I write this review after having a horrific experience at Oceans s Behavioral Health in Hammond in July of 2023. (I encourage you to read my review for them before allowing your dementia family member go there!)When my dad was sent again to geriatric psych at Lakeview, I was scared we were about to experience the same thing again, especially after seeing the reviews on here! However, our experience at Lakeview was completely different. My dad spent 4 weeks at Lakeview over the Christmas holidays and beyond. I was able to visit him between 3:30 and 4:30 everyday. The facility was very clean and simply resembled a hospital setting. I was escorted to his room each day but was able to puts eyes on other patients, the group room, the nursing station, etc. while there. The doors to patient rooms were open and I never saw anything disturbing or anyone tied to a bed as one lady who left a review wondered about. I never heard any shouting or yelling by staff or patients. It simply just reminded me of a normal hospital setting.I visited my dad almost every single day during his four weeks there. In those visits, I often checked my dad s body for marks and gauged how he felt about the staff that often dropped in to say hello when I was there. My dad seemed clean, generally content, awake and aware, chatty and friendly with the staff. Everyone who interacted with he and I were very kind.Kianti (Tay) who escorted me daily was the sweetest gentleman and my dad really enjoyed him.Overall, I was pleased with the care he received. As a caregiver to a Dementia patient with behavioral issues it s tough to be their advocate and protect them. I would allow my dad to go back to Lakeview if the need arises. I hope this review helps someone else.

Vast majority of staff is cold as ice. Uncaring and short tempered. Took four days for them to realize that I was having Covid and cancer issues, not mental issues. Staff lied to their supervisors when I complained. NEVER let anyone but enemies go there!

Accepted Insurance

Lakeview Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Initial phases of rehab treatment often require 24-hour clinical care in Louisiana. This supervised treatment offers three main benefits. Medical staff can provide medications to treat withdrawal. Clients can also benefit from having 24-hour nursing staff available to treat any other physical symptoms. Lastly, this setting ensures that professionals are constantly available to address any emotional or mental health issues related to the addiction or co-occurring disorders.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

In Louisiana, trauma therapy helps you explore the impact that a traumatic event has had on your life. You can experience emotional and physical responses if you witness or experience a traumatic event. Your therapist guides you in processing the trauma and then developing coping strategies that improve your quality of life.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

My mom was sent here to just get her meds straightened out. My mom was 92 yrs old and had no mental issues. They gave her anxiety meds, sleeping pills, and mood stabilizers, stuff she had never taken before. There has to be a reason they only let one visitor in there once a day.The state ended up having control of how long she had to stay there. She stayed 10 days ? She ended up passing out and they sent her to the hospital. My mom was so messed up coming out of there. Needles to say she passed away 2 weeks after coming out of there.DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE.Please find a different place to send them. They need to close this horrible place down!!

I wish that I could rate -0 but that isn't an option. The staff is rude and they lie to cover their neglect. The director is even worse. Find another placement for your love one, this is not it!

My mom had advanced dementia. She was admitted here to get her medications balanced so she could return home. She was in good health other than the dementia. She fell and broke her femur just below her hip which resulted in emergency surgery for a rod placement. Within a couple of days she got pneumonia. For quite sometime had swallowing problems which resulted in "junk" in her lungs (she choked and quit breathing once but recovered after I gave her CPR). The pneumonia progressed to the point of being told she either needed to be placed on a ventilator and more than likely I would be forced to decide when to "pull the plug" or be sent home with hospice care. I chose hospice care. Several days later my mother passed away. While she was in the hospital she continually called for a nurse from the unit by name. Why didn't she attempt to get up and go to the nurse? Was she tied to the bed? There were no marks suggesting so. She talked over and over again about food on the floor that she slipped in. Was there food on the floor? I'll never know the answer to any of my questions because no one from this facility EVER contacted me about the fall or that she was sent to the hospital for surgery. The ER nurse called me. My mother passed away March 29, 2023. To this day I have not spoken to or received any correspondence from this facility other than invoices. PLEASE do not subject your loved one to this facility. I regret every day the decision to send my mother here. They might as well have put a knife through her heart.

Held here 15 days which is the maximum allowed, should have been discharged within 3 days had they provided proper medicine that agreed with me. Oh and this is more of a DETOX Center, not behavioral. Will file complaint with my insurance company.

Awful experience. Staff rude No empathy. Took 6 hour to receive medication nurse practitioner ordered. Doctors and nurse practitioner all disagreed with each other and changed meds when they came on duty They come into your room every fifteen minutes and press button on wall all night. They slam door or leave it open. Lights in hall very bright you will not sleep if you are a patient at Lakeview. They do this to all patients your entire stay. This very hard when your in for any psychiatric or addiction problem. Sleep is important. Also when they come in your room they don t even look at you, if you were dead they would not noticeUpon discharge I was supposed to go to a dual diagnosis outpatient program. Was sent to only psychiatrist program with a combination of diagnosis. I need both. Social worker seen only on admit. No therapy of any sort except on Tuesday and Thursday. Don t know how they stay open. I could go on and on. But I ll stop here.
