About Presbyterian Inpatient Behavioral Health Albuquerque

Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital Behavioral Health Services offers adults, children, and adolescents a full range of substance abuse and behavioral recovery services in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their comprehensive approach includes a team of behavioral health specialists, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and social workers. The core of their program is medication management, education, and therapy programs. They provide inpatient residential care and outpatient treatment with age specific groups.

Inpatient treatment takes place at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital. Clients receive a private room and ongoing care in a calm atmosphere. Inpatient treatment is often recommended for those with severe or complicated substance abuse or behavioral struggles because it allows for closer monitoring during the program.

During treatment, clients receive several forms of therapy, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and couple’s therapy. Each one carries the goal of increasing self understanding and strengthening the interpersonal relationships that form vital support systems during recovery.

Outpatient care sees clients make regular visits to the hospital without having to reside there during treatment. Outpatient is preferred for those in stable living situations and those who want to continue pursuing work or education while receiving treatment. Outpatient care delivers the same treatment methods as the inpatient program but only occurs a few hours each week.

Therapy and counseling are at the core of substance abuse disorder treatment. Approaches can vary depending on a client’s circumstances, but the goal is to help you balance your work, family, education, and relationship responsibilities during and after treatment.

A primary care physician (PCP) will monitor you during treatment and help address any medical issues you experience while you are in the program. PCPs are vital to maintaining health and safety and provide a wide range of services to ensure you are getting a full spectrum of care.

Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital is part of the Presbyterian Hospital network. Those in the program may get referrals to other specialists and services in the network if appropriate or necessary.

I was in the behavioral health side of this hospital on Wednesday July 3rd. I had blood work done and apparently they have no record of it being done. I ve called around and around trying to figure out my results and somehow they lost them. Do not go to this hospital, highly unprofessional, and a waste of your time. Not too mention the staff there are just rude and impatient.

Threw you on antidepressants and gave little to no coping skills. Most of the techs harmed our well being and should not be working in such a place. Unnecessary rules were put in place such as not allowing for people to give out their numbers to those who they met there and would purposely separate people who made friends together. I would often her techs talk bad about the patients with one talking about how someone did actually have a certain condition. I have a genuine fear of going here again.

Accepted Insurance

Presbyterian Inpatient Behavioral Health Albuquerque works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient Rehab
aftercare iconAftercare
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Consulting intervention services can help you plan an effective drug intervention in New Mexico. An intervention specialist will assess your loved one's circumstances and suggest the best approach to take for the intervention itself and for follow-up treatment. Intervention services can also provide follow-up care for family members, regardless of whether the individual chooses to enter treatment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Medical detox is offered under 24-hour clinical care in New Mexico. This setting includes a team of professionals who can address your physical, emotional, and mental health needs 24/7. Doctors often prescribe medications to relieve withdrawal symptoms and make the process safer and more comfortable. This level of care continues until you have completed detox and are medically cleared to move on to outpatient or inpatient rehab.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
When your body is purged of all addictive substances, the process is known as detoxification, and this is typically the first step in the addiction recovery process. A medically assisted detox is generally performed in an inpatient setting, where you are monitored by a team of medical professionals who consistently check and recheck your vital signs and provide medications if necessary to help alleviate any withdrawal symptoms. After you've safely cleared drugs and alcohol from your system, you'll likely transition to an inpatient addiction treatment program for the next phase of your recovery.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Each drug rehab in New Mexico offers unique amenities and treatment methods. Common aspects of treatment include group and individual counseling, recreational therapy, medication management, and healthy living. Aftercare is often provided to prevent relapse.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Substance use disorders disrupt thinking and behavior patterns, which interferes with critical life skills. Drug rehab programs in New Mexico include life skills training to allow you to rebuild those skills. You'll relearn how to think, behave, and interact with others in healthy ways so you can successfully navigate daily life.

I stayed here in October of 2023 after I attempted(I was 15 at the time and stayed in adolecents unit). Over all it was clean the food was alright and care was alright as well. I had trouble with some of the staff but for the most part it was ok. The thing is they gave you no sort of skill or help besides medication. It would have been so helpful to learn skills or coping mechanisims or anything there but it was truly just a big daycare center.

This is from my experience back in 2021ish. I was 15, in the youth ward admitted for being suchidal. When I was there, it was like a big daycare. I liked the nurses a lot, honestly, they were caring and fun. Place was clean and there was a big tv/play structure outside.

I was taken here by police because I was having suicidal ideation, and didn't really feel helped here. Most of the time was spent waiting without my clothes or phone to be seen by a counselor. I feel like this is what jail would be but with snacks, but the feeling of being treated less than human is there. The food wasn't terrible, but the uniform (?) I was given was too small. Next time I'll just be suicidal at home!

Worst experience with a mental "help" facility. Rude sarcastic receptionists, cynical nurses, and doctors who are conveniently out of town when you need them. Need help? SEEK OTHER HELP

I am grateful for the compassion of the nurses and techs. Their care saved my life after I suffered a breakdown (Spiritual Awakening). Unfortunately my mental health care was cut short with a COVID outbreak in their south unit. I was sent home before my psychiatrist thought I should, so I was abandoned by the hospital and left to fight both my mental health issues and COVID on my own. I wore my mask the entire time I was there. I did what I was supposed to do to protect the staff and patients, but there was NO protection for me.Couple of suggestions- sell the Skuit kiln that is sitting in the art room closet and put the money toward the abandoned dilapidated gym.- actually enforce mask outside of rooms. It was very common to see staff with masks pulled down or not properly worn. You test all patients before they go into the unit.. so one of the staff brought in COVID.- Invest in your people. They are short staffed and burnt out. You should have resilience in your operations. Your people will end up being your patients. You have been in the COVID era for years now, you should know how to bring in extra help to support your "family"- Privacy is a big issue. Often times diagnosis, symptoms, or PII is hollered across the unit. They removed the doors and curtains from the bathroom. If you step up on the stool bolted to the floor you can look across to the other unit right into their bathrooms.- Short staffed means people uncounted for. One member of the south unit was missed in the courtyard. He banged on the windows and waved at the security cameras with no luck. He ended up coming over the fence and walking back in the front door. Again Understaffed- Integrity in your controls and operations is an issue. I was told not to drink coffee unless it was decaf. Three days I had breakfast with what I thought was decaf because the receipt said it was decaf and it was signed off by a Quality check. I couldn't figure out why I was so anxious and my BP was higher those days. The following day, after I was informed by a different dietician that it was in fact caffeinated, no coffee no issue. This is a stimulate that triggers cortisol and adrenaline. Why did this happen.- Expand your Yoga/Meditation/Storage room to accomodate all patients

So I went here way back in 2021 (February) for the first time for trying to end my life, (This was the child ward btw) it was a good experience (as good as being in the psych ward can get). The children there were kind of rude, but that's not the hospital's fault and the kids were not in the best state of mind (I mean they are in a psych ward for a reason), so it's not really their fault either. The food and state of the rooms wasn't bad either. They really helped and I got put on mood stabilizers of various kind. The two people that helped the most was someone named Arron? Erin? (I don't know how tho spell their name) she was or is a tech there, and Dr. Sharon (I think that's his name). I miss Erin.I'm writing this because I hope this will help someone choose this hospital to stay at and because I've heard horror stories about others . this place means so much to me because it was the start to getting better And I hope it can be for you too.
