Paradigm Treatment - Teen & Young Adult Mental Health

About Paradigm Treatment – San Rafael

Paradigm Treatment - San Rafael provides substance abuse and co-occurring mental health care in San Rafael, California. They offer residential treatment for adolescents 12 to 17 years old. These services provide temporary homes so guests can focus on healing without outside distractions interfering with treatment. They do not accept Medicaid or Medicare plans. They work with many health insurance plans and will help you verify your coverage before treatment.

The program length of stay is typically 35 to 60 days, depending on your progress and severity of symptoms. One of the unique components of their program is the dual treatment of behavioral issues and substance use. Guests attend intensive individual sessions four times each week and multiple daily group sessions. Family therapy is also included to address relationships problems and help loved ones navigate sobriety challenges.

They also emphasize physical activity, which may help keep adolescents engaged in treatment with an outlet to enjoy alongside intense treatment methods. The team supports nutrition and academic areas to give a more comprehensive approach to recovery.

They also use holistic methods like art therapy, music therapy and mindfulness practices. These approaches can promote relaxation, improve mental health and increase self-expression. They can help teens channel stress in healthier ways. There are also recreational therapies that keep youth engaged in treatment. These therapies can improve mental health and promote communication skills and social interaction.

Although Paradigm Treatment considers this a short term program, it uses the time for intense treatment. Adolescents have temporary homes where they feel secure and safe while working toward recovery.

Accepted Insurance

Paradigm Treatment – San Rafael works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
When addicted, quitting your drug of choice suddenly can be dangerous. That's why experts agree a medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from the body. Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

The goal of creative arts therapy in California is to encourage growth and transformation. It can be used in individual and group settings with both children and adults. Options include movement, music, and painting.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

When you are in a position of desperation, you need a life buoy. I hope many dont have to go through this, but Innercept threw us a line and it saved our lives. No place is perfect and especially in the landscape of RTCs there is no Utopia, but the setting and treatment received was exceptional and they do care. Which honestly means the most.

Our 16yo daughter spent 5 weeks at Paradigm. The therapeutic approach met her exactly where she was and helped her immensely. She is happier, more grounded and incredibly insightful after treatment. The family therapy sessions were the best we've had. I highly recommend Paradigm if you are considering treatment for your kid. They really care for your whole child.

(I went a year ago so things may have changed)I'll start with the good, most of the staff are really nice the rules are pretty normal for these types of places it's more freedom in some ways and less in others for residential programs the house was nice food pretty good if your not a picky eater other kids were wonderful (but that changes) now on to the bad like I said in the beginning MOST of the staff are nice but the others it felt like they had some bizarre control complex, were unprofessional at times and just were rude and didn't know how to deal with panic attacks or stronger emotions. They had this weird thing where they said they didn't have any punishments but if someone had a breakdown or something we would get privileges taken away very quickly like outtings dessert or movie time, things that happened once a week if that. They would not let transgender kids share a room with others of the gender they identified with or even bathroom. You had to be in every group or do a worksheet it didn't matter if you were having a panic attack or whatever they seemed understaffed. You weren't allowed to call people outside of your family members. The school situation wasn't great I failed multiple classes when I was there. They would make frequent room changes would ask you who you would not want to share a room with and then put you with them so you could "get over your triggers" this not being the biggest problem since we weren't allowed in our rooms all day even to change clothes. In conclusion do I recommend this place, if you have outbursts and really bad panic attacks and are dealing with heavy mood swings or anger issues no however if you are dealing with something that is "calmer" (I guess is the best way to put it) than maybe but just be aware most places like these aren't ideal but this is the worst ones I've been to.
