About Southwest Behavioral & Health Services Metro Outpatient

Southwest Behavioral and Health Services offers mental and behavioral health programs for people of all ages. They have facilities throughout Arizona, including their Metro Outpatient location in Phoenix. Here, you can receive primary care and counseling services. They’re in network with most private insurance plans and also accept self pay.

I like that their facility combines primary care with behavioral care. This way, you only have to go to one location to get the comprehensive care you need to stay healthy. If you’re struggling with a behavioral health concern like addiction, they also offer outpatient counseling services, life skills training and case management. During your counseling sessions, you’ll learn more about the disease of addiction and identify your triggers. That way, you’ll learn how to cope with stress in a healthier way. You can go by yourself, with a partner or with your family.

Often, addictions are a result of underlying mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. If you need help treating a co-occurring disorder, they can do that here. The team offers psychiatric services and medication management to help you control your symptoms and begin recovery.

Many clients have had good experiences here, especially when they’ve found therapists they truly connect with. However, others have mentioned issues with scheduling and communication.

Justin at the front desk is very helpful. I ve left several messages for the office regarding lack of care being set up for my son with no a single call back, as well as no clarification on when they d be set up, just attitude that I am upset that they re taking so long. It took SEVERAL months to get any services besides psych for my son, and he needed more than that. They finally assigned a high needs person to him (after asking for one for 3 months) so she s been great, at least. I ve had the office fight me over who I can see there, and it takes at least 7 calls with a 4 minutes of ringing to get through SOMETIMES. usually, I give up after the 7th time. A lot of their practices are inefficient and frustrating. The only reason I m there now is it s an SMI clinic and I love my psych there. The nurse is amazing too. Not impressed by anyone else but them and Justin.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person denies their substance abuse behavior when confronted one-on-one, a drug intervention in Arizona may be necessary. An intervention may be formally planned with intervention services from a professional who can guide loved ones through this process. The intervention involves confronting someone with how their drinking or drug use has affected themselves and everyone around them and encourages them to get treatment.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The goal of motivational interviewing in Arizona is to enhance your confidence in your ability to make changes in your life. It encourages you to commit to change and plan for the process of making those changes that will allow you to reach your goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Some nicotine replacement therapy options are available over the counter. Others require a prescription from your doctor. Common forms in Arizona include nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges. Quit smoking medications are also available.

Please protect your mental health by NOT coming here. I called in advance to see if they took my insurance. I let them know I didnt want meds, just therapy. They confirmed they did and what the co pay was. I came in and paid for intake. They let me know they would call to set up an appt that day. They didnt. So I called the next day for them to inform me NONE of their therpaist accept commercial insurance. I thought I called and verified that you took it and SOMEHOW yall ran my insurance and could accept it for intake? But when it came down to it suddently you dont accept it. The therapist kept emailing me and telling me she would find someone within their system. Guess what never happened? Them finding me anyone. Now I am getting letters in the mail that I have been considered a no show for not coming to my appt? YOU NEVER SET AN APPT WITH ME. You told me you would get back after finding someone who took my insurance though we covered that before I came in AND during intake. What a joke.

I've been having services with them for over 10 years and happy with everything they've helped me with and when I wasn't comfortable with something they fixed it. I highly recommend this place.

I had an incredibly negative experience with Southwest Behavioral Health in Arizona. The front office staff was insulting and unhelpful, making it difficult for me to feel comfortable and safe seeking treatment. This attitude extended to the rest of the facility, as I felt like my needs were not taken seriously, and I was often treated poorly by staff members. It's critical that facilities like Southwest Behavioral Health prioritize patient care and professionalism in their staff. Patients are often vulnerable and seeking help, and they should not have to deal with the added stress of rude and unprofessional behavior from the very people who are supposed to be helping them.

Their lack of concern for patients' needs and frequent mistreatment made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Additionally, I had an unpleasant experience with Sharona, who is, without a doubt, the worst therapist I've ever had. Instead of listening to my concerns, Sharona argued with me about my own opinion, leaving me feeling unheard and invalidated. Regrettably, this seems to be a recurring issue at this facility. In my time here, I have encountered therapists who have made fun of me, judged me, or even discussed their personal lives during my sessions.

I had a new patient appointment set up. I had put the time in my phone wrong and it made me 40 minutes late. Well they refused to see me even though the lobby was completely empty. I have been having major depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and panic attacks. All they do is tell me to call at 8am everyday to set up a new appointment, only to tell me that there are no openings. They are clearly not interested in providing assistance to those that clearly need it and are asking for it. This is exactly why I waited over 20 years to ask for help because now I just feel stupid
