clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

bed-front iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

car-building iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehab physical therapy is designed for patients who are in need of physical therapy due to an injury or serious medical condition but are independent enough to receive these services while living at home. The focus of outpatient physical therapy is helping people improve their mobility and quality of life, so they can get back to daily activities. Visits tend to be between 40 and 60 minutes, with additional exercises that a patient can do at home. An outpatient physical therapy clinic may also offer other services such as aquatic therapy, biofeedback, massage, and more.

book iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

Treatment provided at drug rehab in New Hampshire prepares individuals to handle life stressors without using substances. Participants get the tools and support they need to maintain lifelong recovery.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

file-medical iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

prescription-bottle-pill iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Electroconvulsive Therapy

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

If I could give them negative stars, I would. This is the worst hospital I've ever been to. They give horrible care and its sad to know you're just another number to them.

Awful experience. I came in with a migraine said it was a nine out of a ten pain level and they put me back in a room where the noise level was as loud as they come. They did nothing for thirty minutes. So I left. They only care about a pay check. Felt liked I got used and that everyone there was only a number. They don t help anyone without a lot of money involved. They spit on the poor. Pods in turn pays them for subpar services. What an awful place to be. For the person who came right after my post. I guess I didn t get graphic enough I puked outside the emergency room before and after being seen . People have bleed out and died while waiting for someone in this hospital. We re not supposed to have any monopolies. Guess the law has no place in this city

The ER visit I had took a long long time, which is understandable in any ER when your condition is deemed to not be an emergency. The nurses were attentive and efficient with making sure I was comfortable and performing the various tests ordered.I want to specifically praise Dr. Michael Saulle. He answered all my questions and at no point did I feel rushed out of the room. I went in thinking I was having cardiac arrest, but we determined the most likely explanation for my symptoms was...carpal tunnel! I've been struggling with my PCP to explain a mysterious swelling in my arm and the mystery itself made me anxious that something terribly wrong was going on inside of me. My family history of cardiac problems exacerbated this paranoia. Dr. Saulle skillfully removed those fears with thorough explanations and good humor. Even though I felt extremely silly for coming into the ER after that Dr. Saulle never once made me feel that way.Often in the healthcare industry there is a lack of concern for the individual patient, especially one in my situation. I get it - there are so many sick people in a hospital and many of them have life threatening ailments and I had objectively gone to the ER for joint pain. However it makes a massive difference in the patient's lives when health care professionals set a standard that they don't just heal bodies but provide comfort and calm fears (where appropriate).

A lot of the negative reviews here are tied to emergency room services. Ours is for billing. My wife mistakenly had the wrong lab tests ordered which caused a misdiagnosis and referral to additional specialists. Additionally, prior labs were sent to her father without consent, violating HIPAA laws. After receiving the labs and corroborating the results with another provider, we raised these issues to Concord Hospital. They apologized and said they would take care of the billing. A month later we received another bill. This time we spoke to several people in the billing department who advised they would speak to their managers and call us back to confirm the correct billing amount or if they would adjust the claim to waive. We never heard back and assumed (wrongly) that this was all set.Several months later we get a collections notice in the mail. The agency they used for collections took the bill and misread it, doubling the cost of service to quote us the wrong bill amount. The fact we have spoken to a handful of people about the incorrect bills, we have incurred costs via additional referrals when there was no need (since the lab test results wasn't supposed to have been ordered without specific instructions), and that this was sent to collections with no follow up call is incredibly disappointing. This is not how businesses should be operated. Additionally, the HIPAA violations are beyond frustrating.Do yourself a favor and go to Dartmouth Hitchcock or the Elliot Hospital.

I'd like to thank Dr Anderson and the OR staff for the excellent work they did to save my right thumb. I shredded it badly with a circular saw. I also want to thank the ER staff for all their due diligence to get me to the OR.Two months later the thumb has healed and I have about 95% use of it . Considering how mangled it was, they saved it.

On 7/27, I walked into the ER with pain, nausea, dehydration & not eating much for 3 days. I was pleasantly greeted, registered and then triage by a doctor. He decided I needed blood word and ultrasound. Within a short period of time, I was wheeled back for ultrasound. Technician was nice and funny. Back to waiting room. 1 1/2 hours later, blood drawn. Again, Technician was very sweet. Back to waiting room. Sat there, in tears, until 7:30pm. Walked back to ER area and put into a chair in the hallway and that is where I stayed. Meet my nurse Niki. She was competent. My husband called her a real fireball. Very sweet. Steve, PA, came to tell me my blood results and ordered more blood and CAT scan. In the mean time I got pain meds and nausea meds. Thank goodness. Getting the CAT scan was a long wait. After that, more waiting. Finally, at 1:00am, Niki said I could be discharged. I just looked at her with wide eyes. I then told her I hadn't spoken to a doctor about my results or what was wrong with me! After some back and forth, she found the doctor. Dr. Matthew Ruppel, presented himself. I asked him the question. He explained what they didn't find, but had absolutely no thoughts on what might be making me sick. All he said was contact your primary care doctor. I have never been to a hospital where they would discharge a patient without giving them any medical information. They wanted to send me home without speaking to doctor who could tell what was going on! I would have been clueless. To me, that is bordering on malpractice! I'm a visitor from out of state. Shame on you, NH. Very poor patient care. Never again.

If I could leave no stars I would. Transported in by ambulance to sit in excruciating pain for 6 hours. Brought back to sit for another 2 hours before a nurse came in. Blood work shows infection. Urinalysis shows major infection. Yet we are told nothing is wrong. Sat all night waiting an hour plus for meds. Watched a medic student walk by atleast 10 times while the call light was on doing nothing. Nurses sitting at their stations playing on their phones instead or answering call lights.Admitted to be told there's something wrong with my liver and now there's nothing wrong at all. My family and I are confused. The doctors are rude and can't be bothered with decent explanations. It has been nothing but excuses when asked to be transferred to a facility within the network of my doctors. We hope to discharge and go elsewhere for proper care and management of symptoms.Never again. This hospital is TERRIBLE.

Our surgeon was top notch. Parking was easy and our only wait was due to lack of cleaning staff turning recovery rooms.

I m sure much of the hospital is fine, but this review is strictly about the emergency department. If you ve got a broken bone or need immediate medical attention, they seem to be on top of that. If you have something that needs attention but isn t a priority, you re better off seeking an urgent care out if you want to be seen at all.I came in last year with my girlfriend, who arrived separately in an ambulance, only to spend close to 6 hours in the waiting room with no word from anyone. Eventually we talked with a receptionist to ask if her IV could be removed so we could leave, he couldn t have been more rude and told us it would be theft if we left. Buddy, it was coming out of our pocket regardless and that whole thing would be thrown out once we left.Similar experience recently, where we came in an ambulance and were sat in the waiting room for 3 hours along with a handful of others who were being ignored. A women was crying in frustration in having waited so long, an elderly women called her family to pick her up because they weren t seeing her, and yet another woman was LITERALLY laying on the floor throwing up into a bucket. In 3 hours only one person was brought out back. Not to pile on, but I even watched as the receptionist blatantly ignored a woman who wheeled over to her to ask a question. Didn t even look at her.I give it 2 stars because I believe the rest of the hospital staff are adequate, otherwise it doesn t deserve even 1.(I understand that staffing could very well be a reason for the delay, but the lack of communication and care for people who felt poorly enough that they came to the ER is disgraceful. Especially knowing how much it ll cost to be seen under the circumstances.)
