I was transformed by Jesus and the love and kindness of the staff and supporters of Hoving Home. I have never went back to my old life of addiction and incarceration. It's been over 8 years and I am still in awe everyday! Thank you HH for your love, acceptance and support!
About Walter Hoving Home
Walter Hoving Home is a faith-based recovery program in Garrison, New York. Since 1967, they’ve provided a welcoming environment for women to hone in on recovery and build everlasting connections. Their program emphasizes the significance of building a relationship with God to aid in recovery.
What stands out most to me is their outstanding campus. They create the ideal atmosphere to step away from daily triggers and focus on healing. The serene landscapes, rivers, waterfalls and rolling hills of Upstate New York will surround you. You’ll live next to a Tudor mansion on the hilltop with beautiful architecture, a large chapel and two large dorms for residents. They provide a comfortable space for privacy, relaxation and reflection.
As a ministry of Adult and Teen Challenge, their long term program uses Biblical principles and proven interventions to promote long term recovery. You may participate in individual and group counseling, parenting classes, peer support groups, addiction education and relapse prevention training. They might also offer vocational rehab, recreational activities and anger management.
Another incredible feature I noticed is their emphasis on building a relationship with God. Their programs foster spiritual growth by helping you connect with a higher power. You’ll benefit from learning more about God and forming an intimate relationship that can help you sustain recovery.
I also love that their program is founded on family concepts. They strive to help you feel at home and open up in treatment. They offer a welcoming community where you can connect with other women on similar paths and grow together. You’ll learn from other women, respect each other, and help each other in challenging times. That way, you’ll leave their program with a mutually beneficial network of peers.

Levels of Care
12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.
24-Hour Clinical Care
For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

Treatment
Alcoholism
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug Addiction
When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.
Opioid Addiction
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance Abuse
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
Family Therapy
Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Life Skills
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
