My daughter has been going to best self( different locations) since 2013. Today she met with a new psychiatrist and I'm appalled at the way she treated my daughter. When I asked if she could change her psychiatrist I was told they are not doing transfers right now. Well you better do something before I take action!!

Accepted Insurance

Lake Shore Behavioral Health – Lackawanna Counseling works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a structured way of helping those with major mental illnesses and/or substance abuse by bringing services directly to the patient in home. Instead of hospitalization or an outpatient program, staff members like social workers, psychiatrists, and counselors come directly to the patient’s house for treatment. ACT is used primarily for those with severe and persistent mental illness like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, some of whom also contend with substance abuse. ACT can be short- or long-term (months to years), and provides the same multidisciplinary, 24/7 staffing of a psychiatric unit, but in the comfort of the patient's own home and/or community.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Luckily for me, I got an amazing counselor. She really helps me with everything, especially with my anxiety. She is lovely, and she always goes far and beyond to make sure the treatment she is giving me works. However, I'm not pleased with several members of the staff, becau ... Read More

I would not recommend this place IF you are in need of any kind of medication / prescription for recovery and or mental health issues. They constantly screw up appointments and pharmacy deliveries, and if there is some kind of emergency, you probably won t be able to get in touch with anyone. I ve been going here less than one year, and already there have been two major incidents. The first one, someone forgot to put my next appointment into their information systems. So I showed up and was told I had no appointment that day. They looked at the notes for the last appointment, and while it said I should have another one in a month, the person forgot to actually enter it in to the calendar. The second incident, I lowered the dose of my medication on recommendation from a provider at my previous appointment, however on the day of the next appointment, the first one where I would have had the lower dose, I showed up and was told the pharmacy delivered the wrong (previously prescribed) dose. Even though they called the pharmacy and had them check in advance that s what they said anyway. If I or any other patient were this incompetent at *our* jobs, we would be fired immediately. Update: Happened again! Showed up for an appointment and was told I had no appointment that day. They checked the notes from the previous appointment and once again, the person wrote down that I was to have another appointment in a month, but didn t actually go ahead and enter it into their calendar appointment system. That makes incident number three, lol. The only upside is that I m going be done with outpatient soon, so only one more future appointment at this place. Can t wait to see how they screw that one up

My counselor and med prescriber are great, but almost every time I call I wait for 10+ minutes then I'm immediately sent to voice-mail. I called 4 times this morning as my medications haven't been refilled despite me calling the med line twice and having an appointment with my med prescriber. Very frustrating.

Worst experience of my life. I have been a patient here since 2018 and lost my health insurance about a month ago. I called and talked to a receptionist and explained the situation and that in the mean time I wouldn t be able to attend my appointments which I was told wouldn t be a problem. I finally got back on health insurance but I got a letter today saying I am no longer enrolled as a patient at Best Self on Abbott Corners. When I called and explained the situation again I was given no sympathy and was not able to be put back under the care of my counselor which honestly is fine as she was not helpful at all. But my prescriber, I have been seeing since 2020 and has been extremely helpful in working with me to find a fitting medication. Now, I am not even able to say goodbye to her after working with her for 4 years of my life. Additionally, I will not be able to get a refill on my medication that I NEED for my multiple mental illnesses. To make things worse Effexor (my medication) has horrible withdrawal symptoms like fever, chills, vomiting, etc. They said they would be happy to re-enroll mewith their services but the earliest appointment available would be mid-May. This means I will not be receiving my medication for a whole month as well as I will not be under the care of my previous practitioner. This is absolutely disgusting that a mental healthy facility would cold-turkey stop the care and medication of one of their patients who is in needs. Disgusting and unprofessional.

although I love my counselor and psychiatrist, it is a nightmare to schedule.. and if you need to contact your psychiatrist in an emergency, it is not possible. their supposed 24/7 support line (listed on the BestSelf website) does not exist, and thus there is no way to get in contact with your psychiatrist after hours. Even during clinic hours, there is often no receptionist answering the phone so it sends you to voicemail (after waiting on hold for 10 minutes) even if you call the emergency line. this is very concerning as BestSelf is a clinic for mental health issues!! management needs to improve these problems!

This happens often. Trying to call Orchard Park location. You're put in a phone que. When it gets to one there's a message saying we can't accept calls and they hang up on you. Very unprofessional ! Unacceptable! Shame on this business. For a mental health facility, they should be closed up for unprofessional employees and unhelpful administration.
