Accepted Insurance

Midwest Institute for Addiction Treatment: Alcohol & Drug Rehab in St Louis, MO works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
MIA’s outpatient programs provide medical, psychiatric, and behavioral components of treatment to facilitate long-term recovery and wellness through a person-centered approach. Their multi-disciplinary team of medical, psychiatric, and therapy professionals maintain communication and corroboration to facilitate quality of care throughout the program and ensure malleability to the needs, circumstances, and preferences of the people we serve.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide a safe, supportive environment for clients to focus on their recovery secure from outside distractions, stressors, and triggers. Clients receive housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision. They also engage in extensive addiction counseling, often including group and family therapy. Many programs prioritize recovery-focused life skills training to support clients' reintegration into their home, workplace, school, and community. Evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga, acupuncture, meditation, hypnotherapy, or animal therapy, may also be provided.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Their IOP program combines the same individualized services as their General Outpatient Program with an intensity of 9 treatment hours each week. The 9 hours each week are comprised of sessions with their psychiatrist, medical doctor, individual therapists, family therapists, group therapists, health and wellness staff, and other psycho-educational service staff. While most programs offer this level of care, it often consists of large groups and limited scheduling. Their IOP program is provided M-F 9a-8p and Saturday 9a-2p to ensure that those in need of quality treatment can still meet life’s many obligations.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer continuing care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are designed to evolve over time. Outpatient treatment is generally categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive services after being discharged from formal care. These services are customized to clients' unique recovery goals, but typically include medical, mental health, and social services. Clients' case manager and recovery team play a key role in developing the client's care plan.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs are designed to enable participants to understand and address the root causes of their addiction, accept responsibility for their life choices, and relinquish control over that which they cannot change. Participants are expected to regularly attend 12 step meetings and to be mentored in their recovery journey by a self-selected sponsor. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public. A variety of formats are available, including programs for seniors, teens, family members, and nondenominational Christians.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Missouri is designed to foster character development, accountability, camaraderie, and mutual peer encouragement. In this communal-living setting, individuals in recovery share household responsibilities and participate in 12-step programs together. Residents can remain in the home as long as they want, as long as they follow the house rules. An average stay in men's or women's sober living lasts between five and eight months.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Designed for individuals who don't require 24/7 monitoring, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides intensive-level treatment while allowing you to stay at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment per week for an average duration of 90 days. Services commonly offered in PHP include medication management and evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Insurance coverage for PHP treatment may vary depending on your provider.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Due to the potential for severe withdrawal symptoms, it is important to detox in a facility with 24-hour clinical care in Missouri. Most people experience some form of withdrawal symptoms, and this setting offers medical professionals who are on site 24/7 to provide any necessary treatment. This supervision makes the detox process safer and less painful and improves the likelihood of a successful recovery.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Their St. Louis outpatient alcohol and drug detox is tailored in length to the individual and their needs but typically lasts 4-6 weeks for outpatient alcohol detox and 4-8 weeks for outpatient opiate detox. Outpatient detox for other drugs varies. Individuals in their outpatient alcohol and drug detox do not need the structure and level of care that their inpatient detox provides and have the ability to detox while continuing with their normal lives. Their outpatient alcohol and drug detox is available as a single program but is also included in their intensive outpatient programs for those just entering alcohol and/or drug addiction treatment in St. Louis.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Missouri usually involves several phases: detox, rehab, and aftercare. The rehab phase may include a combination of inpatient and outpatient treatments, as the individual moves through a continuum of care on their recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

A complete course of dialectical behavior therapy typically takes six months. Skills training happens in a group setting. You'll also attend weekly individual treatment sessions to receive coaching from a therapist. You'll work on understanding and accepting your feelings and learn how to manage them to make positive changes.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Within a trauma therapy environment, you have a structured approach to healing from past traumatic events that you witnessed or experienced. You are guided to understand your response and then develop healthier coping skills and mechanisms that Foster greater empowerment and recovery.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

MIA Family Services will provide psycho-educational groups, support groups, family counseling and other opportunities for healing in families that continue to struggle with the effects of active substance use by a loved one. Although a loved one may not be willing to enter treatment, research demonstrates that family members can reduce stress, cultivate healthier relationships and create an environment conducive to recovery separate from the substance user.

Life skills give you the ability to maintain healthy relationships, complete day to day tasks, and cope with challenges. Because substance use disorder often diminishes these skills, rehab in Missouri includes integrated life skills training to rebuild and reinforce these abilities.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy helps you overcome addiction by engaging in activities that promote physical fitness and mental health. These activities can include team sports, art, and outdoor adventures, Each of which helps reduce your stress level, improves mood, and develops new hobbies. These are crucial to support your long term journey to sobriety.

Nicotine replacement therapy in Missouri addresses physical dependence on nicotine, while support systems and behavioral therapy address the psychological aspects of addiction. Formats include inhalers, nasal sprays, lozenges, patches, and gum.

I was there about 5 years ago. I was about 2 hours away. I was doing great then I was kicked out because I couldn t come to their classes. They classes was in the middle of the day when I was working. They get you to pay all that money to act like they care. I am seeing a different dr. that sees I am in a lot of pain and has been using Subutex for pain.

This place is TRASH. Don t go unless you want all of your money snatched out of your account. Scott (the owner) is also a piece of work. DO NOT GO HERE. There are plenty of better options.

Where do I even begin? The insurance fraud I can't comment on due to the initiation of an investigation. Beyond that I was charged for at least a half dozen services never rendered. In addition, they charged me at well above the signed and agreed upon copay for my insurance. In the end I had to contact the president, Scott McKinney, directly. He removed the errant charges, apologized profusely and we parted ways. Yet instead of allowing me to make monthly payments with a nominal interest fee, they charged the entirety of my bill to my credit card, which has very high rates, without asking my permission or even telling me. This company is corrupt and uncaring to say the least. Please seek alternative help with your addictions.

Response from the owner7 years ago
We apologize that we were unable to satisfy any complaints brought to our staff. We welcome any investigation of our billing practices. It is common practice for random audits by insurance payers which we are accustom to. MIA also voluntarily opens all billing and financial records up when audited by CARF International. CARF International's accreditation is completely voluntary and is regarded as one of the highest and most respected accrediting bodies for treatment organizations. Programs holding this high standard are automatically awarded State accreditations. MIA has never received less than a 3-year accreditation which is the highest that can be received. There are times where errors occur, as in any aspect of life, and MIA quickly and efficiently addresses errors when identified by staff or clients. While most medical practices expect payment in full for services rendered, MIA provides clients the ability to make payment plans in an effort to make access to treatment more affordable to more people. At the initiation of treatment, all billing processes and expectations are explained to clients and clients sign agreements indicating their understanding of the expectations, rates, and insurance benefits. We do require credit cards to be authorized for payments to ensure that, in the event that clients do not make efforts to pay their balance, the agreed upon amounts may be collected. We have already obtained permission and require written consent from the cardholder for payments before any credit card is charged. MIA thoroughly explains the information and expectations in regard to treatment and finances during a 1-hour consultation, again during a 1.5-hour assessment, and finally during the 1-hour intake in which all forms are signed. Knowing all aspects and expectations, clients voluntarily enter treatment at MIA. We recommend asking many people about MIA's reputation as MIA is highly regarded among clients and professionals throughout St. Louis and our industry.
