About Wisdom Traditions Counseling Services LLC

Alaska Wisdom Traditions Recovery is an addiction treatment center that provides clients with drug and alcohol substance abuse treatment in the Anchorage, Alaska, area. This rehab center places an emphasis on holistic and individualized care to help individuals with their recovery journey.

Those attending this addiction treatment center will receive a balanced treatment plan from an experienced interdisciplinary team when enrolled in one of the below substance abuse treatment programs on offer:

The adolescent substance abuse program provides rehab care for those below the age of 18. Youth enrolled in this program will have access to individual counseling and family sessions. In addition, part of this program includes an outpatient (OP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP).

The intensive outpatient program requires six hours of commitment to family therapy, group and individual counseling, and case management weekly. The outpatient program will also involve these elements, but it has a shorter commitment level required.

Those requiring flexibility during their recovery period can attend the adult intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) at this rehab center. This IOP offers daytime and evening group and individual counseling sessions to ensure each individual has a chance at receiving substance abuse services.

During this drug and alcohol addiction, IOP individuals can expect to be attended to by clinical staff who have the knowledge needed to offer addiction education, skills development, and focused therapies.

The medication-assisted treatment program offered at this addiction treatment center provides clients with FDA-approved medications. These medications are provided in conjunction with behavioral therapies and counseling to ensure a whole-patient approach is achieved. Typically patients will have a choice between Vivitrol, Naltrexone, and Suboxone to help them recover.

Edit to add: I had a negative review here, but was asked to remove it while a patient so I changed it to this. I highly recommend against them. Now I m no longer with them. I recommend Bridges Counseling Center.I'm seen at Wisdom Traditions frequently and they have staff that seem to want you to feel as well as you can. Sometimes things can move a little slowly due to lack of staff answering phones, but the people here are good at what they do and want you to feel better.

Accepted Insurance

Wisdom Traditions Counseling Services LLC works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program receive robust wraparound care designed to evolve with the clients' changing needs. The client's case manager, healthcare providers, and addiction recovery team partner with the client to develop a rehab aftercare plan that supports the client's long-term recovery and meets their unique goals. Drug rehab aftercare often encompasses a wide variety of services, such as peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides intensive care for those who don't require 24-hour care and can serve as a step down from residential programming. PHP treatments typically include behavioral therapies, relapse prevention, and medication management. individual therapy, group counseling, family involvement, educational sessions, and skill-building activities. PHP treatment is often covered by insurance and typically requires a weekly minimum of 20 hours. Depending on your needs, the duration of a partial hospitalization program can last for 90 days.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The process of ridding your body of addictive substances under the 24/7 medical supervision is known and medically assisted detox. In an inpatient setting, a team of licensed medical professionals may include doctors, nurses, therapists, and clinical experts. The team will monitor the physical effects of withdrawal and help keep you as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the process.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During drug rehab in Alaska, you'll receive a combination of medical and psychotherapeutic treatments that are designed to treat drug dependency. The goal of drug rehab is to break this dependency and help you develop the skills to maintain a drug-free life.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) offers some of the same techniques as CBT but is adapted for individuals who are experiencing intense emotions. It helps the individual understand their emotions and change unhealthy behaviors.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Basic techniques for motivational interviewing include open ended questions and reflective listening. The therapist helps you come to your own conclusions about making changes in your life without coercion or judgment.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Meals provided during nutrition therapy are designed to detoxify your body and reduce cravings. This holistic therapy will also teach you how to plan and prepare meals that support healing and recovery.

A combination of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), counseling, and peer support can be a good way to break free from smoking. The NRT treats your physical symptoms so you can focus on addressing any emotional or mental addiction.

One of the staff was charged with stealing funds in 2015 from another substance abuse center and that person is at Wisdom now Not a great staff.

Response from the owner3 weeks ago
Thank you, Peter, for raising an important point that speaks directly to Wisdom s Core Values. At Wisdom, we believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, including the chance for redemption and renewal. In the field of mental health and addiction recovery, our focus is deeply rooted in the principles of rehabilitation and reintegration. We firmly believe that every individual deserves the chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society. This includes creating opportunities for personal and professional growth, for both our clients and our staff. In line with State of Alaska's employment policies, individuals who have completed their legal obligations, including paying full restitution to those harmed, are encouraged to reintegrate into the workforce. This is a crucial step in the concept of rehabilitation and reintegration. Alaska law allows for a variance to be granted in certain fields, supporting people in finding stable, gainful employment as part of their journey towards making amends and re-establishing trust within their communities. This is especially true in fields like ours, where empathy and understanding play a vital role in recovery work. In fact, state regulations require us to publicly post the variance in our lobby, and we re happy to explain its significance to anyone with questions. Wisdom s values and the compassionate approach are in full support and alignment with this position, as many recovery-oriented organizations are. Additionally, the 9th Step in AA, NA and other 12 Step programs focuses on making amends as a way to move forward without fear of past mistakes, a principle we respect deeply. We are committed to supporting both our clients and our team members on their journeys of growth and transformation. Had you reached out to us directly with this concern, you would have learned that after almost a decade of dedicated service, the person you're referencing has moved on to another agency, though she may still facilitate a class here from time to time. We respect and value the contributions of our team members, past and present, who have played a role in fostering a compassionate environment for healing. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly at admin@Awisdomcenter.com. We're always up for a direct conversation about treatment and recovery! We wish you well!

I gave 1 star because 0 wasn't available... This is after being a patient of theirs for around 2 years via Zoom... They didn't listen to me and misdiagnosed me... Do not go here if you have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, POTS or if you suspect you're autistic or have adhd!

I would highly recommend this establishment for anyone seeking help with drug or alcohol addiction. They provide multiple integrated services all in one place. I've been to 3 different treatment centers in the state of Alaska where I was "unbelievably" traumatized and treated like "dirt" good thing that's what I was made of.

I was in a low place in my life and I got so much support from everyone at Wisdom Traditions. Connection is very important, and I feel genuine caring and a warm welcome whenever I go (in person or Zoom) to alumni meetings. It's reassuring to know that people can get better and STAY that way!

The gal I first did all my therapy with was great and then my husband and I did more with a man and he called me malicious and hung up and the next two weeks that we called him back for a meeting he wouldn t answer. He worked here at wisdom traditions. I called to get my paperwork back that I signed out for nine days ago and she told me it was two weeks and the gal on the phone told me That it ll take four weeks so I asked to talk to supervisor and she asked me who I spoke to last. Really? Get some competent people
