About Hill Country Counseling

Hill County Counseling is located in Austin, Texas, and provides dedicated programs to adults, families, and seniors suffering from mental health conditions. This counseling center offers an outpatient program and aftercare support to its clients.

Hill County outpatient program is offered at an intensive outpatient program (IOP) intensity level meaning that treatment sessions occur one to three times a week. More specifically, the client will attend one individual therapy session in addition to two group therapy sessions throughout the week. Lastly, this facility offers remote individual therapy sessions and provides transportation as well as lunch at no cost to the client.

Aftercare services are provided as an extension of the programs offered at these facilities. Clients are provided with several resources that include program referrals and educational material.

Furthermore, other major insurance providers include Kaiser Permanente, Bright Health, Wellmark, HCSC, and TRICARE. It is advised that those with out-of-network benefits should contact their employer to discuss their coverage.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

This place saved my life. Went there in 2011. I'm 36 now and once awhile I wonder what if I didn't, would I still be here. My doctor at the time was Betty F. Cannot remember her last name, but she was really the best. She opened my eyes and taught me I wasn't crazy and there wasn't really anything wrong with me. Said my "parents" got lazy with me because it was just more convenient for them if I was ignorant. They weren't really my parents, but merely caregivers. They didn't want to be my parents and it showed. Took one phone call on the speaker with Betty and my dad (without him knowing) she wanted me to hear it myself what he and my stepmom would say about me. Scapegoat in families is a real unfortunate problem when it comes to mental health and disabilities. Betty F. knew how to gain my trust and she knew how to pull me out the nightmare I was living. I will forever be extremely thankful for the life skills I learned in the groups. Almost 13 years later I looked this place up just hoping they're still in business. If I ever make a million dollars, I will definitely invest in them. The classes that teach you life skills and how to interact with others is beneficial in ways you don't learn in school. Mental health is essential. I'm hoh and it still taught me so much. Coping skills will be your life jacket and learning to be your own best friend will be the most challenging and rewarding experience. Retrain your thoughts, redirect your thoughts. Took years, but the "bad" thoughts gets better. They tone down and eventually fade. Always practice redirecting thoughts, triggers come and go. But doesn't hit as bad. Rely on the coping skills to get through every bad day. Because your best days will come and you'll know life can be good. You have to focus on what you can do and stay busy on positive things. Anyway, I just wanted to say I am so very grateful for this place and opportunities they give people to live a better life and have a great future. They did for me.

Terrible customer service and attitude of Nettie who is answering the phones. I was referred through my employee assistance program on 12/22/22 and emailed through their website on 12/23/22. I was supposed to get a response within 24-48 hours. Didn't hear a thing, so I called on 12/29/22. Nettie said they were full and there was a several weeks waiting list. Then she hung up on me. I called back to give her some constructive criticism and she started arguing with me. So rude. I doubt the counselors are any better. I told her she should not be in this business if that's the way she treats cold calls. I informed my employee assistance program to never refer someone to them again.

Hi Amy. My name is Michele Henning. I am the Program Manager at Hill Country Counseling. I was sorry to hear about your experience with our company when you tried to make an appointment. I understand that it can be difficult when trying to find a provider for therapy services. However, I wanted to apologize for any misunderstanding or miscommunication you had with our office manager Nettie. Nettie is one of the sweetest and most understanding employees we have, which was why I was surprised about the treatment you received. I assure you that it was a misunderstanding and I hope that you can forgive her and our company as we always strive to give the best customer service possible. I understand that you were seeking counseling services and I hope that you find a provider who can meet your needs. If there is anything that I can do to assist you further, please let me know.

I went to Hill Country Counseling three times a week for close to a year. I got excellent guidance and counseling there from Michelle, one of the counselors there. Michelle was very professional and didn't judge me. She went above and beyond her "job" there, and took me to a crisis unit across town when she thought it best for me. This place is one of the best facilities I've ever been to...ever, and I've been to quite a few, in a few different states. If you feel like you could use some help, or just someone to talk to, go here and get some help.Danny, the owner is a very nice guy, and has a great staff there under him. I can't say enough good things about Hill Country Counseling. Do yourself a solid and check them out. You won't be disappointed, I promise.G- Man approved. 10/10...now...GO!!!

This place is a total joke. They will violate your HIPPA Law rights and give out any medical Mental Diagnosis and Medication Log to anyone who calls and states they are related. They did it to me and did not want to take responsibility or acknowledge their wrong doing. The owner is also a Joke! he has no integrity and will cover up his responsibility to the community. Please stay away from this place and the Human Services Dept. should investigate this place ASAP!

Response from the owner2 years ago
Alice, I know that you came here in 2015 and I apologize that you felt that your rights were violated. There is no excuse. I wanted to say that there is new management, the same owner, but a new supervisor who makes it her mission to respect everyone's needs and privacy especially. We try to stick to a new strict adherence. We value our clients because we are nothing with them. Thank you for your complete honesty and I wish you well.
