Oxford House Willowick offers self managed, self sustaining residences for people recovering from drug abuse in Austin, Texas. Residents can share their stories and support one another on their recovery path in this encouraging drug and alcohol free setting.

There is no designated house manager or outside authority in this shared living arrangement. Rather, residents adopt shared responsibilities, which promotes responsibility and cooperation. Everyone is welcome to stay as long as they don’t cause any trouble, stay sober and pay their fair share of the household bills.

Individuals in recovery can apply to join and have their applications reviewed by current members. Following an interview, 80 percent of the current residents must agree for approval.

In order to increase capacity when demand for beds outpaces supply, existing residents frequently look for other housing options rather than asking newcomers to wait. It is easier to build more homes to meet demand because of the self run model of these homes.

Although most people stay for a year or more, many remain for three years or more, enjoying the freedom to stay as long as they maintain good standing. Monthly rent and shared expenses like phone, cable and utilities are paid for by each member under the equal expense share system. Each member pays the same amount, guaranteeing equity and shared responsibility within the community even though payment schedules differ. Some houses collect costs on a monthly basis while others choose a weekly approach.

12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
