About Bowen Health Clinic

What you can expect from the treatment here will depend on you and what you need for recovery. Your treatment plan will be personalized, but it will mostly include individual counseling and group therapy. This way, you can talk through the specific issues that impact your addiction in individual therapy, and during group therapy you benefit from the support of your peers while working through the shared challenges of recovery.

Along with therapy they can also offer medication assisted treatment in some cases. This is where they give you medications that reduce your withdrawal symptoms and your cravings for drugs or alcohol by basically making your body think it’s getting drugs or alcohol without the high.

Ultimately this treatment center will get you the level of care you need for your recovery, and if they don’t provide what you need they’ll connect you to other resources. For example, they can link you with an inpatient detox center if you need detox before you start outpatient treatment. Plus they have intensive outpatient programs where you have a heavy schedule of addiction treatment while still living at home.

This treatment center also has programs for teens. You don’t find this at every outpatient center, but if you have a teenager who struggles with addiction, they may be able to get the treatment they need here too.

Their generic copy and pasted generic response to my comment proves my point event further. I was referred to them by the school. I told them I was uncomfortable with their services because I used to work their and I’m familiar with their pushy tactics when someone has Medicaid (my daughter was adopted from foster care, so she qualifies for a lot of billable hours). They assured me they have changed since I worked there and they were getting a skills coach that only works in the schools. Sure enough, they gave her a skills coach who has never been in the high school and was planning on working with her after school. I told them she already has a behavior consultant for after school and we do not physically have time for all of these appointments and the only reason I agreed to a skills coach in the school is to comply with the schools request. It appears their pushy tactics and lack of “patient centered” care has not changed. If you have a foster child or a child who has Medicaid, you are nothing more than billable hours to them. To be clear, this is not a reflection on the skills coach. The skills coach is wonderful and my daughter loves her. This has everything to do with how their administration runs their services.

Back in early 2023 when I went to the CC location when they were still by the court house it was nice. But I went in the beginning of this year to see psychiatrist just because my ex suggested me to. The first appointment I felt very dismissed. He was speaking more for me than I could. He was was not hearing me out whatsoever. He was saying I had PTSD symptoms but never diagnosed me with it. Well never told me he did. The thing is I don’t have PTSD, and I definitely don’t have the symptoms. I’d be aware if I did and I looked it up online and it does not apply to me at all. He put me on medication I never really cared for but after a few days I told him I do not want this it makes me sick and makes me have anxiety. Yes I was taking it accordingly. Then I went back in and he put me on something else after I told him I was not all that interested and I tried to give it a try and it didn’t work only made me sick yet and anxious yet again. This time I did not reach back out, I figured I’ll go back to my last “follow up” appointment that’s scheduled. Tell him I’m not interested and I’m good without medication. Well I show back up and we’re talking and he put me back on the first medication yet again. I did not take it whatsoever. I actually end up just throwing it away. I was fed up with him for not listening and throwing meds at me like it was some joke. I was fine and I was in therapy. Now fast forward to today I am very healthy and have scored 0 on depression and anxiety since. I’m trying to make a change in my life and join the Army NG. Well I was looking through my Bowen health records and all of my visits and what we talked about. Until I got up to this psychiatrist. I was only aware of my depression and anxiety because something I did feel and experience. But he diagnosed me with PTSD and said I had all the symptoms. I don’t. In fact I know what I told him. If I had PTSD I’d be still having the issue today. But it was just bad anxiety from a ex parter than I’m no longer with and I thought about it so much I’d have nightmares and just break down about it. I feel fine now. I don’t have any of these things these past 4 months, almost 5. Now not only did he mess up my diagnosis but he put words in my mouth and proceed to write it down to make me look awful. From self harm and a suicide attempt from 15 years old, made it seem fairly recent. To messing up my relationship status. To messing up my job. Messing up situations I told him and making it seem awful. All of it. Now this affects me. Going to the military has always been a dream of mine and I wouldn’t put myself in that situation if I knew I was not fit for it. I know I am and I think it’ll be great for me. But after seeing I got misdiagnosed with ptsd and never was told and mixed all my words up. Might as well kiss that opportunity goodbye. My heart is crushed, absolutely crushed because I been working my butt off to go and get all my waivers and do everything I can do. To find out at the end that this is what I get. PTSD is a automatic disqualification. A automatic disqualification to something I don’t even have and was not even aware they put that down in the first place. So I went months being unaware. No one told me at the Bowen center. At all. I have balled my eyes out all day since I found out. As well left work early because I was so hurt. This is literally a law suit right here. I can’t believe out of anyone this happened to me. I’m still waiting to hear back and I doubt I will because for 3 hours I kept calling and asking. I told I’d have a update before 5 pm on July 2nd, 2025. But nope. This is ridiculous. Never would I ever trust the Bowen center again.

Accepted Insurance

Bowen Health Clinic works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

When you receive 24-hour clinical care in Indiana, you'll be under constant supervision from highly trained medical staff. Nurses, doctors, and addiction specialists provide medications and other treatment to address withdrawal symptoms and any additional medical needs. Common medications that are prescribed include valium and Librium to relieve alcohol withdrawal, and anti-depressants to relieve cocaine withdrawal. For opioid abuse, doctors may prescribe methadone or naltrexone to manage cravings and clonidine to treat high blood pressure.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

When removing addictive substances from your body under the care of licensed medical professionals, the process is called medically assisted detox. Once you've become physically dependent on substances like alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines, quitting can be uncomfortable or even dangerous. To minimize risks to your health and overall discomfort, a team of medical professionals monitors you 24/7 and provides medications if necessary (like Suboxone or methadone) to ease potential symptoms of withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Persons who require high-level support but who do not wish to leave their homes or communities may enroll in an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Clients typically commit to a minimum of nine treatment hours across three therapeutic sessions per week, but many programs offer up to 20 hours of care weekly. Most intensive outpatient rehabs provide a combination of psychotherapy, recovery education, and holistic care. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is widely available for those in alcohol or opioid recovery.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Indiana provides substance abuse treatment programs for individuals with substance use disorders. With a range of care levels, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs, you'll be able to find the right treatment for you. Programs usually include a substance abuse evaluation, evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and group therapy address substance abuse and enhance coping strategies. By offering personalized treatment plans and a supportive environment, these programs strengthen your ability to maintain your recovery.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
teen-program thumbnail image

Teen Program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing aims to stimulate the client's personal motivation and commitment to change. Rather than receive advice and warnings from the therapist, the client is given the opportunity to share their concerns and reach their own conclusions.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

To function properly, your body must have nutritional balance. Addiction throws off this balance by depleting your body of essential nutrients. Nutrition therapy aims to restore this balance by providing a healthy diet that supports healing and long term sobriety.

The staff is rude, and the service is mediocre! There are a few members of it that I'd say have an idea of what they are doing, the rest are just watching and judging you.
