About Ohlhoff Recovery Programs – Outpatient Services

Ohlhoff Recovery Programs has an outpatient drug use disorder treatment center in San Francisco, California. They offer multiple levels of rehab care to adolescents, adults and people of retirement age. They also have teen intervention modalities for youth ages 12–18 exhibiting risky behaviors like underage illegal drinking.

Patients have access to a full continuum of care here. That means they can step up or down depending on their personal needs. If they need more support, they’ll enter an intensive outpatient program. They can also choose to receive less support they receive as they transition from one stage to the next.
They specialize in psychoeducation, process therapy and counseling services for individuals and families. They also have somatic therapeutic options that address the thoughts and feelings related to addiction and the pivotal connection between the brain, body, and mood. Motivational therapy helps you dig even deeper, examining personal reasons and unconscious tendencies that thwart genuine attempts to stop drinking.
People who have personal experience in the organization’s offerings all seem to agree that the food and the atmosphere were highly desirable and supportive. It’s nice to hear a care provider not skimping on the amenities as a general rule, because it shows they’re not willing to cut corners to save time or money. One person said their program saved their life.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.

12-step icon12-Step

Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

When addicted, quitting your drug of choice suddenly can be dangerous. That's why experts agree a medically assisted detox is the safest way to remove addictive substances from the body. Usually done in an inpatient setting, your vitals signs and overall well being are consistently monitored and rechecked in order to keep you safe and ensure the detox is successful.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

For clients who are struggling with ambivalence toward change, motivational interviewing in California can help strengthen their commitment to change. Using a conversational method, the therapist helps you explore your motivations and empowers you to make the changes you desire.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is a structured approach used by therapists to help you heal from a past traumatic event. Your therapist works with you to identify the traumatic memory and process the information so you experience emotional healing and a sense of safety and stability.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

This is the best rehab and recovery program I have found. I experienced bad and researched my ass off on rehabs. I prayed for the best program for me and I found it. The food is excellent! The counselors truly genuinely care and the director was caring and helpful and kind from the very beginning. I cant tell you how grateful I am to be at Ohlhoff and working a solid program and in the hands of caring professional therapists, counselors, director and staff. THIS IS THE BEST IN THE INDUSTRY! If you want positive results and have the desire to recover this is the place to be.

This program is run by only an all white staff that is terribly culturally incompetent. As a queer women with Latina roots I was gravely disappointed at the cultural appropriation demonstrated not only by the junior staff who are not currently licensed but by the program director Hillary who is the only licensed staff member. I was shocked and dismayed by the fact that Hillary was not open to constructive criticism regarding her staffs white dominance and cultural incompetence. They introduced an indigenous Hawaiian chant to group one day and I mentioned to the group that it was in fact cultural appropriation, however, it went completely unaddressed by the junior counsellors who seemed completely incompetent at handling conflict in a group therapy setting. Additionally, Hillary was defensive and unwilling to listen to critics regarding her staff. She refused to hear that her staff needed to increase their learning curve regarding cultural competence and assured me that they were in fact culturally competent when their actions reflected the exact opposite. Hilary's professionalism was compromised by her defensive nature. The program deeply disappointed me and it became clear that the program largely serves wealthy, heterosexual, white men. This is a great disappointment and is a disservice to society by creating barriers to care for the LGBTQ community and for people of color.

Hi Catharine, thank you for your concern and feedback. We are taking it very seriously. All the staff you mention no longer work for Ohlhoff. In order to provide individuals with supportive and effective treatment, we strive to be as sensitive and open minded as possible. Thus, we are saddened that you did not feel your concerns were adequately addressed and encourage anyone in the future to voice any issues to the Program Directors. We sincerely hope you are doing well and in good health.
