About Blue Valley Behavioral Health

Blue Valley Behavioral Health in Lincoln, Nebraska specializes in integrated care for individuals with mental health and substance abuse struggles. They provide a variety of outpatient services that cater to different mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, PTSD as well as more severe disorders like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The clinic offers a variety of individual and group therapy sessions, all adapted to the specific needs. The well known fact about this is the addition of a strengths based framework as opposed to just treating symptoms. This approach is instrumental in guiding people on the journey of handling their mental health throughout life.

Blue Valley has a holistic program for addiction recovery in its substance abuse disorder program. Both outpatient and intensive outpatient services cater to people who need ongoing help but do not necessitate living in a treatment center. This way, clients can receive treatment and still attend work or honor family responsibilities. Outpatient programs rely on recurring therapy sessions with individual and group counseling. These sessions help attendees to target substance use and better understand the emotional, environmental or health factors that might keep you addicted to substances like alcohol.

Blue Valley’s IOP services are available for those who require a higher level of structured support and services are offered in the confines of the Blue Valley outpatient clinic, or their own home. Evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) are also used to help clients understand the underlying causes of their addiction, confront them and develop tools for overcoming it.

Blue Valley takes relapse prevention very seriously. They understand that recovery does not stop once treatment is over and therefore provide continuous support to the individuals to keep them sober. Part of this support is having regular check ins with counselors, along with access to community support groups.

I was assured multiple times that my insurance was in Network. I also questioned it after I received my first bill as it had gone to deductible. We realized my insurance number was old in the system the next visit. Had it resubmitted. I had left two messages about this with no call back. Then yesterday found out they were out of network, after being reassured multiple times that they were IN NETWORK with my specific plan. Spoke to billing and they would not make it right. Only would give a slight discount based on Income and would have to take off work to come in and fill out a form, instead of charging as if we were in Network. Very frustrating.

We re sorry to hear about your frustration and apologize for any sort of misunderstanding. We can only ever confirm whether we are contracted with a particular insurance company in general (BCBS, United Healthcare, etc.), and cannot promise how any individual s specific plan will handle claims. There is a huge variety of differently structured plans out there, some with limited networks, and we try to explain that it is the client s responsibility to contact their own insurance provider for any questions about their coverage (such as what services or providers are covered in their specific plan, whether services will have a copay or go to deductible, etc.). While our staff are diligent about returning calls, it s often difficult to get ahold of people with understandably busy schedules. Financially, we work with individuals as much as we possibly can without deviating from proper billing procedures, including offering significantly reduced fees based on income eligibility. You re welcome to contact the front desk to problem-solve how/when to complete any paperwork.

Lisa young is a terrible med manager, she gets angry and scowls whenever you don't just shove whatever pills she wants you to take. With Lisa Young, you cannot advocate for yourself without being yelled at, condescending. She said to me " YOURE NOT A DOCTOR, I AM" (she's not, she's a APRN/PA closer to a nurse) I PRESCRIBE MEDICATION YOU DON'T!" i said; Lisa I'm trying to work with you as a patient and as a patient I have the right to advocate for myself. She did not like that AT ALL. All this was over me just asking about medication increase. If you don't want your mental health worse than when you had tried to find help, don't see this unhinged woman.

Accepted Insurance

Blue Valley Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. This assessment and treatment program is provided for adult and children who come to the center for general mental health issues. Services are provided in the facility offices. Sessions are 50 minutes and usually occur every one to two weeks. As progress occurs, sessions become less frequent. Treatment groups and Psychological Evaluations are also available in this program.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This program is offered to adult clients who have recently completed treatment in the IOP, residential setting or require treatment in a group based environment. This treatment group occurs on a weekly basis.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During drug rehab in Nebraska, you'll participate in therapies that address the many issues that contribute to addiction. Treatment includes physical, mental, emotional, and relational aspects. These methods provide the tools you need to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I have been going to Blue Valley for 2 years now. There are many reasons why I recommend BVBH to people. The receptionists are understanding and personable. The therapists that I have worked with are great listeners and willing to be flexible in their scheduling to meet my needs. The environment is calm and peaceful and I feel like I am seen as an individual, not just another client.

I had a 1:45 med appointment today with Lisa and I got to the office 4 minutes late I got there at 1:49 and she refused to see me and said that I needed to reschedule for another time I'm on medications and I'm supposed to go without because I was 4 minutes late and there are times I've sat in there and waited 15 minutes past my appointment time for her but I'm 4 minutes late and she tells me I have to reschedule I find that very unprofessional. I work for a living I have a job I have to take time off work to drive all the way across town for an appointment and I can't help how traffic is going to be or anything else and she wants me to go without my meds because I'm 4 minutes late thank God I'm not suicidal or homicidal I should be homicidal but I'm not well maybe I am I don't know I'm too screwed up in the head right now to know because the meds I need to be on she took me off of and she put me on meds that I don't need to be on. At my last appointment with her I don't believe she heard a word I said because when she prescribed me the medications that she prescribed me I told her I've been on them before and they do not work and I also told her that I don't have what those medications are there to be treated for I've never been diagnosed with what the meds she gave me were for and I don't believe she listens to you I don't think I think that she thinks she has an attitude that she's better than you and she knows more than you and it doesn't matter what you say she's going to give you what she wants how she wants and I don't think that that's right I think that nurse practitioner psychiatrist whatever they all need to hear what we have to say because we know better than them what's going on in our heads so for med management I'd recommend going somewhere else

Response from the owner1 year ago
We're sorry to hear about the difficulty you had with making your appointment. We hope through further conversations with our staff, that you received some insight into the workflows and requirements on our side and were assured that we would not put any current client at risk of running out of their medications as long as they are in compliance. Please feel free to reschedule your appointment to appropriately communicate your current needs in a manner that can bring a better resolution.
