A friend recommended this place to me, as I've been struggling with my mental health (burnout) a lot lately and I haven't been able to get connected with a therapist. Tonight I met with Marrisa virtually and she was so easy to talk to, so empathetic and so helpful. I'm so grateful for this service, because I had the worst breakdown last Wednesday (that I've had in over a decade) and I need to reduce the chances of that ever getting that bad again. Thank you!

This is a life saving service in times of crisis, and an incredible resource to find a good fit for mental health support when you otherwise can t afford it. I had a tough situation while I was in between insurances and was able to come here, get in same day, and speak to a great counselor. I tried a few different providers before finding one who fit and set up a short term care plan. These clinicians make high quality mental health care accessible, regardless of income or insurance status.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

in short, i really do think that the people and services here changed my life during a very tough time (and have done so for others i've met as well). sometimes, when in a crisis, you just need someone to listen and give you some extra assistance/resources to boost yourself back up. the folks here deal kindness and respect in spades.the receptionist was incredibly kind, the waiting area was calm, and the counselor i met with was friendly, thoughtful, and compassionate. she followed up with an email link to other services in my area that i hadn't even known of that matched with my insurance status and income! i am so thankful.while the organization may not be able to make as many appointments or visits in terms of long-term counseling (as other reviews have mentioned), they are knowledgable and happy to help you find a "fit" that works for what you are going through with care and kindness.if you are struggling and just really, really need to see someone ASAP and can't be waiting for an appointment that could take weeks or months to come to fruition, this is the place. the people here are good people, and you will be in good hands.

Whenever i used to call, they used to tell me "we are here for you .please call us if you need our help." But , last time i called in, i was with a councelor and his supervisor came in and said something to him privately. The councelor said you are calling in more often and cant help you.

In instances like this, we are unable to speak to the issue in a public forum for privacy reasons. We have addressed this case in private. However, if any client is not satisfied with our service, you may address a complaint to our executive director, Mary Weeks, at mweeks@walkin.org. We take complaints seriously, and we welcome all feedback.

I have had great support from Walk in counselors, regarding deep issues, ranging from gettinf better at beinf assertive, help finding resources for further care, and interpersonal relationships with people of different backgrounds. I'd say 5 out of the 6 times ive come out of a session feeling much more at ease.

Wait times were reasonable the two times I went. However, being a free walk in service wait times would vary. Since you are not a able to pick your counselor, you may have to go a few times to find a counselor you like that you can then make an appointment with. I appreciate this service because I have to meet a $6,000 deductible before my insurance will even pay a portion of therapy. So, I am in the process of finding a counselor here that I can work with. I ve had one okay counselor here and one who I thought was totally unprofessional and thus unhelpful. But there are many people who volunteer their services here so you might get lucky. And if you need help and need this resource don t be discouraged. I m a single mother who is thousands of miles from friends and family and, has suffered a major trauma here in Minneapolis. Since the Walk in Counseling Center is my only resource, I m determined to make it work and keep trying for a good counselor.
