About JourneyPure — Tennessee Alcohol & Drug Rehab

JourneyPure at the River provides addiction recovery programs for adults in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They offer residential, intensive outpatient (IOP) and general outpatient (OP) programs.

Their residential program can help you begin your recovery in a safe and supervised environment away from the triggers and temptations that may feed your substance use disorder (SUD). The first thing you’ll notice about their campus is their nature-oriented approach to therapy. Their 120-acre location features lush and scenic forest views with the winding West Fork Stones River giving a peaceful soundtrack to the environment.

In addition to the tantalizing scenery, JourneyPure features an array of activities to assist in guests’ journey to sobriety. These include a ropes course, an amphitheater, horseback riding, and a fire pit. It certainly breaks the stereotype of drug rehab facilities feeling bleak and clinical.

Once you’re ready to step down into a lower level of care, they also offer intensive outpatient and general outpatient services. These programs allow you to return home at the end of the day so you can maintain your personal and professional responsibilities.

Some of the outpatient services they offer include individual and group therapy. You’ll have the chance to work with your counselor to unpack experiences and emotions that might be influencing your addition, and hear from others who are on the same path as you. They also have holistic treatments that include experiential offerings and art therapy.

Treatment seems to be in-network, too, so insurance providers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, Humana, and 43 others are all accepted. If finding recovery in nature sounds appealing to you or your loved one, check out JourneyPure’s Tennessee campus today.

Accepted Insurance

JourneyPure — Tennessee Alcohol & Drug Rehab works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financing aid

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
JourneyPure’s residential rehabilitation program takes a new spin on a traditional approach. Each patient attends weekly individual therapy sessions, where they are treated for their addictions as well as any co-occuring mental health disorders that may be present. Their residential rehabilitation recovery program features a team of drug and alcohol abuse professionals who are experts in addiction recovery with decades of experience in the field. Residential recovery programs combine intensive group and individual counseling within a recovery living environment. They treat each client with dignity, respect and confidentiality.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
JourneyPure’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers a full continuum of drug & alcohol education, counseling and therapy. Their intensive outpatient addiction treatment can be utilized as a step down from residential treatment or a primary treatment program in some circumstances. IOP may be recommended as a primary program for patients who do not need a medically-supervised detox or whose addiction can be managed without residential treatment. The flexibility of IOP allows patients to maintain a job and live on their own while participating in a dedicated addiction recovery community, which is why most patients choose an IOP program local to their job and families.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention Services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need. They have a network of preferred providers highly trained in the field of intervention and can give you some recommendations about what that process looks like.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Safe detox requires 24-hour clinical care in Tennessee. This is due to the health risks that are involved during withdrawal. As the brain reacts to the absence of the drug, severe symptoms can occur, depending on the type of drug used. For instance, alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal may result in seizures. Fortunately, supervised care in a clinical setting can provide the necessary treatment to avoid health risks and allow you to complete detox safely.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and Alcohol detox is the first step toward recovery but it can also one of the most difficult steps in the entire journey. Whether a patient has been addicted for several weeks or dependent on a substance for several years, coming down safely requires proper medical assistance and supervision our staff is qualified to provide. The detox facility at JourneyPure Emerald Coast is clean and safe, monitored 24/7 by staff whose aim is to help make the process more comfortable. JourneyPure’s number one priority is the safety involved during this difficult transition away from alcohol and/or substances.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When your day-to-day life is taken over by drug use, this is known as substance use disorder. If you abruptly stop using your drug of choice, you experience withdrawal symptoms. To overcome this cycle, professional drug rehab in Tennessee is usually needed.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

At JourneyPure, some clients discover that much of their current destructive behavior is rooted in past traumas. This is not unusual, and it’s not something that should or can be blamed on one person. It’s simply a part of the addict’s history, which is why they use family counseling as a springboard for true recovery. They firmly believe that loved ones should play a major role in resolving that trauma. Family counseling and education provides healing and creates a healthy, long-term support system including positive accountability. Family therapy brings family members, clients and spouses together for an open and honest reflection of the behavior patterns that enabled the client’s self-destructive lifestyle.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Many individuals who are experiencing addiction are extremely malnourished. This is due to negative patterns that develop during active addiction. Nutrition therapy helps break these negative patterns and teaches you to develop healthy ones that will help you sustain sobriety long term.

Recreational therapy supports addiction recovery by giving you structured activities that promote physical and mental health. These help build a supportive network of your peers that promotes sobriety. Activities can include sports, creative arts, and outdoor adventures that help you reduce cravings, manage stress, and give you an emotional outlet.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

To quit smoking, you can use nicotine replacement therapy and gradually reduce the amount of nicotine you consume. This allows your brain and body to adjust so you can reach your goal of breaking free from cigarettes in just a few weeks.

I'm so glad journey pure was the first step for my recovery journey. Letting go and finally admitting I needed help was hard enough but when it came to reaching out for help the men and women at journey pure were absolutely amazing they helped me not only in giving me hope again and helping me take the steps to bettering my life but they help give me the opportunity to get where I'm at today. Sometimes for some people it's not just people and things you need to change but places is what I needed at the time so they helped get my probation to approve a state wide transfer so I could further my treatment somewhere else in another state. Journey pure is an absolutely amazing beautiful peaceful and stress free safe zone to begin such a huge step in taking your life back I would refer them to anyone needing help. I'm now beginning a life on my own with my new husband drug free. Thank you journey pure for welcoming me with open arms and always continuing to check in on me even three years later of being graduated from there!!!!

JourneyPure was great, they work with me through my issues, the staff and RC were awesome. I would recommend this rehabilitation program to anyone. I went there in October 2021 and I m going on three year sober. They check on me as much as they can to see how I m doing. After leaving the facility I am part of their alumni. I have visited and be part of their activities, and they still welcome me not as a patient but as part of their family. Thank you, Journey Pure for all you ve done for me.

Some of the staff are fantastic as well as the therapists. Most of the recovery coaches and group facilitators are less than a year sober. Maintenance is LACKING especially in the off campus homes. Course material is ok activities are ok. Equine is awesome but only scheduled once a week. Some of the staff are hateful towards patients and apathetic to their suffering. After a building caught fire I was having a panic attack and the night shift staff did nothing. I was having this panic attack because I was in a delicate position emotionally being 14 days sober I did not feel safe. My 1st night in detox two staff members got in a fight and another patient tried breaking it up and was discharged immediately. I learned a lot here but left with a sour taste in my mouth. I d heard rumors that this facility was going down hill. Those rumors are true I would not send my worst enemy here. I ve been cussed at by staff and my wife was disrespected by a group facilitator who was not disciplined and somehow is still employed by this mediocre company. If you are struggling and seeking help please do not go to journey pure at the river. Also they will not take you to the dentist or eye Dr if you are having problems. Several patients were having dental problems and in severe pain and they would not take them to get the medical attention they needed. The people that run this facility are money hungry that s all they want out of you is money. Several people came in to get off Suboxone to get on a shot and they could not get the shot.

JourneyPure is my first (and for all the right reasons hopefully my last) experience with rehabilitation. First impressions are usually the most important, and I would say that as a whole experience, going in "blind", and experiencing everything for the first time, there is extremely little that I would have any other way. Every person employed there, whom I interacted with, felt like a real, engaged-in-the-present person. From Residential Counselor to Chef, I felt like I could be fully open and ready to learn from their experiences. All of the classes were crucial to learning about my disease and knowing how to recognize and handle the warning signs therein. The most impactful lessons were the ones that were held outdoors, whether it be Equine, Drum Circle, Kayaking (in season), The Medicine Wheel, and other hands-on experiences (no spoilers!), and I know those will particularly stick with me going forward. There were times when organization / logistics had fallen short and there were opportunities for improvement from a managerial standpoint, but as a patient at the facility, they were all good lessons in going with the flow. I am on the right track, with a heavy influence from JourneyPure, and so I am grateful. I am empowered by the tools presented to me at the facility that I will carry with me going forward. If you're on the fence about going to rehab or not, consider this review as encouragement to go. Fifteen years an alcoholic, I'm now 56 days sober, and the role JourneyPure played in getting me on this path was crucial and impactful.

I learned a lot about myself and others. Most of the people who went through the program with me are keeping in contact with each other. The bond that we made will last forever. The staff was fantastic. I do not plan to, but I need it again I know right where I will be. Management is a little bit out there.

Journey pure really helped me when I had my last relapse to get back on my feet. I ve been to multiple treatment facilities within a year and a half. This is definitely one of the best ones. The class aren t just sitting in the rooms. Yes you learn about your disease but you re also getting out in nature and with animals. All the things you dreamed about doing but couldn t because of our addiction. The people that work there are very caring and helpful! If I ever had to send family anywhere it would be there. Thanks again journey pure for all the help and guidance I was given while my stay there!

JourneyPure is the best decision I have ever made. They taught me how to live and love life without alcohol and how to heal from past traumatic events and deal with the world in today's times. I had lost all hope. Their groups and therapy are extremely impactful, relevant and lifesaving. For the 1st time in 20 years I have hope for the life I want now and in the future and I'm excited to start living it. Graduation date was 10/14/24. And 49 days sober and attending their alumni meeting this evening. Thank you JourneyPure.

I completed the inpatient program here in 2022. To be honest, it was my second stay at a rehab. I didn t expect anything to be different. I ve been sober for close to two years now; the longest sobriety I ve ever experienced. I ve welcomed my first child, something addiction was never going to allow me to experience. The people there saved my life and in essence, helped me to create another. While I found comfort in spirituality and my own religion, JourneyPure offered numerous other therapies catering to other preferences. It allowed me to see other options in case my primaries failed. Thank you for saving my life.
