They call it a "tune up". No one else I know of does this. There's also free group therapy for alumni (a process group led by one of the therapists there) once a week via Zoom.I would wake up many times in OH in disbelief that this place exists at all, and that I got to be a resident here. They've made an enormous difference in the outcome of my life.******ADDENDUM******I recently read a review of OH where someone on the autism spectrum had a difficult experience. I'm sorry to hear that, but I simply wanted to say I'm (diagnosed) autistic (ASD 1/Aspergers) myself and felt that OH not only understood the strengths and limitations that can come with that, but also caused me to realize I had overestimated how different I was from my peers because of my autism. I still have it, of course, but the result of being at OH was a clearer picture of its actual impact in my life, particularly with peer relationships. I can't thank them enough for helping me with this, I have a much healthier social life today as a result.

Olympia house and the amazing practitioners and staff members have saved my life, nurtured my growth and long term sobriety, always gone to bat for me, and gone above and beyond for me in so so so many ways. I will be forever grateful for clinicians: Senadhi, Ginny, Cassandra and Hilary in particular, and staff members Chris, Matthew, Mische, Daniel, Jonathan, Lisa, Kendra, and Ed.As I continue to recover, grow, and live my best life, I will find my own special way to give back and honor the people and organization that has given me so much.

Olympia house is special. Sacred. 2 things make this place special: the therapy model and the really tight knit alumni circle. I ve been in and out of treatment for 20 years and went I first came to OH 6 years ago I immediately felt this place was different.OH is unique in that some of my absolute closest friendships are from OH. This is possible because of Tune ups and alumni meetings. OH is the only place I ve ever been that reserves two beds AT ALL TIMES for alumni to come for 2 days FOR FREE. So at any given time you might meet someone with 3 years and see what time in recovery can look like. It also allows people to stabilize during a hard time BEFORE a relapse. Seriously 3 out of 4 of my closest friends are from Olympia House. Connection is the opposite of addiction and OH embodies this. I still come every week to the Thursday alumni meeting.I did a few rounds of trauma work with Senadhi who created the clinical program. It really changed my life.Olympia house is one of the few places in the area that is still privately owned. The founder specifically organized the program to help people not to make make money. (Sometimes to their own detriment).Like any tx it s not perfect. I have seen people slip thru the cracks sometimes. It can usually be remedied by being proactive. Also they offer many peer support groups not just 12 step which was important to me.My therapist even came to visit me in the hospital after I had a serious overdose. They really care. This place has heart. For me it s a life long connection.Thank you OH

I have tried several times to get sober. I found the tools taught here and the amount of individual therapy to be exactly what I needed. Everyone on staff I interacted with were very professional and truly cared about the clients. The 90 days I spent at O.H. were life changing! I continue to participate in the alumni meeting and work with my therapist I was assigned to. It has been a rewarding experience. I feel confident that I can maintain quality sobriety for life!

Olympia House saved my life! I went to OH at the lowest point in my life. The care I received there changed the course of the rest of my life. I have been sober over a year now and OH was the first step! The staff is absolutely amazing. Every individual that works there is incredibly caring and supportive. I saw my licensed therapist 2x per week and my AOD counselor 2x per week. This helped me get to the root of my addiction. The classes each day teach you how to be a successful person is recovery.I also participated in yoga which is offered every week and I participated in equine therapy. We residents played beach volleyball- this made us feel normal. The accommodations are next level. The homes are lovely little cottages set on a beautiful hillside with a stunning view. The menu is healthy and delicious. I loved the daily salad bar! There isn t a better place to take a break from life and focus on your recovery. OH will always hold a special place in my heart!
