About Life Center of Galax

Life Center of Galax is a residential, outpatient, and detox facility in Galax, Virginia, that treats drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Assistance is given to individuals who are 18 years or older dealing with addiction and co-occurring mental health issues. Additional services that are available at this facility include relapse prevention and treatment, family therapy and day support. Clients who are unsure about seeking treatment can take their free online assessment to help with making a decision. Life Center of Galax accepts payment through various private insurance providers. They provide treatment to both men and women and offer gender specific group sessions.

One thing that I like about this facility is that it offers addiction treatment for a variety of drugs. Clients can receive help for addictions to heroin, marijuana, meth and other substances. They also provide assistance for those struggling with prescription drug addiction. Life Center of Galax features a qualified staff that includes board certified psychiatrists, licensed counselors and nurse practitioners. Most patients will start by undergoing their detox program with assistance from the 24 hour nursing staff. If medication assisted treatment is necessary for opiate addiction, patients may receive methadone, Vivitrol or buprenorphine. All of the medications are designed to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and drug cravings.

In the residential treatment program, clients receive assessments, testing and interviews to develop a treatment plan. The treatment plan is also adjusted throughout the time the client is there. Therapeutic treatments that clients may receive include reality therapy, experiential therapy and cognitive therapy.

In the outpatient drug rehab program, clients receive a less intense approach through day support that gives them the flexibility to leave the center after the completion of treatment for the day. Services in this program include group therapy and leisure activities.

Let me tell you about the Life Center in Galax Va. My son tried for days to get into a rehab. He has Medicaid so his options were limited. I have never seen so much effort and positive attitude regarding treatment from my son, ever. My son was not on suboxone or benzos prior ... Read More

This place saved my life. I had a great experience. Staff was friendly and supportive. The Counseling was great. Food is fantastic and I especially loved the off campus Housing. White Castle rules!

Staff never returned numerous calls from parents concerned about daughter. Left multiple messages. Daughter was surrounded by felons, and drug users.

People that's left reviews need to stop complaining about the methadone there going to mess it up for people like me who need methadone it's not like they force you to take methadone they have a lot of patients in any hospital rehab or detox there's gonna be people who suffer negative side effects to any drugs so please think about the thousands of people who need methadone and might not possibly get it because of peoples negative reviews

I must caution everyone about this facility. As I write this review, my daughter is in a local hospital in serious condition. She is experiencing hallucinations from drugs that she acquired at this rehab facility.According to her, this place is poorly supervised, with drugs easily accessible, inappropriate behavior among patients, and an apathetic staff. The doctor at the hospital informed me that this rehab facility has a terrible reputation in the area. He is in the process of finding her another placement.I personally made three calls to speak to someone in charge, and each time I was sent to voicemail without receiving a returned call. This is extremely concerning and unprofessional.Update: My daughter came home after a three-week recovery in the hospital. She is now heading to a more professionally run rehab facility.Since writing this review I have been in touch with other people about their horrific experience with this facility. One mother told me her son died from an overdose in this facility. I hope that this place is shut down and those who have lost loved ones receive compensation for their pain and suffering.

I was a patient there Ion November 2023-December 2023. I subjected to fecal matter in the shower, blood all over the bathroom which the nursing staff had to call a meeting for everyone on the campus about, fell and injured my shoulder because they would not get a rubber foot for my cane. Now they think I tore rotator cuff. I subjected to syphlis due to a roommate who I had to clean up his mess. They would not. Was told by Angie Gillespie I was going to be arrested for trespassing because I was in the building where her and I were having a meeting that day. Was told several times that same day in front of Felicia I was going to andmin discharged. That did not happen. Angie called security on me, Felica stopped that. Security ended up driving me to local urgent care so I could get my shoulder taken care of. Tony Ishom, the CEO sent me my certification and clothing after I returned home because of all the issues I had. Health department had to be called on them due the rat infestation they have. Rats were in the smoking yard. People overdosed while I was in there, two people died. Was not allowed to call911. Drug dealers were admitted and selling while in. I would not recommend this institution to anyone. Now I have attorney going after them for medical malpractice but that whole different story. PLEASE DO NOT, I REPEAT DOT GO THER OR SEND A LOVE ONE THERE. That place is horrible.Did I forget to mention that I was volunteer firefighter and EMT. And I was there for alcohol only but they wanted to put me methadone. I don t do or use drugs. Look into this institution first. My insurance is getting there money back from my stay. I was told 30 days then it tried to change to 90 after I was in. That did not happen. They won t let you talk to your insurance at all. Can t use phone untill after business hours. Some people are good and really try to help but as a whole the institution is a joke and they lie to you, especially Angie Gillespie. I had to as they say AMA, but security knew what was going on with me and they like I said drove me to the nearest clinic to get my shoulder looked at.DONT GO HERE,Pleas, for your own good. If anyone wants to know the whole story and what actually went on at gaylax, I m me on Facebook I be glad to tell you everything and the names involved. And yes by bloodwork came back negative, thank god. But I had to do it myself. It s about time either the state or our insurance companies do something about this place. All they are interested in is the insurance money with no lack to the client whom is paying for the care. And that comes from the staff themselves not me, so, what can be done? Call Tony Ishom, or Angie Gillespie? Or call your own insurance companies as I did and tell them what you went through being a client there. Remember, insurance works for you, not them. The institution should be clearly shut down. But it isn t going to take the act of of one but many, many complaints to your insurance companies. Don t just complain but be proactive and call your insurance companies.

1st they searched through my stuff without me being present I had medication stolen from my bag and $400.00. Then they lost my medical chart and took me off of my high blood pressure medication and refused to give me any. Over a 4 day period they gave an alcoholic methadone and he overdosed and was rushed to the hospital. Idk if he survived. Then they locked the only key to the detox med room in the med room. My blood pressure got to 190/110 before they took action gave me too much and my blood pressure went down so fast I collapsed they almost killed me don t go there! Too many people in a small facility and all you ll do is stand in line for everything and constantly blow ur medical problems off. I ve tried calling to find out where my stuff went but they won t call me back.

It has been brought to my attention that this is a location that does not care much at all about their residence. They allow Covid recovery addicts to spend time together holding hands. God forbid they re doing anything other than that even though they have cameras all over the place it s still a situation that can happen at any time.. On top of that, the food is disgusting, They walked with the holes holding hands. The staff doesn t pay much attention. There s no proper structure, and it appears that they only there for a paycheck..

If I could give a lower rating I would. I took a young man here and I was appalled at: the understaffing, the lack of structure, the physical plant, the credentials of staff. Please, there are many options out there, please do your research.

Way too much Methadone and upper management is under qualified but the hands on staff and counselors are kind and helpful. Stacy Jones is a wonderful asset to the program and has more recovery and sense than the director could ever dream of. The issues here are clearly systemic, the parent company Acadia health must have lost sight of what recovery is and seems solely focused on profits. You can find recovery here but like most things worth having you must seek it and work for it! Thanks to the staff whom I will be grateful for the time I was able to share with you guys. God bless!P.S. the food was amazing!
