About The Mandel Center of Arizona

The Mandel Center of Arizona offers integrative mental and behavioral health care for adolescents and adults in Scottsdale, Arizona. Specialized programs are available for children, adolescents, young adults, seniors, members of the LGBTQ+ community, parents, pregnant and postpartum women, trauma survivors, and persons with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. They provide crisis interventions, outpatient programs, and aftercare support.

Outpatient treatment at The Mandel Center of Arizona begins with a medical and mental health assessment and personalized care plan. Referrals for acute and subacute inpatient treatment are available as needed. Clients engage in intensive individual, group, couples, and family counseling drawing of a wide range of psychotherapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). The program promotes clients’ sustained sobriety through robust, recovery-focused life-skills training that addresses topics such as anger and stress management, parenting, trauma resolution, and self-esteem. An array of evidence-based complementary therapies is available, including mindfulness and experiential therapy.

Their aftercare programs enable a complete continuum of care aligned with clients’ evolving needs and may include career coaching, peer counseling, and referrals for additional services.

Clients are responsible for payment of therapists’ fees, but The Mandel Center of Arizona may be able to work with major insurers, such as Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, and Cigna, to offset treatment costs. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits may vary.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Rational Behavior Therapy

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Alyssa is very compassionate, knowledgeable, professional and delightful. Her help to me and impact on my life over these many years of therapy have been invaluable. My quality of life has been exponentially increased through our therapy partnership. Being a therapist and dealing with people who are often at their worst and most desperate is a hard job. Alyssa does it unfailing with care and humor but also with boundaries that keep both patient and therapist safe.Thank you, Alyssa, for sharing your gifts with those of us that struggle.

I cannot recommend The Mandel Center highly enough. Alyssa Mandel is, quite literally, a lifesaver. She is extremely intelligent and even more importantly is kind, compassionate, empathetic, funny, honest and straightforward. She offered me practical tools and solutions I could use so that many aspects of my life and relationships could be successful and so I could reach my highest potential. She genuinely wants the best for her clients. Alyssa is nationally recognized and has an impeccable reputation in the medical and mental health fields. She came very highly recommended to my family from several doctors in LA after she received the prestigious 40 under 40 award from the Phoenix Business Journal. Arizona is so truly lucky to have Alyssa and I am and always will be incredibly grateful to her. I take self improvement seriously and the years that I was fortunate enough to see her gave me the foundation of the woman that I am today. Thank you, Alyssa, from the bottom of my heart.

From the first meeting with Alyssa I've found relief and empowerment. She has helped me and my family in ways too numerous to count and over a long stretch of time. For the legacy I will be leaving my children, for saving all my important relationships, and for teaching me to see myself clearly, I am forever grateful. Alyssa has the gift of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable -- a rare soul indeed.

My wife and I have been seeing Alyssa for over 12 years now, and she has helped us and our family in more ways than I can mention here. She is kind, compassionate, knowledgable and professional. Alyssa really knows her stuff, and is able to communicate that effectively to help us make positive changes in our lives. We have made so much progress in the past 12 years, we are so grateful for Alyssa, I cannot recommend her and The Mandel Center highly enough!

What I really like about the Mandel Center is Alyssa Mandel's honesty, her listening skills and her ability to read people, assess and determine needs. Confidentiality is strictly followed which eases my anxieties. My 6th grade son has been seeing her for months now and she has truly been a breath of fresh air as far as counselors go. It took just a couple of sessions for him to begin to trust her, as kid tends to do.All in all, it is worth the time and cost to see a counselor you trust and one that doesn't sugar coat things for mental health and an overall wellbeing. As many know, how we feel mentally effects how we feel physically as well as those around us, for we are not an island but human with needs.
