About Walter Hoving Home

Walter Hoving Home is a faith-based recovery program in Garrison, New York. Since 1967, they’ve provided a welcoming environment for women to hone in on recovery and build everlasting connections. Their program emphasizes the significance of building a relationship with God to aid in recovery.

What stands out most to me is their outstanding campus. They create the ideal atmosphere to step away from daily triggers and focus on healing. The serene landscapes, rivers, waterfalls and rolling hills of Upstate New York will surround you. You’ll live next to a Tudor mansion on the hilltop with beautiful architecture, a large chapel and two large dorms for residents. They provide a comfortable space for privacy, relaxation and reflection.

As a ministry of Adult and Teen Challenge, their long term program uses Biblical principles and proven interventions to promote long term recovery. You may participate in individual and group counseling, parenting classes, peer support groups, addiction education and relapse prevention training. They might also offer vocational rehab, recreational activities and anger management.

Another incredible feature I noticed is their emphasis on building a relationship with God. Their programs foster spiritual growth by helping you connect with a higher power. You’ll benefit from learning more about God and forming an intimate relationship that can help you sustain recovery.

I also love that their program is founded on family concepts. They strive to help you feel at home and open up in treatment. They offer a welcoming community where you can connect with other women on similar paths and grow together. You’ll learn from other women, respect each other, and help each other in challenging times. That way, you’ll leave their program with a mutually beneficial network of peers.

Words can not explain the healing that I have experienced at Hoving Home. I truly found my identity in Jesus Christ. I witnessed His mighty power in restoring families and lives. The leaders within the home are truly being used by God to show His love to many women whom have never experienced true love before. I absolutely recommend this ministry to those battling addiction. There is hope. Jesus can do a work in everyone. He did not call on those that we consider "qualified" to carry out His will, He uses the unqualified. He used me. He can and will use you.

In July, 2021 I came unto the end of myself in my addiction. I had lost my children, my home, my dignity, and the respect of pretty much any one who knew me, including myself. I was broken, tired and ashamed but I hadn't lost all hope.I heard about the Hoving Home in Garrison, New York from a very unexpected source (my dealer). At the time I wasn't looking for God, I was just looking for ways to continue to numb my pain. But when this person told me about the Hoving Home, something in me stirred.I remember looking the Hoving Home up online and feeling very drawn to this place. I saw that it was a Christ centered and faith based program focused on helping women rebuild lives that had been shattered by addiction. I just knew that I had to get to this place!!!Now mind you, Im in SC with not a dollar to my name but when I took a step of faith to get to this place, God made a way...When I got to the Hoving Home I was embraced by a loving community of a bunch of broken people just like me. I instantly felt welcomed and loved. I thought I was just coming here to get sober but I got so much more! I encountered the love of Jesus at this place like I never had before. I was completely wrecked by His love! I found a freedom, peace, and joy like I had never known. I also received much needed healing from years of pain and trauma...Upon leaving the Hoving Home I went to a half-way house and saved money to go to Bible college in Minnesota where I met and married my amazing husband Matt. From there we moved back to my home town in SC to begin the process of restoration with my children. I'm coming up on 3 years of freedom from the chains of addiction in July, 2024. And I'm still passionately burning for JESUS!None of this would have been possible without the healing and loving environment provided at the Hoving Home! I am forever grateful for the Hoving Home and the staff that dedicate their lives to helping others. They are truly the hands and feet of Jesus! I highly recommend this program to anyone struggling with addiction!!!THANK YOU HOVING HOME!!!

This center is in a class of its own for healing from addiction and learning to know your worth to The Lord. A family member of ours completed the program about a year ago and is now in the leadership academy to go on and help others. She has made a complete transformation of her life thanks to this amazing, God centered home. We are so thankful that they have provided her with the help, resources and guidance that she needed and we are so grateful to have her back with our family as she moves forward.Thank you Hoving Home NY.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

12-step icon12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Life changing!

I was transformed by Jesus and the love and kindness of the staff and supporters of Hoving Home. I have never went back to my old life of addiction and incarceration. It's been over 8 years and I am still in awe everyday! Thank you HH for your love, acceptance and support!

I personally went through this program & I can truly say that it changed my life for the better. It was the first program I have ever been in & though my journey had been rocky I couldn t deny the change that was happening in my heart and those around me. Today I am a loving friend, a dependable sister, a reliable/truthful daughter & one who not only worships the Lord but has given my whole entire being to serving Jesus. Today I have the pleasure & privilege to work in this ministry and declared to anyone who comes through the doors of Hoving Home that they aren t forgotten by the Lord or far from His mercy & grace! There is endless hope!

Hoving Home isn't just about addictions it's about shattered lives. I got to see myself inside and out. I learned to work through my childhood trauma, failed relationships. Having a confidence I never had before. My insecurities starting fading. I got a sisterhood and I renewed my relationship with God.

I attended and completed The Hoving Home program , it's an amazing, beautiful and wonderful place where you are able to heal from abuse, move away from a life of addictions and grow in a healthy relationship with God. I loved every moment, was it a hard journey Yes! But let's be real what journey of healing isn't hard. A lot of people will have their opinions about this place, but until you experience God for yourself you can't judge what the people of God are doing. This place doesn't force God on you, they share Gods love with you so that you can experience TRUE love. In addiction the only thing you where searching for and loved was the high but the high and the lifestyle to get high, is what was killing you emotionally, mentally and physically. Anywhere that helps you and share God's love with you would be called a cult but the enemy is a deceiver and will destroy you. Don't be deceived TRY GOD and TRY THE HOVING HOME, they really care for ALL of YOU, not just certain parts, but everything that God cares about in you they look to bring out in you.
