Save your money and time. Owner will mouth you off and treat you less than. The place will tell you its pet friendly but if they don t like something about your dog you get an ultimatum to leave or find someone to take care of your dog. Avoid at all costs. Oh yeah if you actually want to live by the beach then is DEFINITELY not the place. One of their homes here used to be a brothel.

Accepted Insurance

Pacific Bay Recovery San Diego works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare
12-step icon12-Step
Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Family therapy offers a platform for members to have an open dialogue about the challenges that addiction has placed on the family unit. Through guided sessions, therapists can help families develop healthy communication skills and address unresolved issues. By working together toward a common goal, they help to support their loved one's sobriety.

While in rehab treatment, you may work on developing various life skills to help you in long term recovery. These may include resilience, interpersonal skills, and self awareness. The focus will be on developing healthy habits for self care and relationships so you have the skills you need to manage day to day life.

Substances can prevent the absorption of nutrients and cause damage to your body's systems. Nutrition therapy in California addresses the deficiencies in vitamins and minerals that are caused by substance abuse.

Recreational therapy is included in alcohol and drug addiction treatment to focus on engaging you in healthy activities that reduce your cravings and improve your overall health and well being. When you participate in group sports, art, or nature walks, you develop new interests and find a meaningful way to spend your time and reduce your cravings.

I was here in 2014 and I am horrified that this treatment center is still open. Dr. Duffy diagnosed me with bipolar before I stepped foot in this treatment center . Dr. Duffy diagnosed me with bipolar disorder based off the conversation my mother had with him regarding how much money he is going to get out of her. Dr. Duffy had a prescription of lithium ready to go for me when I arrived. Dr. Duffy set up surveillance cameras upstairs to record my every move after I had left/snuck out one day because of the hell that was this treatment center and also because I was struggling addict who was in the midst of alcoholism. The response to that behavior was shocking to say the least. YOU ARE A SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT CENTER. You have a struggling client and know so little about how to deal with someone in the middle of their active addiction that you respond by threats, screaming, and setting up surveillance cameras? Setting up video cameras in a home of a residential treatment center is so beyond illegal, terrifying, and predatory. Dr. Duffy stood in front of the door in his office screaming in my face without letting me leave. Dr. Duffy constantly threatened me with being put on a psych hold. All these reviews are either from paid-for bots that follow the same review formula (mention a specific staff member that was great/use obnoxious phrases to describe the best decision of their life), or, very clearly, people who actually went to this treatment center.I see that you respond to all comments with a copy/paste, cheeky response and the typical I m so sorry for your experience and B.S. and B.S and more B.S. You don t need to do that here. I know you are just sooo sorry for my experience.Dearest doctor, there s a reason your license was revoked in Mississippi. Oh, and ouch, bankruptcy?! That s no fun.

THIS RECOVERY CENTER SAVED MY LIFE AND DR DUFFY IS WONDERFUL AND CARING!! I was there in 2018 when I was 54 years old and I was on opioids and benzodiazepines. Back then the recovery center preformed what was called BLOOD CLEANING. Looking back on it I was SO glad that I lived on the east coast cause going through it was the hardest thing I ever did. I owned a boat dealership and a company that worked in the medical field so I spent almost 3 months at the center cause I had been on opioids and benzodiazepines for over 20 years. All the folks that worked there were very caring and kind I missed every body when I returned back home. Being sober was the best feeling and I really needed to be clear minded because I knew I had to change my life or I would end back abusing pills again. I put my boat dealership property up for sale and notified the medical system that I would not sign a new contract. I learned from Pacific Bay to respect the power of pills over me and that was the MOST important thing I learned because I have multiple sclerosis and I deal with a lot of pain and by the beginning of 2019 I was in a pain center getting injections in my back to no avail. I was put on opioids for the pain but I do not abuse them at all and because of my MS I am a major insomniac so I take medication for the insomnia. I sold my dealership property in 2019 right before the pandemic but it took till 2021 to get my company out of the medical field. I am just so grateful that I learned to respect the medication that I need to be on because both of my patients passed away in 2022 and before the end of that year I had to use a walker to get around not only outside of my home but inside of my home. Grateful my parents got to see me and know me sober again and happy that they knew I was on opioids but they couldn t tell that I was on them because I took them only when I need them and I do not over use them! Pacific Bay Recovery and Dr Duffy saved my life!

If I could give more Stars I definitely would, I can't say enough about this amazing treatment Center. The entire staff went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. They truly care about each of us and it shows. The reviews about the food are ridiculous and should be taken down. This is Rehab for crying out loud NOT the freaking Ritz Carlton. This goes to show you that people will find any reason to complain. I would recommend this treatment center to anyone who is serious about their sobriety. I am not able to name any staff members because every single one did an outstanding job. Please let this center be your path to getting clean and sober!

I had a great time while I was here. I m currently in the PHP portion of the program and am satisfied with the lessons taught here at PBR. Im finally resolving traumas that led me to drink in the first place. For the first time in a long time I m actually hopeful; for the first time in my life I m actually looking forward to getting older. :)

DO NOT GO HERE! I left after getting locked into the area my room was in. I was screaming for about 5 minutes at the top of my lungs before someone came. Good thing it wasn't an emergency and I just wanted to eat. All they had was a frozen meal for me...so much for a chef. Mostly males, so if you are a female with trauma, not a good choice. They kept my epilepsy medication when I left and did not tell me. They wouldn't let me make any phone calls, even my "safety call." Jess was the only nurse that was nice to me. The other staff were rude and yelling for other clients to come take meds, not exactly a soothing environment to detox in. They do a great job selling the place on the phone. They are in it for the insurance $$.

Response from the owner9 months ago
Hi Rachel, I am sorry to hear your experience was not a positive one. We did not keep your medication as you were not here long enough for us to collect anything. Our program is co-ed which you were informed prior to coming in. Nevertheless, Thank you for your feedback. We wish you nothing but the best.

The worst experience of my life.I couldn t agree more with the other one star review. Dr. Duffy could sell sour milk to a cow . What a perfect description. If you are an adult with any sense of self respect and free will, don t take these guys seriously. Even less so if you are a professional of any sort. The experience is beyond demeaning.I felt like I was in Kindergarten, except I actually liked Kindergarten. They treat you like a child and on top of it are totally incompetent in the areas that matter most in detox. What a joke. Don t rely on basic principles of manipulation to try to indoctrinate your patients. And please, for the love of humanity, do NOT allow patients going through detox to gang up on another patient, while you stand there and make assumptions with no modicum of critical thinking whatsoever. That is just blatantly irresponsible. You guys pretend to be doctors and administrators. My grandfather was an MD/PhD and world renowned cancer researcher. Thoughtful, rational, logical, objective. Everything PBR is not.I wish parents and individuals could reach out to me to hear my ridiculous account of how inept this company is.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thank you for reaching out and leaving a review. I am sorry to hear that your experience with Pacific Bay Recovery 3 years ago was not to your satisfaction. It is important to understand that taking direction from the medical team is not intended to make you feel like you are in Kindergarten but rather vital to your treatment, safety, and health. Furthermore, our doctors are not here to sell you anything but provide you ways on making healthy choices to help you in your journey to recovery. We appreciate hearing from you and hope that you are in good health. We always wish you the best, please feel free to reach out so we can discuss your concerns in more detail.
