About Stephen Center HERO Program

The Stephen Center HERO program, located in Omaha, Nebraska, offers addiction treatment for low-income or homeless adults aged 19 and older. If you’re dealing with a substance use disorder or you’re facing mental health challenges then they provide residential and outpatient care to help you get the support you need.

They accept several payment options including Nebraska State Probation Vouchers, Nebraska Medicaid, Federal Probation and Pre-Trial Contracts, the Veterans Administration GPD Program and self-pay.

Every client begins in Transition Into Programming (TIP) where they spend around 24 to 48 hours. Next is short-term residential (STR) followed by intensive outpatient treatment (IOP). After completing treatment, clients can choose to stay in a sober living environment. It’s a great way to get the extra support many people need as they continue working on recovery.

The STR program gives clients a solid start on their recovery. Most clients stay in STR for around 30 to 45 days. Weekly check-ins with counselors and case managers help keep things on track. Clients take part in four weeks of family programming as part of their treatment. Family members are encouraged to join if possible.

The IOP provides structured housing and flexible support over six to 10 weeks. Clients focus on life and recovery skills. During this phase of treatment, they can work on finding a job, attending support groups, or volunteering. After completing IOP, clients usually transition into the general outpatient (OP) program for four to six weeks.

After finishing treatment, clients can stay in a structured sober living environment for up to 90 days. To make the most of this time, clients actively work on their sobriety by participating in 12-step programs. It’s a great way to continue building a solid foundation for recovery.
Every step of treatment includes evidence-based and motivational approaches to recovery. The program includes trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and both group and individual therapy.
Many clients believe the HERO program is one of the best in Omaha. The kind and humble staff are truly dedicated to helping people overcome their challenges. If you’re ready to begin recovery then you’ll get a solid start here.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs ensure clients receive a complete continuum of care after completing high-level treatment in a detox center or inpatient rehab. Clients typically partner with their case manager and care team to outline their specific recovery needs and goals. Rehab aftercare services are often highly customized and designed to evolve as clients progress in their recovery. Standard services include outpatient treatment and peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction following outpatient care.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs are based on a treatment model combining peer support with personal growth. The 12 steps of recovery deploy spiritual principles to promote participants' psychological and emotional healing, enabling them to identify and address the origins of their addiction, accept responsibility for their life choices, and relinquish control over that which cannot be changed. Religious affiliation is not required, and most meetings are non-denominational, though some formats, such as Celebrate Recovery! are rooted in Biblical principles.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

When loved ones stage a drug intervention in Nebraska, the goal is not to gang up on the individual and make them feel attacked. The aim is to make them feel cared for and to present a solid plan for getting them the treatment they need. This process often includes intervention services. These professionals can provide support for planning and carrying out the intervention and guidance for appropriate treatment for the individual and family members.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

As a form of intensive rehab, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) provides treatment to those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment serves as a short-term alternative to inpatient or step-down after a residential program. With a partial hospitalization program, you'll participate in 6-8 hours of support for up to 5 days a week. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options for virtual participation. The duration of your PHP treatment depends on your needs, averaging 90 days.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Medical detox is the process of removing alcohol and drugs from your body in a medically supervised environment and helping manage withdrawal symptoms. If you've become dependent on alcohol and some drugs (like benzodiazepines and opioids), quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In an inpatient environment, you will be monitored by a team of medical professionals who will help keep you as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the process.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. I haven't personally been a patient here, but I have had several friends complete the inpatient program for substance abuse, and they all seemed to like it. I know you can still smoke cigarettes, but no cell phones the first few weeks and limited if any contact at all with the outside world. It's coed, so that probably helps people when making a decision for an inpatient facility. Especially when we're talking 30+ days or more, detoxing off any and all things good, lol! The entrance to check in is tricky to find too, it's actually on the back side, or really, it might even be the side of the building under an awning. Hit the buzzer, and someone comes to help you get checked in.

Creme da la creme of treatment..... Been to others here in omaha and this is by far the best. The staff genuinely care. Medjine Graves is a amazing counselor and The case management team is awesome Wynston, Jessica and Brooklynn go above and beyond to help everyone they can! The RAs are soo caring and nice, Steve at the front desk does soooo much for everyone and sacrifices himself just to help others. I've gotten so much out of my stay here. I will remember this time in my life forever and will probably truly be the last time I use because of the tools and support system I've built while here.
