About CAP of Downers Grove

CAP of Downers Grove, short for the Center for Addictive Problems, provides medication assisted treatment in Downers Grove, Illinois. The center also provides counseling services, and some support groups might be available. Additionally, patients have access to case management, crisis intervention and other health services. There are a few requirements that clients must meet in order to be a part of the program. Individuals need to be at least 18 years of age. The primary drug that the individual must be struggling with is opioids. Clients need to verify their dependence on opioids through a letter from a physician or previous treatment center or have an observable physical dependence such as withdrawal symptoms or track marks.

The two medications used for substance abuse treatment are methadone and Suboxone. For the methadone program, physicians will start patients on a small dosage and continually increase it until the patient isn’t experiencing cravings or withdrawal symptoms. During the course of treatment, clients will receive drug abuse education and counseling. For the Suboxone treatment program, clients will be assessed by a physician in order to determine the initial dose that will be administered.

The physician will monitor the patient’s tolerance to the medication for a few weeks until they believe that the patient is on a stable dose and the patient can continue taking the medication and visit the clinic on a monthly basis.

A unique thing about this facility is that it also provides additional health services. They offer flu shots, EKG and TB testing, and hepatitis C and HIV education.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.

12-step icon12-Step

Participants in 12 step programs focus on emotional, psychological, and spiritual growth as the foundation for long-term sobriety. They engage in regular 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round, in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring from a self-selected sponsor. Though the 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles, religious affiliation isn't required. Specialized formats are available, including programs for seniors, teens, and families.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Living in a sober living home in Illinois is a lot like living in a traditional home. Everyone must contribute to household chores and maintenance. All residents must work and pay rent. Individuals can mostly come and go as they please, but they must be home before curfew. Most men's and women's sober living homes also host house meetings where they resolve disputes, assign responsibilities, and welcome new residents.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Loved ones can utilize a drug intervention in Illinois to help with addressing a family member's problematic substance use. The goal of the intervention is to educate the individual about the negative effects of their substance use and encourage them to accept professional treatment. Intervention services can help families initiate this conversation and plan appropriate follow-up care, such as inpatient or outpatient rehab.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

During one on one therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction, you and your therapist work collaboratively to develop effective relapse prevention plans and improve your self awareness. This helps address your specific needs, including the effectiveness of several evidence based treatment modalities that may work best for you.

family iconFamily Therapy

Family therapy helps to rebuild trust and strengthen relationships that have been affected by addiction. Therapists use guided interventions to help families improve their interactions and address underlying issues that impact their relationships. This helps create a supportive atmosphere for the recovery process.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills training in Illinois gives you the tools you need to meet daily demands. These fall into three main categories: personal skills, interpersonal skills, and cognitive skills. While in rehab, you'll work on each of these areas as part of your recovery treatment.

I have a family member who has been using this place for decades and is still on same very high dose of methadone. Not the place to take a family member you wish to see recover. They will keep them dosed for the rest of their lives so they keep getting their money. Shame on them.

Been going here for a very long time and while it's not perfect it is light years ahead of the other clinics in the area.

CAP is a clean, discreet clinic. If you go early your wait is minimal unless the prior day was a holiday. Parking is available. They really need to start reinforcing parking/drop-off protocols, again. Aside from the lazy newbs drawing too much attention by double parking, stopping in the middle of the street and pulling U-turns it's a really good clinic. I've recommended it to family & friends. If you need help pls give then a call. George is the best counselor and Marie is incredibly caring. She's never been my counselor but I've seen a patient walk in after losing his girlfriend and Marie immediately grabbed someone to take her place and bought him back into her office. I believe he was no longer a patient yet he got help.I've just hit the 9yr clean mark at CAP. After going through 3 counselors I finally found one dedicated to his job. Things are better. I hate the Methadone but I'm alive and stable. Bumped to 4 stars. My original review is below, unedited.I thought this was going to be the place where I finally was freed from my painkiller problem. 23 months later I'm taking more Methadone than the equivalent dose of pain medication that I went there to get off of. This is partly my fault, for not pushing them more, but CAP didn't deliver on the programs and assistance mentioned in the initial assessment. I'll soon be homeless so CAP had better help me b4 I'm frozen in my cardboard box.

Really great methadone clinic, at 60$ a week its hard to beat. In my opinion Methadone should only be sought out if you're a repeated relapser over a period of years. The counselors kind are always in and out but the staff really cares. To all the people saying this place is worse than a drug dealer really need a reality check. I wouldn't listen to the people talking about money, I've never had that feeling. They didn't kick out anyone during the pandemic, no matter how much money you owe. It seems a lot of people here have problems with taking responsibility for themselves.
