About Birmingham Recovery Center

Located in Birmingham, Alabama, Birmingham Recovery Center provides alcohol and drug rehab services to men and women. They offer detox, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient treatment, and telehealth services.

This program is for those who want to participate in medically supervised detox programming. Clients are overseen by supervised medical staff who begin the treatment with an assessment. After clients are stabilized, they follow a step-down treatment plan.

This is a highly structured outpatient program. Clients meet during the day to engage in individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and psycho-educational classes.

A step down from partial hospitalization, the PHP involves treatment three days per week for several hours at a time. Individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy are offered. Clients may continue to engage in psychoeducational classes.

This program offers individual therapy and group therapy at regular intervals. The key focus is on maintaining recovery and refraining from using substances.

BRC has changed my life forever. I am so thankful my husband stumbled across their website and urged me to call. I just graduated after 12 weeks of treatment and can honestly say I am going to miss being there every day. The care is the absolute best. You will attend group sessions, weekly individual therapy appointments, and medical appointments to guide you step by step through the difficult road of recovery. I finally found a place I felt truly understood and validated every day. I ve learned invaluable life skills and coping mechanisms that have allowed me to remain sober. Birmingham Recovery Center brought light back into our family s lives after our son s years of struggling with addiction. He tried so hard to fight the battle on his own but thankfully, he realized the need for help and again thankfully, we were referred to BRC. The staff were so supportive and we wish to extend our profuse appreciation. I do not know all their names to thank them individually, but I did come to know his counselor Thomas and will always be grateful for his work with our son. He developed a supportive relationship which gave our son the confidence and trust to be open and honest in treatment therapy. BRC has been a turning point in our lives..

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are designed for clients in early recovery and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients in IOP attend outpatient therapy sessions for a minimum of nine hours per week but clients may receive as many as 20 hours of IOP treatment weekly. Sessions generally occur in 3-5 hour blocks, in which time clients engage in some combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), psychotherapy, recovery skills training, or complementary care.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides comprehensive treatment to those who do not require 24/7 monitoring and offers a higher level of care than outpatient programs. Often referred to as "day treatment" patients typically attend sessions a minimum of 20 hours weekly, allowing clients to return home each day. PHP treatment is often covered by insurance and can provide daily therapeutic sessions and services such as relapse prevention and medication management.

Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy provides men and women in Alabama a supportive environment where they can share experiences, build connections, and receive encouragement from their peers who are facing similar challenges with drug addiction and co occurring mental health conditions.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction involves one on one sessions with a therapist to address the psychological and behavioral aspects of addiction. Your therapist may use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or Motivational Interviewing to help you develop coping strategies and work towards long term sobriety.

Birmingham Recovery Center (BRC) has been a blessing to me beyond what I can even put into words. Aside from my family I can honestly say that without BRC, the wonderful staff, and peers in recovery there, I would not be where I am today. I truly owe my life to BRC. When I was truly at my lowest I knew that I needed help but had no clue where to turn. I knew no one who had substance use disorder and nothing of any treatment centers or anything else that could help. My wife & I began to do some research on our own and we both came to the conclusion separately, due to what we heard & also from past Google reviews, that BRC might be a place to try. I mustered all of the courage & energy I had left & called & scheduled a session to swing by, where they talked to me for a short amount of time to ask what was going on. I truly felt the person on the other end of the phone cared about what I had to say. Then when I came in to do my intake I met Thomas and man what a wild and crazy but also a breath of fresh air he was. He TRULY understood what I was going through and truly cared what I had to say. I m pretty sure I hold the record for the longest intake session but that is probably due to how long winded I am (which you will see in this review) and also a testament to Thomas taking his time and making me feel like I could tell him anything. From the moment I stepped into the building it felt absolutely incredible. There is something really special that I can t quite put my finger on about BRC but the closest thing I can think of is it is a truly caring staff who most if not all are also in active recovery, & also peers in recovery that actually take it seriously yet know how to make the work fun at the same time. The medical staff has been fantastic, explaining medications & why we think & act the way we do from a medical standpoint but also as a person who has been through very similar things from an addiction standpoint. I ended up in the Evening IOP group, since I was still working during the day, which is approximately 10 hours total a week spread between Monday, Wednesday, & Thursdays weekly. They do have a higher level of care that you might be recommended to which is 9-3 daily Monday through Friday. BRC really works to help you do the work & be able to remain at home/work while you go through treatment. The group sessions were led by Thomas who is a licensed therapist. They teach CBT and DBT skills as well as other coping mechanisms & also have time each night for group processing where you get the opportunity to open up about your experiences, if you want, & have the therapist & group appropriately give you feedback on how they dealt with similar issues in their lives. The group was so great that judgement was never an issue but I cannot stress enough how much BRC emphasized the judgement free ability to share anything & I mean ANYTHING you have experienced & either share it just to get it off your chest or to hear others experiences which in turn give you the ability to use their experiences to approach the issues going on in your life. At first I was scared & didn t want to open up in group & not even sure if I had a substance use issue but by the end I was trying to find (healthy) ways to extend my stay & even now I m writing this review in their parking lot because being here just feels so comfortable & I don t want to leave. Leah my individual therapist was an incredible match for me & I attribute her & Thomas with showing me how to do the hard work and for honestly saving my life. They both have such a heart for people it is amazing. Leah taught me different perspectives of things & many things I had never considered before. I now have incredible coping skills and a mindset that I never thought was achievable. I never thought I would say it but life truly is better in recovery & sober. Birmingham is INCREDIBLY lucky to have BRC and I would HIGHLY recommend anyone struggling with alcohol or other substances just to check it out. They truly care, are super chill, & won t force anything on you.

I cannot say enough good things about BRC, the staff, and everyone I met there. It may be hard to believe, but I was sad to finish treatment because of how much value they brought to my life. This place allowed me to accomplish everything I wanted and more. I left filled with love, gratitude, and confidence that I didn t think was possible. I m now able to be present and handle life as it comes at me. My life is forever changed, and I will always trace this new beginning back to BRC

I can not say more wonderful things about BRC. From the therapists to the front desk staff, they are all amazing people who truly care about helping someone who is struggling. I read the reviews before going to BRC and everyone had amazing things to say, and now I know why. I arrived at BRC in my lowest point, I had pretty much given up on my life, and I felt like I was never going to get better. I did not have many options, and I felt like my life was never going to go up from there. I have never been to treatment, so I did not know what to expect. The staff understood this and were extremely patient and understanding. They work with different types of therapy methods and give you an individual therapist who works with you on your specific needs. My individual therapist saved me and gave me the space to heal in a healthy way. I am extremely grateful. The one thing I could suggest would be to maybe have different diversity programs. I never felt out of place or different. I just wondered if there were different programs, like a Spanish program since I am a Spanish speaker, I wonder what that would look like. That would be my only suggestion. Overall, I am so grateful to BRC and all the staff for helping me get my life back together. Thanks to BRC, today I have a steady job, a great relationship with my family, and I am finally free from substances. I truly got my life back, and I couldn t be more grateful to BRC for working with me for the past 4 months to get me to where I am today.

I thought my life was ruined and I had no hope.. I was a drug addict and I was stuck in an endless cycle that I thought I would never be able to break.. BRC gave me a second chance and I was treated with compassion and respect! The staff truly care and that is apparent by their demeanor. They know how to help and do everything in their power to help! The accountability was perfect and helped me create structure in my life! They allow clients to give eachother feedback during groups which helped me to reflect on difficult situations I had been through and helped me to use my previous mistakes to help others in their recovery journey! I would most definitely recommend BRC!!!

I went to this place because I was really seeking help for my addiction. I have never felt so out of place in my life. There is not one person of color there and all they seem to care about is whether my insurance was going to pay them or not. Do. NOT recommend if you aren t white or from a family with deep pockets
