About Geisinger Community Medical Center

The Geisinger Behavioral Health Center Northeast is a specialized health facility for behavioral health care including drug and alcohol addiction. It’s an inpatient treatment center so you’ll live in the facility during your program.

At this treatment center they primarily offer addiction treatment for people who have co occurring disorders. That means you have drug or alcohol addiction as well as a mental health or behavioral health condition like depression or schizophrenia or PTSD.

What I find most interesting about this inpatient program is the varied and integrative approach they use. The therapists and specialists here will combine different treatment strategies to give you a one of a kind program. That includes tried and true methods like cognitive behavioral therapy and group counseling. It also includes more expressive and creative methods like art therapy and music therapy and even dance therapy.

It’s also important to note that they take an approach of trauma informed care. The team here understands that you may have trauma in your past and their treatment will be sensitive to this while also aiming to help you heal.

I m frequently at the cancer center as a patient. Usually it s okay but this last time I had a wicked phlebotomist draw my blood. She was so rude to me and the other staff. Her name was Tonie or something like that. She was in my face and so loud. Very disrespectful woman. May the lord take me soon.

The hospital is old and you're squeezed into a room you must share with another patient only one TV that you share, one bathroom that is so dirty and old and you share it with another patient it's just so old and dirty in every room and the will not allow you out of bed by yourself even though you can do it yourself no place to put anything and your visitors have no place to sit most of the staff is very good and helpful if the hospital itself did some renovations and up graded the patient rooms to singles it would be a great place the hospital patient rooms need updateing to small and dirty

Do yourself a favor when you're sick and don't go here. Not enough rooms in the Er so you are put on a bed in the hallway. Which might not seem to bad until your are there for 11 hrs! Don't know which nurse or Dr is for you because your see them once and then thats it! I was stopping EMT to ask them to find me a nurse. At this point I needed water and had nothing to drink since 11am or food .So go someplace else anywhere else but here!!!!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

I ve rated geisinger Scranton a one star - based on multiple interactions and personal experience. As an hcp myself, I am appalled at the lack of services, expertise, and minimally acceptable care standards. The geisinger system is dangerously broken and I implore the health care executives to prioritize the patient, who depend on your decisions and actions. I implore patients in Nepa to advocate for themselves and don t assume the local healthcare system is working for you.I can provide specific examples, if this review is published.

My mother was admitted after a fall that broke her hip..in the interim it was discovered that she has stage 4 bladder cancer. The care she has received has been below sub par..and the the care manager assigned to us is the laziest, no personality person I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The lack of response to helping us find a placement for my mother's end of life care is disgusting to say the least..In future...I wouldn't submit my DOG to the care at this place...despicable!! Unprofessional!!

Absolutely the worst experience ever. Took my girlfriend who was having seizures back to back they didn t run any tests and sent us home. Less than 24 hours later we were back and this time the RN in the ER said she was faking it. We ended up getting tests this time and got admitted to the 7th floor. They were no help either so we left and went to her PCP and found out she has a disk pressing against her spine causing them. They were rude, dismissive and should not be trusted to care for anyone.

My experiences in the ER and as an outpatient was wonderful. The nurses and doctors were great and knew their jobs. They have great communication skills to inform the family what is going on. I was treated well the best Hospital in the city.
