About Fulshear Treatment to Transition – The Ranch

Located in the small town of Needville, just south of Huston, Texas is Fulshear Treatment to Transition. Their recovery program includes a residential facility called The Ranch. They serve young adult women who need recovery support for a range of struggles including substance use disorder or behavioral health conditions.

Here, you’ll have access to a range of services that are offered through a thoughtfully planned curriculum. You’ll work with your care team and alongside peers who are navigating similar struggles as you develop recovery goals and personal growth goals to aid you in your recovery.

As you move through your treatment, you’ll engage in 12-step style programs that empower you to explore your struggles and triggers so that you can plan a stronger, clearer path forward. Supports may include relapse prevention planning, family counseling, individual and group therapy, life skills development, and other treatments.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

animal-therapy iconAnimal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Fitness Therapy

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Fulshear Ranch Academy is an experience you'll never forget. I had a therapist who helped in ways I thought no one could. I must say every therapist at Fulshear is amazing. They are highly qualified. The girls are very sweet, down to earth, and insightful and they want to see you grow. The staff are the sweetest people you'll ever meet and they genuinely care. If you are in need of help whether its for an addiction or you are depressed or maybe you struggle with isolation.. This is the place to go. I understand it's hard. No one wants to be away from their family but it's worth every moment you're there. It helps you to become more independent and more confident. When I first got there I had no self esteem and by the time I left I was beaming. They helped me realize there is a reason to live. If you are reading this I wish you the best of luck and I hope you choose Fulshear. Also please don't listen to negative reviews. My parents chose to ignore them and for it I am in a better place in my life.

We all work together to provide the best support possible and it s an honor to see young women + grow. I m a protective mother and I would send my children to Fulshear.

As an artist, I worked as an independent contractor for FTTT for four years. It is ONLY due to moving too far away that my role ceased.I want to share my experience and observations with you which make me grateful and thankful there is such a place for healing our young women who have in my words, failed to know how to navigate and find their true voice. There were eight art classes a month. So I got to know the clients. With lesson plans, subjects about artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Janaina Tschpe, Charles Burchfield. and more. We discussed the artists paths, some who struggled with depression and other difficulties. We painted, did drawings, wrote about artists, junk journaled, experimented with materials new to many of the clients, and learned proper care of their art room along with everything used in class. Most importantly, it was to give them a new or additional voice. While I am not an art therapist, the art in itself is therapeutic.I saw first-hand, one client who was terrified to make that first mark, another who wanted to know what they were allowed to draw or paint. They were encouraged to make a mark, there was not wrong way to do the project. I also saw these two clients blossom over months, gaining confidence. In some cases, a new calm about them. The FTTT program is one of the most dynamic I have ever witnessed.I learned about FTTT's process. The equine therapy, the dedication to not only healing the client, but the entire family. The thoughtfulness of the staff, the dedication to the clients was/is remarkable. I learned about so many disorders these clients struggled with, but it was the approach FTTT uses that is so encouraging. If I were to explain it, I would describe it like this:When clients come to FTTT, they have been through other programs but have not achieved success. What FTTT does is rip off that bandage and dig down to the core or root cause. Ten they build not only the client back up but the entire family. Some clients found their voice early and some took a long time. The beauty of the program is it is focused on the individual client. It is focused on teaching the clients self-care, self-awareness, and skills to achieve their voice, independence and confidence. So whether it is boundary issues, social que issues, depression, eating disorders, technology addiction, eating disorders, control issues, or other, this is absolutely the place to bring your loved one.I still stay in touch with them although I moved away. They do an amazing and difficult job. I am in awe of my 4-year experience while sharing art with the clients. I too, learned a lot!!!I recommend them highly to heal your family.Art exposes the creator to critique. In some cases, the

I am writing this review because in the past I didn t think it was worth it considering this place will continue to run when it shouldn t be allowed.. but now I have decided that people need to know what really happens Fulshear is a very corrupt business, I was at this establishment for about 14 months and I never graduated. I saw a lot of girls that also did not graduate because it is very difficult to graduate unless you are there and already don t have many issues..The ranch used to be nice until the bugs and rodents got worse.. I had to be moved out of my cottage because of the drastic bug infestation that went on.. I woke up and found bugs everywhere, in my bed, the shower, the sink, all over the floors and the windows. It was disgusting. This place has yellow water and cold water too. The groups on the ranch were okay, nothing special at all and were not taken seriously in the slightest. The therapy aspect was good but only because I had therapist who cared. She was the only one. Treatment team was a nightmare and if you were late then it didn t happen for another two weeks. The management were extremely rude and did not care about you. The chef was a creep and he often called people fat and managed what or how much we ate.The apartments were nice but only because fulshear didn t build them. The staff at the apartment did not care about you at all. They made it very clear and the treatment team and groups were even worse. I was moved into a separate apartment from everyone else and was there not allowed in other clients apartments or off campus. Lived there for the last three months of my stay where eventually was not allowed to graduate. After being discharged I was told that they would call the police on me if I came back for any reason. This has made me scared to even walk by considering I live so close to the facility. If you have read all of this thank you and there is more. Please don t bring your child here.. please please please. There are much better program than this one and it is not what it seems at all.

With everything that I have been through in my life and it is a lot. Before coming to Fulshear Treatment to Transition I didn't think I would make it past 18 and here I am living past 20. Now I do have to say that the work is not easy, and one of the most important things that I learned while being at Fulshear is that, I am not and never was broken, i was just lost, and being at Fulshear with all the staff and therapists and life skills people and nursing and everyone else but most importantly the horses helped me find who I really am, and how to never lose myself again. I also struggled with saving money and I could never budget, I also learned that at Fulshear, I learned a lot at Fulshear, I learned how to be more vulnerable, and how to let people in and trust them. I couldn't be more happier than who I am today. That horse in the picture was my most biggest supporter besides all the coaches, therapists, equine specialist, cooks, psychiatrists, nursing, dietitians, and many more. I cannot thank them enough for changing my life.

My therapist at FS put me down and led me down a toxic cycle of abuse. I am still recovering from the burden of doing therapy with her for almost a year more than a year after finishing Fulshear, This program believed that she was fit to share her destructive ideas openly in an environment where the women need to feel welcome and heard. This was a long time ago, Ill admit that but if Fulshear has the audicity to hire unprofessional people Ill put my money on it that they will do it again. Ugly greedy establishment that will make you feel like they are on your side again and again just to get access to your easy to manipulate young troubled and maybe developmentally delayed daughter, pick your choice.

I spent 7 months at Fulshear Ranch Academy from 2006-2007; from recent reviews, it seems as though it may have changed - I hope so.The 7 months I spent there were traumatic. I had come directly from spending 90+ days in a wilderness program in Utah that was one of the most eye-opening, challenging, and life-changing experiences I had yet to have. Tracy Shrunk, the director, came out to meet me and my dad, who was dropping me off at the ranch for what was supposed to be a year. $60k. She welcomed me with open arms, gave us a tour, comforted me and my dad, reassured me as he left, and as my dad pulled out of the driveway, turned into her real, awful self. She was cold, arrogant, crude, fake, and insensitive; I can t think of anything positive to say about her. Tracy did nothing but put me on edge. The staff at Fulshear, primarily Tracy, wasted no time before tearing down the self-esteem and confidence I had worked so hard to build in Utah. She called me arrogant, cocky, conceded, and assumed I was a mean girl. She played favorites and decided who she believed had their heart in the program and who didn t, and treated them accordingly. Tracy was a bully. When the staff decided to punish me and a few of my friends, they had us sleep outside, knock on the door of the house to get permission to use the bathroom, raise our hands to speak, cut off all phone/email privileges (which were only weekly to begin with, and often monitored), and I quickly decided to run away. I was 20 years old at the time, and Fulshear sent the police after us, saying we were on drugs because we had taken our sleep meds - melatonin. They proceeded to return to the ranch to tell the other girls that we would certainly die as a result of our actions. Fulshear did more harm than good; we were treated like criminals, with treatment plans based on assumptions, judgments, stereotypes, and essentially nothing clinical at all. Not one of the girls who I ve kept in touch with from FRA disagrees. I m grateful to have kept in touch with some of the girls from our time there together, and it is a comfort knowing there are others who shared in my experience and can relate.

Fulshear really helped me when I needed it the most. I was in a bad place mentally when I arrived at the ranch but with good guidance from the kind staff (and horses) I learned to love who I am and grow to be my best self.I was a client at Fulshear from November 2021 to December 2022; the year I spent at Fulshear was filled with many unique experiences, kind and fun clients and staff, and lifelong memories. I was able to make many achievements while there, such as getting a job, learning my worth, making good friends, and more. The ranch was a very fun time for me. Without my phone I was given the chance to bond with others easily and focus on myself and my therapy. There was never a dull moment on the ranch with the fun activities that they have during the day, and the night activities they would have (I personally loved going on stipend runs.)The apartment experience was also amazing, having gotten more freedom but still being in a supportive environment where making mistakes is OK. I completed my biggest goals there and felt more and more capable of myself. I will never forget any of it.The aftermath of Fulshear for me is amazing too. I was able to get a job at home and my relationship with my family now that I am back full time is SO much better. I would 100% recommend Fulshear to any young woman looking, the experience I had was a once in a lifetime and I am very happy with how it went.

I have worked at Fulshear Treatment to Transition for a little over 4 years. I started back in 2016 as a mentor in residential, then moved up to Assistant Supervisor, then Supervisor. I left Fulshear in 2018 after I had my second and third child and stayed home for a few years. I came back in 2021, and am now the Life Skills Director at Fulshear. I had many other opportunities I could have pursued when I returned to work, but I chose to come back to Fulshear. Working at Fulshear has been a life changing experience for me. Fulshear treats their employees with grace and humanity. I love the standards that we are held to as employees and the expectation, that we live what we teach our clients. We give and receive feedback just as our clients do to each other. We grow as people because we are given the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. We are key players in the connect, break, repair, connect cycle. As we navigate our relationships with co workers and clients, we have the opportunity to work through the repair process and become more attuned with each other.I have become a better teacher, guide, mentor, and supervisor because of my supervisors and other co workers investing in me, and giving me the feedback and support I needed to make changes a long the way. Our employees are held to high standards and we are constantly growing and changing based on the needs of our clients. We protect our culture of empathy, service, and trusting relationships. We honor diversity and we celebrate our differences. Every day, we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of our clients. I am passionate about the work that we do here. We are supported by a strong leadership team who are dedicated and committed to helping our clients succeed. I LOVE Fulshear. I am excited to come to work everyday and I truly love being with our clients...through the good days AND tough days. I always say, "The world needs Fulshear."
