About Charlie’s Place Recovery Center

Cenikor Christi Treatment Center used to be called Charlie’s Place Recovery Center when it started in 1967. They’re in Corpus Christi, Texas, and they’ve helped more than 300,000 patients with their drug addictions. Some of their programs include detox, inpatient, outpatient and medication assisted treatment. They also have recovery housing services. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

The first thing that you’ll go through is detox. This means that a team of doctors, nurses, social workers and therapists help remove toxins from your body. It’s painful to go through withdrawal, but they’ll address this with medications. You’ll take measured doses to reduce cravings. You’ll also be supervised throughout the process even if you decide to undergo detox at home.

After detox you’ll transition to a care program. This can be an inpatient setting where you live at the facility or an outpatient setting where you’ll stay at home each night. Regardless of what you decide, you’ll still have access to their classes and groups on topics such as family relationships, financial health and security, and how to better deal with stress.

They have many amenities. There’s a lounge, dining area, outdoor sports facility and semi private rooms. Meals are included in the inpatient program but there are also snacks and vending machines available.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Designed to provide a safe environment where patients have the opportunity to attend evening groups twice weekly focused on gaining knowledge and insight into the disease of addiction and the recovery process while residing outside of the facility and continuing to function in their daily activities. Services can be utilized either as a step down from more intensive services (Detoxification or Residential) or admitted directly to this level of care.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs offer high-level care for clients as an increased risk of relapse, including those in early recovery, those with a strong history of relapse, and those experiencing a crisis. Intensive outpatient treatment typically requires clients to engage in nine to 20 hours of care weekly, with treatment modalities that combine psychotherapy and recovery education, and holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and animal therapy. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also common in alcohol and/or opioid recovery.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive addiction treatment while allowing you to return home each day. It can serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or as a step-down option. Depending on your needs, PHP treatment typically averages 90 days with a weekly requirement of 6-8 hours a day. PHP treatment offers a variety of therapeutic interventions such as individual counseling, group therapy, and psychoeducation. Oftentimes PHP treatment can be fully covered by insurance.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Detoxification is designed to safely eliminate the body of physical dependence by administering medication at regular intervals, and decreasing the amount given to minimize the discomfort of withdrawals. This program is medically supervised, giving patients the comfort of a skilled team to guide them to a substance free body. Detox patients are attended to by licensed professionals who will oversee the detoxification process. Patients are given a designated living suite, and receive 24-hour medical care during detoxification. After three days, and pending medical permission, detox patients can attend various group meetings and other activities to begin integration into other treatments programs at Charlie’s Place, and receive additional recovery information.
