About Port St. Lucie Hospital

Port St. Lucie Hospital is a 75-bed private behavioral healthcare facility, offering both inpatient and outpatient therapy services to patients seeking care for dual-diagnosis & adult psychiatric disorders in a tranquil, retreat-like environment.

During medical detox, clients are monitored by medical professionals to provide treatment for withdrawal symptoms. Treatment often includes FDA-approved medication and other physical supports, along with counseling and treatment planning for the next steps of rehab.

The partial hospitalization program (PHP) may include individual and group therapy, nutritional consultations, 12 Step program, and relapse prevention education. Additional therapies include recreational, art, and music. Clients learn coping skills for overcoming addictions and mental health challenges, as well as plan for discharge and long-term care.

Port Saint Lucie Hospital accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and most major health insurance companies, including Magellan Healthcare, Optum, Staywell, Aetna, First Health, Humana, Tricare, ComPsych, Beacon, and others. It’s important to confirm coverage with your individual provider before starting treatment, as coverage and out of network benefits can vary.

I was at this hospital for 10 days. I was honestly hesitant due to the negative reviews I seen online, but I went anyway. I was there for post partum depression, anxiety and med stabilization. Dr. MARIE IS AMAZING. She talked to me the day after I got there for an hour. She listened and was compassionate and understanding of my situation. We did get my meds stabilized. I was in ASU. Autumn the social worker is also amazing and she does group once a day. I gave this place 3 stars due to the fact that there isn't any individual therapy and because you can only go outside twice a day in the afternoon. They do have smoke breaks throughout the day, so bring your own cigarettes as they don't have community cigarettes unless someone dinates some. Admissions staff was also amazing. They answered all my questions and were very nice. The food is good but it's the same food every week ,depending on what day it is. There is a TV. They have art therapy and recreational therapy, a goals group in the morning and at night an as a peer lead group which I lead 3 times. Some techs are very nice, but some are lazy and some are rude. Milan, Charles, hoodgens and Marie and .Melanie are all great techs. There is a phone to use. You can do laundry as well. No hoodies or anything with strings. Mark in admissions was awesome and tried to make me laugh and answered all my questions. They will pick up from your house and bring you home. Mrs. Dee is cool also. The kitchen staff is nice. We also did music group too. Nik, the patient advocate addressed all my grievances in a timely manner and spoke at length with me about them and changes have been made already while there. Overall it's a good place. It's clean. You get snacks too. I would go back if I ever needed too. It was a good experience, just had some kinks like any place. ASU is also for detox so some are there for drugs and some mental health. It does get a bit boring, but if you make some friends, it goes by fast. It's a short term place so people usually stay up to 14 days or less. Oh yeah, no flip flops and bring a sweater. It gets cold and some ear plugs. I gave it 3 stars because I felt it could have had some more groups and counseling and again, some techs weren't that great. I would recommend it though. It did help me with my meds and anxiety being away from kids. All is good now. Thank you guys so much. I'll be back if I ever need to go somewhere. Hope this helps clear up some resistance from the bad reviews. I appreciate everything.

I called this business ahead of time, and I was LIED to ! This is not a detox or a treatment center, it s a state funded psychiatric hospital. I was there four days and not a single meeting, group, nothing. When I told them I wanted to leave it took them over a day to process my discharge. I m assuming the five star review below mine is from someone who runs a referral service called RightLyfe. He has never been to that detox and is only rating it that high so they will send him patients

Accepted Insurance

Port St. Lucie Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically choose inpatient rehab when they are in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that puts them at an increased risk of relapse. They reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Intensive psychotherapy is often the primary treatment modality, but clients in inpatient care may also receive holistic treatment and recovery-focused life skills training.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Florida is an essential part of treatment, particularly with medical detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe, and supervised detox provides around the clock access to medical professionals who can adminsiter proper medications and treatment to address these symptoms and step in should an emergency occur. This intensive clinical care will help curb the withdrawal effects, minimize substance dependence, and prepare you for the next step of treatment.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I originally contacted you.a few weeks ago seeking help. Initially you appproved me until you learned I was in a power wheelchair. Discrimimating against my power chair you then declined to treat me. So I contacted Disability and Dept of Labor. NOW suddenly after the true authorities spank you, you call me and act like nothing ever happened. I wouldn't use your facility if it was the last one on Earth. If I faced that much embarrasment just trying to get in, imagine how poorly I would be treated there. I don't kmow the little guys name who called me but he wouldn't let me get a word in edgewiseMy only hope is that no one else in my position ever feels the embarrasment I did when you essentially laughed in my face..Tell the little guy who called me, a telephone is for 2 way convrersation - not just him trying.to save face after you got spanked by the Dept of Disability..I had to scream for him to shut up just to say my part. That to me is a strong indicator of the treatmemt. or lack of) I would be subjected to.

I dropped off my husband for alcohol detox. My husband was Not happy with the (lack of) care he received. He complained about being cold in the facility. I brought him a long sleeve jacket that afternoon for him to wear inside. He said he did not receive his jacket until two days later. He was frightened by a very loud and disruptive inmate during his week s stay there. When I picked him up a week later, and after we arrived home, he claimed to be missing a valuable item from his black toiletry bag: a gold chain necklace. I tried to reach out to the staff members in charge of his care. I left several voicemails over a period of two weeks. No one returned my calls, so I was left hanging. My husband s gold chain necklace was deemed lost (or stolen) at the facility.

Do not use this hospital. I have a brother that has been there for 2 months. I am his POA and Health Proxy. I am also age 65 and his only living family member. He was there for over a week before anyone would call back. Though I called multiple times a day. The care has been terrible. And communication non existent. That includes psychiatrist Dr. Munne and Director of Client Care Diana Dinglada. It took his case manager a month to call me back in a timely manner. Then, ate you ready? They suddenly changed his case manager last week. Without word. I gave been trying to get their help in getting Agency on Aging funding which he is already on a high level of priority to put him in Assisted Living, or in a nursing home because he has that funding. I guess the plan is to let my brother rot there, even though they agree that he doesn't need to be there for mental health services. They still refuse to call me back. Do not endanger your loved ones there!!!
