About Perimeter Beacon Behavioral Hospital

Beacon Children's Hospital is a behavioral healthcare and addiction treatment provider in Luverne, Alabama. Services also include valuable community resources, primary medical care, crisis stabilization, and community referrals.

Beacon Children’s Hospital offers several addiction programs and services, including mental health assessment, diagnosis, counseling, inpatient dual diagnosis treatment, outpatient treatment, and medication management.

These assessments help staff determine the severity of addiction and whether a patient has any co-occurring mental health disorders. Following an assessment, the clinical team creates an individualized treatment plan and supports the patientā€™s recovery with individual and group counseling.

Residential dual diagnosis treatment uses evidence-based practices to treat addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions. Available for adolescents and adults, treatment begins with a mental health assessment and development of an individualized plan of care. Patients may attend individual and group therapy, as well as support meetings.

An assessment with the on-site psychiatrists can help to determine if medication may be supportive in the rehabilitation process. Patients meet with a psychiatrist several times for an assessment, diagnosis, and creation of a treatment plan. During treatment, patients meet with a psychiatrist at several intervals to determine progress and adjust medication as deemed necessary.

I stayed at beacon in late October of 2023. I do not understand how this place is still up and running. Starting off with the whole school system. They claim to get in contact with your school but if you have issues doing your work on the computer that is locked down on almost every academic website, you are on your own. Then starting with the doctors. I personally had Dr. Shah. I cannot possibly explain the amount of dislike I possess for this man. The first appointment with him, he FaceTimed me from some beach house looking place and just stated my trauma to me like he was trying to get a reaction out of me. And then put me on a medication that gave me tremors in my hands, and when I reported the issue to the staff, Dr Shah doubled the dosage and caused a full Grand Mal seizure. This is something that never happened before but something I still have to fight to this day, 10 months later. ( I ve read another review from a user named yebbi that mentioned the girl with a seizure , so hi that would be me). Some of the techs were really nice but most of the nursing staff did not listen to anything you had to say. Highly would not recommend sending your children here if you actually care for them. But hey, the chocolate lasagna was delicious so if you have that recipe then kindly send it my way

Do not send your children here. They lied about diagnosis. PLEASE do not consent to medications without reviewing medical records and diagnosis. I was told one thing over the phone and completely different diagnosis sent home. I failed my child and so did these so called medical professionals. I m so ashamed.

The food was horrible, it was not clean. The showers were small and the shampoo makes your hair fall out. Not a whole lot of therapy, mostly hanging out with the rest of crazies.

Accepted Insurance

Perimeter Beacon Behavioral Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Rehab treatment in Alabama often involves motivational interviewing (MI). This is an evidence based approach that helps you discover your own interest in change. You'll decide for yourself what next steps you're willing to commit to in order to reach your goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During family therapy, you'll address the impact that addiction has had on the family unit. Family therapy fosters open communication between members to help resolve conflicts and create a supportive environment. This helps to improve relationships and therefore aids in the recovery process.

Proper nutrition increases comfort levels during detox and supports healing during drug rehab in Alabama. Nutrition therapy provides this crucial, balanced nourishment and helps you develop skills for long term health throughout recovery.

I was here from late October to early November and while I did make progress and really appreciated two staff members, there was one staff who did not treat us fairly. I watched her violently "restrain" a barely verbal autistic boy who was about 5 years old, and also dealt with her comments about how she got to go home to her king size bed at the end of the day and that we should pray away our mental illness. While this facility isn't the worst in the area, it needs to be looked into. There were times where staff argued In front of us and it was an incredibly toxic environment. It wasn't clean, it's claustrophobic and miserable. Medication was pushed and I remember a girl having a seizure due to ignored symptoms. When you had panic attacks from abruptly being admitted, they treated you like a child and told you to go sit away and breathe.

We recently had the most horrible experience at this Hospital. Parents, I understand our options are so limited but please, I urge you to ask MANY questions. Do not consent to everything and listen to your kids!My son went for symptoms of ptsd after losing 3 family members and our family cat within 2 months. He was started on antipsychotics within hours of him arriving. This was my first worry because originally they told me they do not "push pills". They also took him off of his ADHD medicine to "evaluate him" but on his first day, he was sent to "the white room" or solitary 3 times, for not doing his work! Knowing that he needs medication to focus. One of the nurses even punched him in the chest while putting him in this room. I waited for my scheduled family session to discuss this with the faculty because I didn't want to jump to conclusions. My fears were true, the counselor confirmed that my son was in fact taken and for the exact reasons she told me. She said that she felt it was excessive and she even told the nurse that it was excessive. She also got my son out of that room herself one of the times. The facility refused to let me speak to the so called Dr who was so quick to prescribe my son medications because "he's busy" and he only comes to the facility on Tuesdays. My son arrived Tuesday night so I asked how the Dr was able to diagnose my son with 2 different disorders and prescribe medicine if he had never even met him? They said that it was based on my answers to the intake questions!!! This Dr needs his license taken away like yesterday!!!!! It was absolutely insane. They never contacted me about my son being put in this room and they had told me that they only send them to the room under extreme circumstances if the kids are uncontrollable and I asked if I would be notified and they told me they would call me anytime it had to be used! Then when I got there they refused to provide me with ANY of the consent forms that they had me verbally consent to. They got so mad when I asked for copies they refused to speak to me anymore. How is this whole place not shut down???? My kid needed some trauma therapy. Not additional trauma with some added abuse.

I went here not too long ago back in August and I would never go back. First and for most I have bad anxiety and the only thing they did to stop it was give me medicine after I complained about it giving me attacks. I was sitting down having a panic attack in the chair in front of the desk where we make phone calls and I overheard all the doctors having conversations about their patients and even laughing while calling some crazy. They wouldn t let me call my mom the first 24 hours, which made my anxiety attack worse. They do not give you hair brushes, and one of the showers were so small you had to bend down in able to wash ur entire body. Also one of the ladies were extremely rude to me, she lied to my face and told me it wasn t up to my mom to take me home and that it was up to my therapist. I also remember these two girls telling me it would be hell there. Thankfully my mom listened to me and picked me up immediately after I told her what was going on. (You can pick you kid up, the people do not decide.) place looked dirty when you actually make it past the area where you get dropped off and the food was horrible.

My daughter made incredible progress here! She loved her counselors and nurses! She often talks about her experiences there and how the staff looked at her as if she was their only patient. She raved about the food (I know that is not at the forefront of a parents mind when looking for an inpatient center, but you certainly heal better when you re well fed). She loved the activities and the counseling sessions. Highly recommend!

I was there when I was 17, half the staff was great, half wasn t, you really just need to find you people in there. even with bipolar and anxiety, they tried to help me. the only person I felt that got me was Campbell. well at least he tried to understand. Everything was weird in there tho, I felt like stranger things in those rooms, I hated being separated because people got along. But nevertheless, it was decent enough. But I wouldn t go back and I m glad I can say I m strong enough to where I don t have to go back.

i went here to just get my meds changed bc i didn t have a psychiatrist outpatient yet and i need them changed immediately and they still kept me for two straight weeks when they told me i would only be there for less then a week since it was just med changes. my hair is a thick and curly texture NOT EVEN coily and i couldn t brush my hair at all bc all they give you is a plastic cheap hair brush that only work on straight hair so if you want to be going crazy ab a huge rats nest in ur hair then i definitely recommend but seriously where is the alternatives for people with textured hair? i may be crazy but i still don t want my hair all nasty.
