About Stepping Stone

Stepping Stone is an addiction treatment program provided by Southwest Behavioral Healthcare. They offer residential and outpatient services for adults in Evansville, Indiana. There are lots of ways to pay for your services, including self payment, private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and Healthy Indiana Plan. They also offer sliding fee discounts for eligible clients.

If you need a high level of care as you recover from addiction, you can start out at their residential facility. This is a co ed building that can hold up to 32 clients at a time. Most people stay here for three to four weeks and attend treatment from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. The services offered here include counseling sessions for individuals, families, and groups, life skills training, addiction education classes, and peer support groups. You’ll also learn about some of the local self help groups that are located nearby. If you need to detox before participating in other treatment services, they can help you do that, too.

When you’re ready to step down into a lower level of care, they’ll work with you to develop an outpatient treatment plan. Most clients are in outpatient treatment for 21 to 28 days, which includes seeing a counselor to discuss your recovery progress.

Past clients say they’d recommend this program to anyone who’s serious about addiction recovery, noting that it’s led by good people who truly care about your recovery.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. They offer different outpatient programs and groups for patients with substance abuse problems, for those who already have completed a substance abuse program or also for those who need with a history of substance abuse. The average duration of these groups is 8 weeks with weekly sessions.

inpatient iconInpatient

Their most intensive program is the Residential Program which provides structured programming utilizing the best evidence-based practices while staying in a safe supportive environment. Those in the residential program stay between 3-4 weeks and attend all programming daily from 6:45 am until 9:30 pm Residents have daily contacts with their therapist, have access to case management services to help resolve life issues (medical, legal, financial or employment issues), and attend 12-step meetings daily either at their facility or in the community. Family programming is held on Saturdays, which allows family to attend education sessions, then to stay and visit.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The Social Detoxification Program is a residential program for those who need a structured, safe environment during the first 5-7 days of abstinence. This program is medically supervised, with nursing staff and a physician present during the day and non-medical staff on-site 24 hours a day. Generally, they can safely admit those with the following addictions for detox: opiates, methamphetamine, marijuana, synthetic drugs, cocaine, and in some cases, alcohol. Residents in detox are encouraged to attend daily programming and are able to have contact with a therapist and case manager during this time.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

I have major depressive disorder, anxiety and C-ptsd & ADHD. There are no real experienced psychologists here. My 1st appt the therapist suggested I start using essential oils. I'm like, you have got to be kidding me. I read a book about the crap when I was 12. I've been in and out of therapy for 17 years in 3 different states and this is the worst I've experienced. I kept trying to get on medication 3 different times and they told me they don't do that for outpatient. Plus the REALLY screwed up my intake paperwork and I now have to fill out an amendment form. SET ME WAY BACK. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

In my opinion this is drug treatment theater. Treatment in Louisville was so much better than the 3 times I went here. Someone is probably in someone else's pockets getting a pay day by throwing money into this place and getting repeat patients. It's probably the worst I have been to but I constantly hear about the state giving them money.
