I had a disappointing experience with this psychiatrist (Paige Kramer). It felt like she was more focused on billing and being paid than genuinely helping her patients well-being. When I asked for her thoughts on an important issue, she dismissed my question as "inappropriate," which left me feeling invalidated. I wouldn t recommend her if you re looking for a compassionate and supportive professional. Never will be back. Honestly this whole experience was sickening.

It looks like my original review was taken down so I m leaving another one. Do not go here. In 2020, I made an appointment to get diagnosed with a few things by a psychiatrist here after being told the entire thing would be covered by insurance. To clarify, I m not an idiot, and I wouldn t have made the appointment if I knew it wasn t covered because I knew my financial situation at the time and wouldn t have willingly done anything to further damage it. Anyway, had the appointment, whatever, and then got slapped with a huge bill in the mail that I absolutely couldn t pay. Fast forward a bit, I was in crisis, suicidal, and desperately needed to see my therapist. They would not allow me to see my therapist until I paid that bill. So I left a review here. Someone responded and basically said what they do to everyone else here that leaves a bad review: here s our number! Call us and we can resolve this! So I called, and what did they say? Oh, well if you just pay a little on this bill we d have no problem setting you up with your therapist. No! No, ma am! That s not how this is going to work! Not after I was lied to and received a surprise bill and was denied critical mental health assistance because y all are greedy and want my money! Anyway, tl;dr is do NOT go here, don t send anyone here, and definitely don t believe anything they say in regards to money/billing.

Accepted Insurance

Our Policy: Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services – Jellema Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

daily iconDaily

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Pine Rest offers residential treatment services on their southeast Grand Rapids campus. Transitional housing is also available for people who need safe and sober housing after residential treatment.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
This outpatient treatment group provides a safe and supportive learning environment for persons recovering from substance use disorders. This service is ideal for those who have already completed other treatment programs and need continuing care or for those who have had some recovery success but struggle with relapse. The group meets for 90 minutes once a week. The new member is asked to commit to attending 12 consecutive groups/weeks. Attendance beyond 12 weeks is permissible and encouraged if continued support is needed.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. The family program is a 10-week series designed to assist family members in understanding the disease of addiction and to develop healthy coping skills.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I m appalled! My friend is being discharged today after only 3 days of therapy after a suicide attempt. They ve done nothing but encourage her delusions and victim mentality. They are letting her out without even a stable home to go back to! If she kills herself it is ON YOU pine rest! I m terrified for her future.

Came in with anxiety and depression, came out with anxiety, depression, fear of therapy, fear of opening up to people, and PTSD from how abusive and cruel this place was. Just no. Dr. Meizinger threatened me (I was a child at the time) and told me that the only way I would only get treatment, the only way I would ever feel happy again, was if I went to the in-patient program. He never told my parents that, just me. He threatened me and made me believe that I was being dramatic and that my feelings didn t matter. Later, after I went through the partial program, he recommended to my parents that they force me to do full in-patient again, against my will. I would go into more detail, but it would give me a really bad flashback, I m already going through some right now. All I can say is that it ruined my life and haunts me to this day. The pain is my shadow, my constant companion. I beg you, please please don t go here, please. This place destroyed me, don t let it destroy you too. I wouldn t wish this place upon my worst enemy. To all my fellow broken folk here, desperately promoting all the negative reviews of this place, trying to save others from the torture you went through, thank you. Thank you for your kindness and generosity and willingness to put yourself through flashback-hell, just so others don t experience the excruciating pain you do every day, thank you. You deserve better than this, and it s astonishing how you can be so kind to others. I appreciate you, and your pleas are being heard. Together we can change this. We can warn everyone of this hell on earth, and maybe, slowly and patiently, heal from our wounds.

I was recently in Pune rest Aspen unit for 5 days. I was in a dark spot I m also pregnant so my hormones are wicked right now, They did help me find the right medication but they have a few things they could work on, the food needs to be better they want people to eat but don t serve food that s even remotely good they could also have at least two choices to pick from not just this is what you get. I liked the activity therapists but the techs and the nurses were rude and not sympathetic at all and would spend a lot of time socializing instead of interacting with patients even if you came to the nurses station they would get short for bothering them. They should also have more one on one time with a therapist or psychiatrist instead of just group therapy. The communication between shift changes was horrible, my husband and I both had trouble with them communicating about important paperwork or even my discharge until an hour before I was discharged with a lot of loose ends still existing. I also seen a comment of them shining a bright flash light in your face about every half hour at night for checks, I would prefer you just open the door and check than put a whole light in my face and then ask how I slept the next morning. Grateful for the little bit that they did help with but I will never go inpatient there again.

First, thank you very much to all the staff, my daughter was in the partial program, they helped her a lot and she felt wonderfully well, everyone was very attentive, pleasant and empathetic. I would not recommend Kimberlee Prose. During my diagnosis she l made a ton of in sensitive remarks such as I guess some people have more problems than others She also made a lot of assumptions and did not really listen to my concerns. Very unprofessional.

DO NOT under any circumstances disclose your gender identity or sexual orientation. My case manager told my parents all of this information without my permission and without informing me that it would be disclosed and now our relationships are strained at what is quite possibly the worst time in my life. I tried to appeal that this was a breach of information but they told me they are unable to determine if there was a breach of my confidentiality. There was essentially no consequence for them doing this. I don't know what to do legally about this.
