About Claudia Black Young Adult Center

The Meadows – Claudia Black Young Adult Center is a drug and alcohol rehab facility located in Wickenburg, Arizona. They treat young adults for alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder. They offer dual diagnosis care for people who have a concurring mental health disorder and an addiction problem.

This center is known for the unique treatment model it provides which was developed by Pia Mellody. This model asserts that childhood trauma leads to immaturity which leads to difficulty managing normal adult responsibilities as well as intimacy problems. People who have these issues will often take drugs to self medicate.

They use many different treatment methods here. They have a brain center where you can receive neurofeedback treatment. A computer measures your brain waves. It helps a clinician monitor your thought patterns so you can change them.

They use eye movement desensitization and reprocessing for people who have experienced trauma. EMDR uses sensory experiences like lights or sounds to treat patients. The patient tries to recall trauma while the sensory treatment is happening. These sensory experiences cause the body’s reaction to trauma to dissipate. You may be treated with Somatic Experiencing which teaches clients to live in the present and forget the trauma of the past.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Our Policy: Claudia Black Young Adult Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

My daughter just completed her 45 days at the Claudia Black Center and it was a life changing experience for her and the family. The treatment team's priority was my daughter's well being and that message was clear when hard conversations were had with her and with us as her parents. The family work was invaluable. They don't tell you what you want to hear they tell you what you need to hear. Not everyone can handle that and it wasn't always easy but it was worth it. Trust the process.

well I was here and then later five years later Cerritos college hospital Claudia Black treatment center again for two months and it was only a one month program I did it twice in a row because I knew that I needed it. It helped me a great deal however I did not take their advice and run from my family as fast as I can as soon as I got back and never look back. If I had followed their advice I would've had a 10 times better life with less trauma and abuse from my own family. I love their treatment center you get what you put in and you need to be paying attention and learning it's not party time there. The drama therapy I believe is stupid and self inflicted trauma I don't believe reliving trauma is good for anybody but the rest of the program and learning about the roles that you play in your family and how that shaped you into the person you are now and what you can do to have a better life it's all smart, good stuff and worth learning. love to claudia black. I have a signed copy of it's never too late to have a happy childhood still with the other Ip in the program having signed every page with beautiful things to say. Too bad none of those phone numbers are any good anymore or I would be calling them now over 20yrs later. all good people. when Hospital staff repeatedly tell you that the only way you're going to have a decent life is to break ties with your family and never look back, you should listen. it's true.

They are concerned with collecting money, not treating their patients.

My daughter was a patient and was very unhappy with her treatment and medical attention, as was I. They have been holding on to my insurance refund for 2 months now (sent to them in error) and they refuse to give me a status or send me my money. This is a very unreputable organization.

I would Give 0 stars if I could. This place traumatized me instead of helping me. Their staff is very unprofessional and does not have the best interest for their patients. I spent 45 days at CBC and I only met with my therapist 4 times. The psychiatrist at CBC didn t communicate with my psychiatrist at home and put me on medications I told her I had adverse reactions to. In addition took me off of medications that I took at home that could have helped with the adverse reactions because of what she decided to prescribe me. The therapy is mostly N/A that is peer led with no licensed therapist present. When I expressed my desire to AMA they would not give me any extra calls to make arrangements to leave. I was told if I wanted to leave I would be sent to the psych ward Instead. I hope this place gets shut down it s truly Inhumane.

I believe that treatment is in accordance to the subject being treated, (CBC can take you to the stream, but they can't make you drink). Some feel they received their treatment, that warrants recognition. I spent 40 days here, met some great people, and learnt to focus on what empowers me. I am leaving this review to counteract the nasty reviews. my time at CBC was a great experience for me.

Before reading this I want you to understand this is coming from someone who is still sober, and doing extremely well in my life. I went here about four years ago, I would give this place no stars if I could. They are out for money and will push pharmaceutical drugs on your child. I cannot explain how terrifying it was when three were kicking me out, they turned my family against me and my family was going to cut off all ties with me. They were more than happy to keep the money though. I felt like I was in one flew over the cuckoos nest. DO NOT trust these people.

This place is awful . If you need help for your love ones do not send them there. We sent our grandson over for addiction treatment and spent $70000 they did nothing to help him. They are so arrogant and useless. They don t even deserve one star.

I think this place thinks that because celebrities have been going there, that they can charge what they want and not put in the work. Very disappointing. Luckily, there are much better places for far less money. If we could only get our $70,000 back

Save your money and go to a place that cares about their clients more than the money. This place was an atrocious waste of money
