About Caron Outpatient Treatment Center

Caron Counseling Services is located in Reading, Pennsylvania. Caron Counseling Services is an outpatient rehab program that serves teen, young adult and adult addicts and their families.

The residential program is for those who need around-the-clock supervision at the initial stages of treatment. Individuals engage in personalized treatment programs that take into consideration the needs and goals of each client. Neurocognitive assessments, trauma treatment, neurofeedback, case management, mindfulness classes, coping skills classes, spiritual support, individual therapy, group therapy, and discharge planning are available. The inpatient program is available in a gender-specific format. Specialty programs include treatment for seniors, young adults, and legal professionals.

As a person completes the residential program, he or she is encouraged to step down into an outpatient level of care. Individuals can continue mental health counseling, participation in peer and community groups, and ongoing treatment with a traditional outpatient program.

Caron Counseling Services accepts most insurance plans, including Amerigroup, Beacon, Magellan, ComPsych, Aetna, and Anthem. Out of network benefits may vary, so it is important to verify coverage with your provider prior to starting treatment.

(This is a long one) I ve had my fair share of therapists before and each time it was a crash and burn situation. It never worked out for me, I always felt like it was too much. I pushed it off until it smacked me in the face. I can genuinely say EVERY SINGLE STAFF MEMBER DOWN TO THE RECEPTIONISTS ( especially Kaela, dr. Nelson, Greg & Nicole for me) welcomed me with opened arms at a time I needed it most. I never not once felt judged nor put down. I was held accountable each step of the way and able to express myself. Each one of them taught me a lot about my triggers, my attachment styles, my anger, the work I had to put in on my self and just the really understanding and loving the overall person I am. They taught me to identify why I was using bad habits to cope with my feelings.I really don t have the words to explain how much they have helped me. If so I would be here all day. Let me try to sum it up.I had never been to therapy long term(some therapists just wouldn t call back). I had never been on medication for my mental health(I would gas light myself and create bad habits to cope). I was in therapy for about a year and a half with kaela, Greg and dr Nelson. Some days I wish I had never left(I moved out the state). Dr. Nelson always listened to me, he helped me understand what was going on mentally. During my time he worked with me to find medications that helped me function daily. It wasn t easy but he never gave up and he never pushed me to take anything I didn t like or want to be on. Greg helped me to look within. He taught me not to bottle up my emotions and how to express what I m feeling in a better way than I was. I have to give my props to Kaela for dealing with me the longest tho. Instantly I clicked with her. She really sets the bar high when it comes to a therapist for me. She listened to me yap on and on and she didn t make me feel like I was a burden with my weekly visits. I actually looked forward to going to my visits.. even when I went back on my word. She didn t make me feel ashamed of myself(No one there did) She always remembered everything, even when I didn t. She made me hold myself accountable for my actions, as she did also. I loved that about her most. She didn t let me slip. She helped me realize why I was doing certain things or why I was reacting the way I would and what they could ve stemmed from. Other therapists didn t do what they did for me mentally, even spiritually. Everyone at Caron is like a family to me at this point. I recommend everyone to come to Caron. All my friends, family, strangers. They made me realize therapy and asking for help wasn t bad after all. If you needed a sign. This is it.

Caron Treatment Center gets 1 star from me solely because my individual counselor was kind and supportive throughout the process and the speakers were inspirational and thoughtful, with stories and histories that shed some light on many patient situations I have seen over my close to 10 years as an RN. Their messages were very educational, even for someone (like me) who has no history of alcohol or drug use/abuse. I would also like to note here that I have the utmost respect for programs like this and the people who seek out treatment when it is necessary.Aside from that, I would NEVER recommend this place to someone who was in my particular situation. For background, I was all but forced by the state board of nursing to undergo an inpatient evaluation for substance abuse because I tested positive for medical marijuana and a prescription medication that I have never taken or even administered as a working RN. The eval was over $7,000 dollars for the 6 night stay, out of pocket and not covered by insurance at all whatsoever.I spent my time there attending 12 step meetings/ counseling/groups, as well as seeing a medical doctor, psychiatrist, and having extensive psychological testing by the psychologist who lead my evaluation team. This psychologist was Alexandra Santoro. This person was extremely disingenuous, and later found to be quite biased in her professional assessment. I spent the first 4 or 5 days being told I should have no problem/issues getting back to work as I have/had a medical card and prescription for the medical Cannabis because I have severe Crohn s disease and PTSD. (My employer at the time had a contract allowing employees like myself to use medical Cannabis with a card and prescription, with guidlines to only use outside of working hours) My using this treatment was prescribed and only used as needed for flare symptoms of these conditions. I was honest in my lack of understanding about the other medication (methadone?) being positive in my previous test, and have ever since (both at Caron and after) never tested positive for this substance again. At Caron, I was negative for all substances aside from THC (which was not even at a high enough level that an OTC test would have read it as positive; showing my use was obviously infrequent and correlated with the PRN prescription for flare symptoms). I was also found to have no signs/symptoms or precursors for any substance use disorders, however was told by Miss Santoro that we are just going to write mild cannabis use disorder . I have done extensive research and spoken with numerous other professionals who specialize in this field, that in order to diagnose a substance use disorder, there are criteria that must be met; However, I did not meet a single one. I have also since spoken to several other professionals who had the unfortunate experience of having Miss Santoro lead their evaluation team, and all have said they felt she was very bias regarding the correlation between mental health diagnosis and substance use disorders. As a healthcare professional, I find it extremely important to understand that correlation does not equal causation. It may very well be common that substance addicts suffer from mental health disorders, but that does not prove that every person with a mental health disorder is guaranteed to be a substance addict. This misdiagnosis on Miss Santoro s part completely ruined my life. I have since been unable to work (totaling 8 months), lost access to healthcare, been restricted from using the only medical treatment for my disorders that ever gave me relief, lost all financial stability, and have had the worst decline in not only my psychical health but also my mental health. It is my honest opinion that this woman has no business being licensed to conduct such evaluations. I fear for those who must have suffered at the hands of this professional and I pray her lack of genuine understanding and compassion don t cause anyone else more undue pain/hardship.

Accepted Insurance

Caron Outpatient Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
They recognize that not every client needs a life-overhaul in order to recover from addiction. Caron Counseling Service’s Primary Outpatient Treatment may be sufficient to help high-functioning individuals get back on track and lead addiction-free lives. Clients who are well suited for this level of care typically hold steady jobs, have supportive families and live in healthy home environments.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Many people who struggle with addiction require and benefit from structured support as they pursue recovery. Intensive Outpatient Treatment may be right for individuals who neither lead stable lifestyles nor feel highly motivated to stop abusing substances. While participating in Intensive Outpatient Treatment, individuals can continue to maintain other commitments, such as work, education, and caring for family. This flexible model affords clients the autonomy they need to seek focused treatment without severely interrupting their lives. Intensive Outpatient Treatment is more aggressive than Primary Outpatient Treatment. This rehab program requires clients to spend 9.75 hours per week at CCS in Pennsylvania for eight weeks.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Clients participate in 2-hour, weekly group therapy sessions for six weeks. These sessions help clients address the clinical problems outlined in their treatment plans in a safe, therapeutic environment where they can explore their own problems and encourage others to do the same. Through the program, CCS staff teach clients how to overcome self-defeating attitudes with new problem-solving and emotional skills.

CCS clients who require individual counseling services are connected to dedicated addiction counselors. During one-on-one sessions, addiction counselors use the client’s evaluation and rehab plan to guide him or her through the process of exploring, verbalizing and working through addiction-related issues. The undivided attention that clients experience during individual counseling sessions equip them to achieve lasting sobriety and healing.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

They begin family counseling after clients have received their evaluations and treatment plans. Counseling sessions examine the addict’s clinical issues and problem areas in the family system, particularly sensitive issues that have never been addressed. This helps families move toward recovery. Family Counseling, facilitated by a licensed counselor, encourages the client’s family to identify, discuss and address issues related to the client’s addiction. Multi-family Counseling group counseling is a forum for multiple families to come together to share experiences and support each other. Multi-family group counseling not only encourages families, it helps them understand the nature and consequences of addiction.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Emotions that surface during experiential therapy can reveal how you've coped with situations in the past. A trained therapist will guide you through conversations about your emotions and reactions either during therapy or in a follow up session. Therapy may include activities such as equine therapy, wilderness therapy, martial arts, drama, music, or art.

It's the best IOP I've been to. Very grateful to say I'm still sober. My counselor was cool. We learned a lot there. If you are still out there struggling, give yourself a break and get into recovery! It gets better

I had the absolute worst encounters with any counselor ever at the outpatient facility in wyomissing, not only do they not encourage people to change the way they think they blatantly disregard peoples opinions and force them to stop sharing how they honestly feel I would never recommend this place to anyone

Response from the owner3 years ago
Mickael, just as we encourage our patients to expand their ways of thinking through emotional regulation and healthy coping skills, we too are continually seeking to grow and evolve the patient experience at Caron. We welcome you to reach out to our Quality and Compliance Department to discuss how we can better serve all of our patients, whether they be in residential or outpatient treatment. Thank you.
