I cant speak about the adult side, but I was here for 2 years starting in 1992 at the young age of 13. I was court ordered and it is one of the worst experiences of my life. When I finally got out, I felt like an alien around my peers. I didn't know any pop culture references or even how to act with other kids my age. And that's coming from a guy that went to war in Iraq and lost his legs. If you are a parent and thinking of sending your child here PLEASE DON'T!! Unless you want to give them life long trauma. I have kids of my own now. One just turned 13. I would never in a million years let any program like this get ahold of them.

Accepted Insurance

Phoenix House Orange County works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Phoenix House’s adult outpatient services are a comprehensive array of substance abuse and mental health programs – all using evidence-based practices – delivered in safe, supportive, CARF-accredited settings. Within their continuum of care, every client is treated with compassion, dignity, and respect, and our services emphasize each client’s self-esteem and individuality. Their goal is to help each individual maintain lasting recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and become a productive member of society.
inpatient iconInpatient
Phoenix House’s residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment services are wide-ranging and comprehensive, allowing us to tailor each client’s treatment solutions to meet individual needs. Lengths of stay are flexible and programs are designed to meet the treatment needs of clients at various points in their recovery — from detoxification to re-entry into the community. It is the goal of Phoenix House’s residential programs to equip clients with the skills and resources they need to develop as healthy individuals and to maintain functional, productive relationships with their families, schools, workplaces, and communities.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
When addicted, quitting your drug of choice suddenly can be dangerous. That's why experts agree a medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from the body. Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

The goal of creative arts therapy in California is to encourage growth and transformation. It can be used in individual and group settings with both children and adults. Options include movement, music, and painting.

Isolation isn t good especially in recovery. My boyfriend just did a year in county jail and was released to this place. He isn t allowed to have visitors or go on passes. This is not safe for a recovering addict. This is actually a trigger how does this place expect anyone to stay clean? Recovery isn t making the patients feel like prisoners. Or is only about the money you receive for each patient.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Karie, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we hear your concerns about your loved one. Being away from those we love, especially during difficult times is tough on everyone. With that said, At Phoenix House we are passionate about healing individuals, families and communities challenged by substance use disorder and related mental health conditions. The Orange County Residential Program provides an environment in which change is possible. Our treatment approaches are time-tested and have consistently proven successful in the most difficult substance abuse cases. For everyone s safety admitting clients are separated until we receive confirmation that they test negative for COVID, which is typically one day. Since time in Residential Treatment is so brief, visitors are not permitted and passes are limited to urgent needs so that clients can focus on their recovery. If clients are interested in family/couples therapy, they will be provided with a therapist to constructively work on issues. We are happy to continue this conversation specific to your situation, please reach out our Admissions team at (714) 953-9373 or ocadmissions@phoenixhouseca.org

This place is the shizznizz the food great! They have a big campus. Would be better if they were Co-Ed they have the girls and guysseparate that's the only downer, I been here since the 1-12-23 only suppose to do 2 months but they have a gym I'm going to get a extention for another month ") They have Counselors that are very nice and beautiful lol

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thank you for your honest review. We also take pride in how spacious our campus is. We will definitely pass along your thoughts on the food, our staff cooks will appreciate it. We realize that part of the recovery process is to create bonding relationships with people, however through our years of experience in the field of recovery, we have found that separate programming for men and women provides clients the ability to have a clear focus on their treatment goals and are much more likely to find success in their recovery. We are rooting for you and thank you for allowing Phoenix House to be on this journey with you.

They expect you to buy most of your own food and they are grossly understaffed. They're just trying to make as much money off of you as possible.

I am currently doing treatment at The Phoenix House and the staff here promotes inappropriate behavior. The staff at this location are very unprofessional they antogonize clients and they do not listen to client concerns. They allow the Caucasian clients to bully, harass, slander and physically attack colored clients without any consequences. Furthermore, as in my situation I have been harrassed, stalked, slander and threatened by 2 Caucasian clients and instead of addressing my current concern they are turning a blind eye and addressing previous issues that I was not made aware of until I started voicing current problems. One of the staff members told a client that he was part of the ARIAN Brotherhood. There have been no reprecussions to the 2 individuals for threatening me. When I wanted to leave and my family had arrived at the Phoenix House to pick me up I was not allowed to leave. I have spoken to almost every staff member here and they are unwilling to address my concerns. I have been sleeping with pens under my pillow in case I am attacked by one or both of these individuals for 2 nights now. I find myself in a worst state of mind than the one I came in here with. My efforts in seeking staff assistance to help to feel safe here have failed. Now they want to kick me out while it is raining.I find myself in distraught over this situation while being concerned of my safety. Several other clients with the resources to leave are deciding to leave this place. This has been the worse experience of my life and I am anxiously waiting for my family to return home so they can pick me up
