About Southwest Behavioral & Health Services Lake Havasu City Outpatient

Southwest Behavioral Health Services -- Lake Havasu Outpatient is a mental health and substance abuse treatment facility in Havasu City, Arizona, at the edge of Wheeler Park. They specialize in delivering integrated care to provide clients with supportive health services. They serve adult clients. The Lake Havasu location serves as the outpatient treatment arm of Southwest Behavioral Health Services. In addition to traditional therapy services, they also provide DUI and DV education. Services offered at this location include:

An outpatient program is one where clients visit the facility on a regular schedule to meet with their care team and participate in treatment while continuing to live at home. Because clients aren’t under 24 hour staff supervision like they are in inpatient care, it’s best for those who have previously completed a higher level of care or have mild symptoms. Outpatient programs can also be used as a step down from higher levels of care.

The outpatient program includes individual, group, and family therapy. In addition, clients have access to case management and vocational services.

Case management services are those that help support clients by helping them connect with necessary medical services. They help by identifying and connecting with programs, providing transportation to and from appointments, and advocacy to ensure they get the help they want and need.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I went to Mohave Mental Health years ago, needless to say I had a horrible experience. I then started getting my mental health care at SW & they have been wonderful to work with & if I can't connect with a new therapist they don't take offense & help me find someone else. Recently I've been working with Dianna & Miles, both great people... with their help I can now be in a room with a man, way to go. I've been dealing with some stuff lately that has hit me hard & both of those I mentioned are busy today so a therapist new to this office gave me some of her time & I feel a bit calmer, thank you Esteban for not letting me leave.

Just a heads up for anyone who is offered transportation with them! They honk a few times and then drive off. So, be prepared! I had to run inside while I was waiting, didn't hear any honking and didn't get any calls. They have messed up my transportation that was scheduled more than 3 times so I assumed they didn't show up again. The worst part is I didn't even ask for them to fix it today, I was letting them know that I couldn't make it cause I don't have time to get an uber there. They offered to come get me and then didn't even have the compassion to notify me. I've been trying to be really understanding, and I've called more than 72 hours in advance for every appointment. I did my best to find a neutral feeling after the mishaps but as soon as they said I didn't show up after a few honks and nothing to actually notify me, I was pretty annoyed. I do hope others have a better experience but unfortunately mine has been pretty awful!

3 appointments in. Still haven't seen a Dr. 3 months to see an actual Dr. They also rescheduled 2 of the 4 appointments they made, 1 being two hours before the appointment. The so-called resource list They've provided are nonexistent. They've been no help whatsoever. Don't waste your time.

Some interns or students do work here. Fresh perspectives can be very helpful. I think most staff and employees are used to working with drug addicted/criminal populations though. For a child, the children's association is best.

one of the ladies hung up on me during my intake appointment today. so i went down to the facility to try and figure out what happened, then the lady at front desk proceeded to call the cops on me .this was the same lady that had tried instigating conflict with me just a couple weeks ago. They told me i could go to mohave mental health and have my progress transferred over to their facility .. This was a complete lie, mohave mental health doesn't evn offer Domesticc violence classes .. Not to mention when i went into the facility understandingly frustrated, 2 of the younger ladies that work their were sitting behind the glass laughing at me because i was worked up ... Absolutely disgusts me that these people find joy in laughing at other peoples pain and struglles and intentionally trying to make other peoples lives more difficult . Thanks people at southwest behavioral health for making everything way more difficult than neeed be . You guys truly are a blessing

Dorothy was one of the rudest cold doctor's I've ever met. I got so freaked out (panic disorder) that I asked her "are you ok? Did I do something wrong? Why haven't you been kind or smiled not one time throughout our appointment?' she said she didn't need to smile and if I didn't stop talking about it I wouldn't get any medication. She then gives me 2 weeks of meds I ended up back in the hospital. Stay away from this woman. If you hate your job so much why not just quit. I cried for days

I had a Court ordered Appointment set for the 29th for DUI classes. Without Notifying me my appointment was changed to the 24th and when I came in for intake on the 29th I was treated as of it was my fault that my appointment was changed. I had already waited 3 months. And they tried telling me I was now going to have to wait another 2 1/2 months for my appointment and there was no way they could squeeze me in because of the mess up. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOUR FREEDOM DEPENDS ON IT. They don t care. If I could give them a negative star review I would.
