Im not sure how to start so I will keep this as short as possible. My son was in 4 other treatment centers and Lifeskills was far beyond my expectations. They stayed in touch with me constantly and showed such compassion and patience with my son. They taught my family many things that we will use as tools moving forward. Esther said a few things to me that I will always keep in the back of my head and have learned from them already. If you have a loved one that needs help with addiction, trauma and/or mental illness this is without a doubt the place for help and recovery. If you feel hopeless and are out of options rest assured Lifeskills will give them 100% of what they need to live a healthy and productive life.

Accepted Insurance

Lifeskills South Florida works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Lifeskills South Florida offers comprehensive outpatient treatment programs for men and women ages 18 over suffering from psychiatric and substance use disorders who need a structured, intensive and extended care experience. Their licensed and professional staff in the Delray Beach outpatient facility, provide individual treatment plans that allows clients to modify their level of participation within the various group sessions offered.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Lifeskills Residential Treatment and Extended Care Program offers hope, healing and a healthy lifestyle for all its residents. Whether they’re a referring mental health professional or they’re interested in Lifeskills for themselves or a family member, they’ll soon discover why their facility has been named a “Center for Clinical Excellence” for adults and their families.
aftercare iconAftercare
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Florida is an essential part of treatment, particularly with medical detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe, and supervised detox provides around the clock access to medical professionals who can adminsiter proper medications and treatment to address these symptoms and step in should an emergency occur. This intensive clinical care will help curb the withdrawal effects, minimize substance dependence, and prepare you for the next step of treatment.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Lifeskills South Florida values and recognizes the importance of treating the client in the context of the family system. Their goal is to ensure that the gains made in treatment by the client are maintained following discharge. Therefore, participation by family members in their weekend–long intensive family program is recommended.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

I ve been in and out of mental health facilities for years, but LifeSkills was by far my worst experience. I discharged in May and wasn't allowed to write a review at the end of my stay because I didn t give them 5 stars. I held off sharing this experience because it s so hard to think about, but I hope this can help someone. Please remember that this is MY experience, and that everyone s needs and struggles are vastly different! The program itself has potential and can be life-changing, but was undermined by a toxic community. Staff often turned a blind eye to those who were struggling. I was only checked in on when patients told staff to do so. The only feedback I actually got at the time was VERBATIM, 'don t be stupid.' I witnessed patients being called derogatory names, and I was called 'spoiled' for standing up for myself.A tech named Tomara got in my face over a rule, which I later found out by the supervisor, I was right about. Despite this, she faced no consequences for her disgusting behavior. Instead, all female patients were told to obey staff even if they re wrong. The staff, mostly techs, were often unprofessional and rude. There was a staff member named Marsha who treated me with a shocking amount of disrespect. Her hurtful comments, like telling me I d become a terrible person during my stay, were completely out of line. She even went as far as telling other clients to avoid me, calling me a 'bad influence.' Many people had issues with her, and her attitude towards clients baffled me.Whenever I spoke up about the treatment, other clients would justify it by saying it was normal for southern Florida. There is NO excuse for making people who are already struggling feel so alone in a place where they re supposed to be getting better. Here are a few other issues I had:- Rules changed almost daily. Since there s no handbook stating all of them, you have to constantly get in trouble just to figure them out. Nothing made sense, and the staff couldn t even keep up with their own rules;- The facility misused the Baker Act to keep people from leaving. They do this to almost everyone who tries to leave against medical advice. At one point I overheard a police officer telling a therapist that Lifeskills' behavior was becoming a noticeable pattern;- Phone calls were monitored. They claim upfront that this is done to provide emotional support when distressing calls arise. This isn t true at all. I had many calls where I was on the phone with my family trying to share my experiences at Lifeskills. It was only when I had bad things to say that I would either get cut off by the tech or they would forcefully hang up the phone and cut my time short. The only reason the staff is there is to stop you from bad mouthing the program. That's it.In summary, my experience at LifeSkills was very disappointing considering that the program has a lot of potential. The lack of professionalism, inconsistent rules, and disregard for patients well-being created an environment that made recovery that much harder for me. I hope this review helps those considering LifeSkills at all!I also just wanted to shout out a few of the staff members that made a meaningful difference during my stay. My sincere thanks go to Dani, Ilissa, Heather, and Jamel for their endless support and your positive impact on the community!!

Overall, my experience at Lifeskills was positive. My time at Residential allowed for medication management and I have found more stability. I learned new skills to better manage my mental health, gained independence and made new friends. My therapist, Dr. Despina, was amazing. She was the right balance of straightforward and loving. My family therapist, Ilissa, was the best. I loved her. I enjoyed working with Rabbi, Heather, Brian and Dani. This program was 10x better than any other program I'd been to in the past. Shout out to techs / Residential staff: Mimi, Rochelle, Patricia, Gigi, Brooke, Victoria, Betina, Kevin and Dan.

When I arrived here at LifeSkills, I arrived a mess, life was unmanageable and I struggled with communication. Additionally, there was a growing strain between me and the people I care about the most. My therapist, Dr. Robert Bruno, helped me immensely repair those relationships, and though the work is not yet done, I know I have made real progress. Esther, my family therapist, was very supportive and empathetic. The people at LifeSkills, including tech staff, medical and clinical team, have all been extremely supportive, and always have my best interest at heart. Good Guy Gus is the best. He s been with me this whole time. We ve made a lot of memories, most of which are good. He comes off rough if you don t know him but he s got a good heart. Gus has been an integral part of my recovery. Bobby s been a parental figure to me. He helped me become the man I am today. His sense of humor and his bingo nights helped me immensely and I really bonded with him. Hector and I would speak for long periods of time on all sorts of deep subjects and he challenged my perspective, even when he agreed, just to widen my horizons. Tennessee Jason helped me out a lot by being a listening ear and empathizing with what was going on in my life. Rabbi Brandon's classes always had me on the edge of my seat. He always knew how to tie everything together on a very intellectual level. Brian, the art therapist, helped push me to do art when it wasn t my forte. He intertwined a lot of deep, relevant lessons into his art. Karen, the dietician, is awesome. She s become a great friend, she s very caring and compassionate and is very knowledgeable. She even skipped out on what she was teaching to have an intervention on my behalf. Heather, the metabolic fitness trainer, is always upbeat, chipper, caring and understanding and eager to help. Tamara would always seek to assist me when I was in need or in the midst of a struggle, Graybeard Jon did not hesitate to help me out and was always willing to go above and beyond for me. Coolio Chris was always cool, no matter what was going on and always had a smile on his face that was contagious, and a big time patient advocate. Dani, the Alumni Relations Coordinator, for her humongous contributions to the Lifeskills community. I also want to grant shout outs to Uncle Dan, Wild Bill, Holly, Honest Bill, Rebekah, Mimi. Moises, Victoria, Kelvin, Dayna, and Jackie. I have made so many golden memories and met so many amazing people here, clients, plenty of whom are now life long friends, some of which I consider amongst my very best friends. I have relearned the importance of community and how socializing with friends is very imperative to overall health. Thank you LifeSkills for all your help. After having spent a long time here, which I've cherished immensely, I look forward to many healthy, happy, and productive days ahead. #111strong!

As a parent of a 20 year old son that was experiencing a mental health crisis at a South Florida Behavioral Lockdown Hospital, my wife and I were scouring the country trying to find the best possible spot to send our son. We live in Missouri and the hospital gave us only about 72 hours to find a solution. You can imagine our level of stress. Thank God I was able to talk to Lara Snow at Life Skills. She answered the phone after hours but was able to speak with me for about 45 minutes. She said she had an evening commitment, but realizing our timeframe, she asked if she could call later that evening. She did call and we spoke for another 45 minutes. She then spoke with the discharging hospital the following morning as well as me and the consultant that we had hired. She got us registered and even tried to see if we might qualify for some insurance (which we did). I/we were also interviewing several other places, but what separated Lara from the rest was her grace, compassion, empathy and trust. After speaking to her for just a few moments, it felt like I was talking to a trusted friend. Somebody that not only was willing to guide us, but also willing to chuckle when we needed a laugh, or almost (thru the phone) provide a warm hug when we needed to cry. Never once did she try to sell us. She was far more interested in making us feel that we would be making a great choice for our son and our family if we selected Life Skills. We did and Lara insured that our son had a smooth transition and even arranged transportation so we did not have to fly down. I have spoken to her a few times since to ask how to best handle a situation, but also because it s fun to reconnect with an old friend. . Lara Snow is an amazing person and an incredible asset to Life Slills.

Throughout my stay in Lifeskills, I have discovered my authentic self and have become comfortable, content and proud with who I am. I know now the faade I used to hide behind in my past leads me down a dark path, and I am instead finding strength in being myself. By being my authentic self and meeting others who are also living authentically has allowed me to build healthy connections that align with the productive, healthy lifestyle I want for myself.Lifeskills has given me the opportunity to practice this in a safe environment where I got to implement life skills I ll need when I get out: boundaries, self-advocacy, co-existing with others, and obviously cooking and laundry. Lifeskills is a microcosm of the real world where I got to lay the foundation for what I want to get out of my life.Shout out to Dani, the Alumni Relations Coordinator, Rabbi Gaines and Dr. David Forstadt, for providing a safe space. I was able to connect with the 3 of them in a way that perfectly aligned with what I m trying to achieve in my recovery and they were there for me throughout my time here.I also want to commend Sandy, my primary therapist, for being exactly what I needed. I could list every single tech here because they were all amazing, but special mention to Victoria, Kevin, Gus, Jean-Claude, Betina and Rochelle.
