About Life Stone Counseling

Life Stone Counseling is a behavioral health facility located in Midvale, Utah. They treat people who have substance use disorder (SUD) and alcohol use disorder on an outpatient basis. They provide medication management as well. They treat people who suffer from mental health issues and addiction issues concurrently.

They accept private insurance as well as self-pay. They have a low cost program that offers hour-long psychotherapy sessions for $80 for those patients who qualify.

You will receive a full assessment to determine the level of SUD you are experiencing and the type of treatment that will work best for you. If you need inpatient treatment or a supervised detox, the staff here can refer you to an inpatient facility.

They have many different psychotherapists in this office. Some of them specialize in treating people with addiction issues. You may participate in both group and individual therapy.

The staff uses several different methodologies to treat clients. Most people who suffer from SUD are treated with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This method teaches the client to think in a less negative more realistic way in order to change destructive behaviors.

People with concurring disorders may be treated with dialectical behavioral therapy. This is a type of CBT designed for those who experience emotions very strongly. It teaches them to accept reality and try to change behaviors that hurt them.

Some of the psychotherapists here employ less often used techniques such as art therapy or Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). This service teaches people that having healthier relationships with others is the key to stopping harmful behaviors.

Accepted Insurance

Life Stone Counseling works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I just have to say, out of any therapy clinic I've been to, this is the best one! Specifically because they do EMDR which has helped me the most. I saw one therapist a few times before they moved on to their next life adventure and I came back several months later. I started seeing another therapist about a year ago and they have been doing a PHENOMENAL JOB with helping people like myself with past traumas. The front desk gals at this location, are always so friendly too, and just greet you with a smile each time you go in. Very pleased with this place and I continue to look forward to working with them all for the next while too.

Final update 8/24/2024We had received another bill in January. I called the collections and told them that they need to work it out with life stone since life stone had repeatedly told me that my account was clear. I guess I had to do life stones job in the end and help clear up their mistake.Update 11/2/23Received a forget me not bill today! Sure shows they care. I'll see you next month.Update 10/5/23Received the same old, hey you still owe us money thing in the mail I wonder how long I can keep this going. I'll see you next monthUpdate 9/12/23Received another overdue bill for $130. We've called multiple times to check the issue and they continue to tell us we have a zero balance. Billing nightmare. Thanks Lexi (she's over accounting)Update! We keep receiving bills and letters from collections even though we have a zero balance. In response to the clinics response below, I just told the front staff that Lexi in accounting is unprofessional for not taking phone calls about billing issues. The fact they took that as offensive should show how frustrating it is to work out billing issues.Come here if you want to be gas lighted into paying bills that change constantly. Over the year or two now of my wife meeting with them, we have had consistent billing, scheduling, and communication issues with Life Stone. The stress and anxiety that this has caused my wife is not worth the counseling that they provide. We will be taking our business and health to someone that cares enough to call us back.I've tried very hard being reasonable and patient with them but ultimately, Lexi in the accounting department doesn't have a phone... so you can only talk with the front office staff that don't know how to help you. The front office staff are kind and don't deserve an upper management that abuses them by not stepping in to work out the mistakes made by.. you guessed it.. the upper management (or in this case Lexi). The office staff offered to have Lexi email me or call me, but Lexi typically takes another week or two before getting back to you. In the meantime more billing issues come up because more appointments happen during that time and then you are billed incorrectly again. The online portal provided during each session would consistently charge us and display incorrect amounts (due to our account being billed or set up incorrectly). This is what would cause my wife great anxiety because she knows how we are on a tight budget and often paying for sessions without insurance due to our personal circumstances. By the way, without insurance an appointment can cost somewhere around $140 - $205 for 45 minutes (honestly I'm not sure what it costs to this day).We are extremely disappointed and hurt at how they don't seem to care enough to work out billing issues with those that have been with them for so long. Is a good therapist worth a billing department that doesn't care about your needs? For us, the answer became a clear no. We can do and deserve better.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate all forms of input, as it helps us improve our services. However, after carefully reviewing your review, we would like to address a few inaccuracies and provide a comprehensive perspective on the matter. First and foremost, we understand that billing concerns, particularly with medical billing, can be frustrating, and we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. However, we would like to clarify that our billing process adheres strictly to industry standards. We make every effort to ensure accurate and transparent invoicing, which is an ever revolving process as we are dependent on insurance companies reimbursement rates and timeframes. If clients do have a concern about billing, we take great pride in providing exceptional customer service, as our staff is committed to treating all individuals with respect and professionalism. In the case you mentioned, our records indicate that there were instances where our staff members faced inappropriate behavior and disrespect from your party. We have a responsibility to protect the well-being of our employees, and there are certain boundaries that we must enforce to maintain a safe and harmonious working environment. While we understand that frustrations can arise in various situations, we kindly request that you engage with our staff members in a respectful manner. We appreciate constructive feedback and are here to address your concerns professionally. Thank you!

Don t have much good to say about this place/my experience. The front desk was clueless on what to charge for a co-pay. Doctor (not an M.D.) Kimberly seemed clueless and apathetic towards me and my mental health. I am dealing with severe depersonalization and dissociation, and was told no medication will help you, try meditation . You d think someone in the mental health field would be more empathetic, or at least validate my concerns. I ve found another provider (a real doctor that went to medical school) elsewhere, who shows compassion and empathy towards me.
