I was assured that my dietary needs( I have a doctor diagnosed gastro issue) were no problem to accommodate. They were not. I went through the proper chain of command and was ignored. It got to the point that my gastro issue flared up and caused me great pain and distention for days, which caused me to not eat for 2 days! I was told there was nothing they could do and that I'd have to leave if I wouldn't eat. I tried to tell them, it wasn't that I wouldn't eat, I can't!This wasn't an "an excuse "to leave, I need to be there! I want to be there!

Let me first just say I am grateful for the education and community I have experienced at Hazelden over the past year, it has been great. What is distressing, confusing, and heartbreaking is the lightening-fast way in which our virtual afternoon group has been disbanded. A business decision was made to eliminate the afternoon virtual program and push all current and new clients to attend in-person in NYC. The public party line is that new people "only want to attend in person." Read that as you will... Unfortunately, I live in Southampton year-round, so this is not possible for me.Even that decision, however near-sighted and poor I might think it is, can be accepted. What is intolerable, and what makes me feel like a distant 3rd class person, is how short the timeframe has been between being told, and our group being officially disbanded. It is a mere 2.5 weeks. I am barely processing it, and it is already over. If Hazelden is meant to be my "safe space" and a place that brings me comfort and security, well Management: you have failed miserably and utterly.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. While one virtual group will disband at the end of the month time which we hope will allow for group members to gain a sense of closure we also continue to offer evening virtual groups from our Hazelden Betty Ford in New York location, and are happy to assist with transfers.

Accepted Insurance

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient treatment varies slightly in frequency and intensity across the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, but an abstinence-based, Twelve Step approach built on evidence-based practices is core to all of our drug and alcohol rehab programs. The outpatient addiction treatment programs meet during the day or evening so the client can take care of work, family, or other responsibilities. Plus, outpatient treatment is in-network for many insurance providers, making it a readily accessible addiction rehab option.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Treatment programs takes place during the afternoon, and the patient have the option of living on-site, in their beautifully appointed sober residence located in the same place. IOP alcohol and drug rehab programs at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation - West Broadway operate under the same evidence-based, Twelve Step principles and practices as our inpatient treatment programs which includes personalized treatment planning, educational sessions, skill building workshops, group psychotherapy and one-to-one counseling.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Regaining and maintaining patients health means learning to live differently; learning to manage a chronic disease. Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation - West Broadway's post-treatment services and resources are designed to help you strengthen and advance your recovery over the long haul.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Their structured sober living condo residence in the heart of Tribeca surrounds patients with the care and support they need to build your new life in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction. Housed in a beautifully appointed, five-story Manhattan residence, their warm and welcoming sober living community offers an ideal living situation for young women and men, age 18-29, transitioning out of rehab or participating in outpatient addiction treatment.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide a space for clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while receiving intensive supervision and support. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and food and most offer round-the-clock clinical care. Their primary treatment modalities typically consist of addiction counseling using various psychotherapeutic methods, including CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Many rehabs also provide specialized services for clients with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Recovery-focused life skills training and holistic therapies are other common services.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Addiction affects everyone in the family. And family members need help in their own right to understand the disease of addiction and work through the chaos and pain it causes. They offer a free, weekly workshop for families and open to the public. It's a safe, nonjudgmental place for families faced with addiction to learn about the mechanics of addiction, understand the importance of taking responsibility for their own wellbeing and identify ways to set healthy boundaries

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

You can participate in couples therapy to focus on a specific problem in your relationship or for general strengthening of the relationship. This therapy aims to help you improve communication, address conflict, and grow in affection for one another.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in New York is a short term therapeutic method used to treat substance use and mental health disorders. CBT typically lasts from five to 20 sessions, based on the individual's needs.

During dialectical behavior therapy in New York, you and your therapist will look for triggers and patterns that are guiding your emotions. This involves keeping a diary of your emotions and situations and sharing this each week with the therapist. This information will determine what you work on in each session.

As you recover from addiction, eating the right foods will help you heal and build your health for long term sobriety. Nutrition therapy teaches you about the nutrition your body needs and how to eat the right foods to support your recovery.

Introduced in 1983, motivational interviewing is a method to help clients commit to change. It's based on the philosophy that change is hard, and clients must explore their own options and come to their own conclusions rather than receive warnings or advice from the therapist.

Betty Ford Center Rancho Mirage was awesome, top notch!! Counselors in recovery that knew my story, they lived it. TriBeCa was okay. Counselors not in recovery is a waste of time for addicts and alcoholics. The textbook can not teach rock bottom, poverty, losing spouses etc there s a point where counselors are salesman, a money grab. Allowing people to leave treatment that aren t ready just so they relapse and re-enter is not good treatment, it becomes a business.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thanks for your review, Kay. Our treatment teams are comprised of highly trained and licensed social workers and mental health and substance use clinicians with expertise in substance use treatment. We value lived experience in our treatment teams, and employ peer recovery specialists who provide incredible value. However, lived experience is not a requirement for clinical professional duties and the clinicians are encouraged to maintain professional boundaries and not disclose their personal recovery stories.

I attended Hazelden's outpatient program. This program is 4 days per week, for 2.5 hours per day (it's not 3 hours a day like advertised). There is a powerpoint presentation/lecture for an hour first (from 10.30 to 11.30) and then from 12.00 to 1.30 you meet in slightly smaller "process" groups. If you're cash pay (like your insurance doesn't cover it), your initial deposit should be $3,500. Each day is billed at $411. Considering the level of the programming, it's wildly overpriced. $411 to have someone read you a generic powerpoint slide by slide and then a very average hour and a half group isnt worth it. The smaller process group follows no organization or curriculum (just some random prompts and a lot of awkward silences)My counselor, Olga, was underwhelming to say the least. I would share certain aspects of my situation regarding treatment with her, multiple times, only for her to completely forget and make wildly unrealistic recommendations. Our one on one sessions never exceeded 20 minutes, and usually just consisted of her giving me a handout to complete (which we would never go over or discuss). It was very clear that she was not an addict, she lacked the fundamental understanding of addiction that really only comes with living through it. It's why the best addiction counselors are in recovery.Oh and also, they use a 12 panel drug test which does not even detect for fentanyl, the most deadly and prevalent drug in our communities, but Hazelden remains clueless as to whether their clients are drug free or not.If you have the option, check out Freedom Institute or Intercare.

From my time inpatient the the Betty Ford Center in CA to outpatient services at the Tribeca Location I have found everyone I ve dealt with (counselors, intake, Doctors, nurses techs, insurance advisors) to truly care and want to help me succeed. They walk the walk and talk the talk. This place has probably saved my life. Thanks HBFC!!!
