About Bowling Green Brandywine Treatment Center

Bowling Green Brandywine Treatment Center is located on Newark Road in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. They offer inpatient substance use disorder treatment and treatment for adults with co-occurring disorders.

The facility accepts Maryland and Delaware Medicaid. They also take most major insurers. They welcome partnerships with new providers so check with them if you don’t see your provider listed.

There’s an inpatient residential treatment program for adults 18 and older, both women and men. The average stay is between 21 to 28 days but your treatment may be shorter or longer depending on your unique needs.

In the dual diagnosis treatment program, you’ll see a psychiatrist once a week for medication management. You’ll also have a morning process group with your counselor and then move into different psychoeducational programs during the day.

In the regular inpatient rehab program, you’ll learn about the 12 Step recovery model and have a plethora of programs to choose from. Some of those programs include learning about the cycles of behavior and self responsibility, stress tricks, anger and substance use, and making amends.

The dual diagnosis program has many of the same classes, but there are some additional classes as well. Some of these include focused thinking, impulse control, overcoming depression, and clean thinking. You’ll also learn better ways of handling anxiety and stress.

They also offer experiential therapies such as music therapy, Reiki, and meditation. In both program tracks, you’ll have the opportunity to exercise at least once per day. There’s also a weekly family program on Sundays after which you’ll get an hour to meet with your family. They’ll also have the option of an Al Anon meeting.

The center offers a specialized treatment program for pregnant women where they work to help you get through detox and rehab safely for both you and the baby. You’ll also see an OB/GYN as needed.

There’s a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that lasts about 10 days. The PHP is for men who need structured treatment before returning to their home environment. In this program, you’ll live off campus. They’ll provide transportation to the six hour daily program.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Bowling Green, located in Kennett Square, PA, provides residential treatment and rehab programs for men and women, aged 18 and older, who are struggling with substance use disorders and dual diagnosis concerns. Treatment and rehab in these programs features cognitive behavioral therapy and person-centered therapeutic approaches.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for ~ 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Clients who can benefit from this step-down level of care receive group, individual counseling, lectures, relapse prevention, medication management and 12-step education five to seven days a week during the morning and early afternoon.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Because the severity of withdrawal symptoms can fluctuate, constant monitoring under 24-hour clinical care in Pennsylvania is recommended for early recovery. As you undergo detox, medical staff will supervise your health and ensure severe symptoms do not develop or threaten your life. Professional counselors will also be available to treat mental and emotional health needs.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Bowling Green, located in Kennett Square, PA, provides medically monitored detoxification treatment and rehab services for adult men and women, ages 18 and above

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I just recently completed treatment here on the 23rd of August and I feel as tho I need to do a review for this facility. This rehab has its pros and cons . The staff they have at this place need to be removed with exceptions to a few. They have this one tech or BHA named Anthony and he targets the woman community and does anything and everything in his power to get patients kicked out and back onto the streets even if he has to lie in order to get them in trouble. Dawn one of the female counselors believes she is better than everyone and thinks she knows all the answers, yet she has had at least 2 patients pass away in the short time I was there from July until I discharged. In a facility like this you would think that there would be unity within the staff here, but yet they bully and try to get one staff that actually gives a dam about the clients fired. On a more positive note I would LOVE to acknowledge Carissa who is HANDS down the MOST knowledgeable, hard working, dedicated counselor on the women's unit. Carly who is the head of nursing is alongside Carissa when it comes to her drive, dedication and love for the clients at BGB. If it wasn't for these two I have no idea how I would've made it thru.. they took their time to work with me helo me process and grieve things I NEVER thought I'd be able to work thru and stay clean while doing it. They both went above and beyond for me to make sure my aftercare plan to move to Florida after treatment went thru. The communication these two have with each other and the team work they displayed is one for the books. Thank you ladies for EVERYTHING you have done for me the other clients and for being the 5 star employees this rehab needs.

I have been trying to reach them since 7 AM this morning to find out if they were the ones who picked up my father and took him to the wrong Rehab facility I ve left multiple messages. I ve had multiple admissions. People reach out to them regarding his whereabouts so let me know if he s there or not. My next step is going in there with the Chester county sheriffs office who are willing to enter with me

Worst treatment facility I ve ever been to and I m not exaggerating at all. The staff is the worst I ve ever experienced. Not bad people they just don t like to do any sort of work whatsoever. If you need anything you will literally have to chase down about 4 different people b4 you get help or an answer. If you ask nursing they will tell you to go ta a counselor, if you go to a counselor they will tell you to go to a tech. If you go to a tech they will tell you to go to a supervisor or whoever else. There is no structure whatsoever. I waited for 6 days to get put on maintenance and start my subutex taper and and still was never started. They made me wait 3 days to pick me up so i already was going through the worst part of my detox/withdrawal b4 I even got there. They also told me on the phone that they were a detox/rehab facility and I could detox ONLY there for 5 to 7 days. When I got there they told me they are not a detox only facility and I was rehab status. Which means after being lied to and taken to a rehab an hour and a half away, I had to stay for 30 days to complete or I would be considered leaving against medical advice and wouldn t be given a ride home and not given my belongings like my phone and would have to make an appointment to come back 48 hrs later to pick them up. So not only would I be released in the middle of nowhere with no ride I would also have no phone to call a ride or Uber. So it really felt like a setup to get me through the door by telling me I could only detox to get me to do rehab so they would be able to charge my insurance for 30 days instead of 7. Talking to supervisors and filing complaints got me nowhere. Some staff actually do their job but for the most part the staff was lazy and would rather send you on a wild goose chase instead of doing any sort of work. If you ve ever been to keystone in Chester PA, Bowling green makes that place look like a 5 star resort. Seriously

Biggest waste of time ever. Recruiter lied, stating they deal with my meth program all the time, then dumped a series of documents I was to provide them before acceptance. No hardcore addict will do this prior to detox. Once completed they pawned me off to 2 other hospitals who don't answer the phone. They're for teens who's parent's don't know how to handle them.

This is the worst place there is around. They let people go sick and send them to the hospital. While in the hospital they lose people s things. This place is ran horribly and they want to put people on another drug so you re substituting one addiction for another. Money was taken by the staff. It takes anywhere from 3 days to a week before you get your belongings and they don t search your things in front of you so you don t know what they steal from you. Even the security guard said this place needs to be ran better. If the workers are saying that then you know it s bad. These people don t care about you. They just want to get you there so they can charge your insurance.

My husband was recently at Bowling Green. His experience was horrible. After being inpatient for 10 days, Bowling Green abruptly discharged him saying they were notified earlier that day his insurance lapsed. In spite he begged and plead to stay, they arranged an Uber ride and told him to get his insurance figured out and he may be able to return for treatment; however, he had to figure some things out. That Bowling Green detaches you from the outside world, including your family and natural supports, your average lifelines may not be available. And that it is highly discouraged with any outside communication, individuals that are inpatient have not had anytime to resolve, rectify or attempt to neutralize any relationships to even find a place to be dropped off at or reside. Although I was told directly by a staff at Bowling Green that they are not there to repair relationships, AA 101 has this as apart of the treatment process by reconnecting, encouraging natural supports and by making amends with those you may have hurt, especially what may be your only support system. This should be apart of anyone s treatment and recovery plan and process. This may be a personal journey; however, many can t do this alone. The strain on anyone s recovery only gets worse upon your discharge and being reintegrated back into the community. Individuals are going to need someone and should not be simply dropped off on a street corner in a Uber. After running for several days to rectify the insurance , my husband attempted to return and struggled that it was falsely documented that he left AMA. Don t know if the ball was dropped somewhere with his discharge process; however, to falsely document this affects his ability to get back in Bowling Green and even get into another treatment facility right away.My husband called several times and spoke to several different people; however, you can barely get anyone on the phone or have anyone return your calls. You are just shifted from one person to the next as your sobriety lies on the line.Very unfortunate circumstances and how often, as I am also a dedicated worker in this Human Service field, it is so easy to forget while we do what we do everyday and the passion and desire that initially brought us into this field.I do hope Bowling Green gets better. Many people turn to them for help and should be provided the help and support they need when trying to take initiative to combat their substance abuse related issues and not discouraged by the individuals that are there to help them.

I attended bowling Green almost 5 years ago at 23 years old. I was in for heroine detox and was there for about thirty days. The food was actually quite good and the rooms were cleaned as were the bathrooms! Detox can be an absolute nightmare but here I had a nurse coming to check my vitals every few hours and they were so gentle with me. They had rules but not so many that you couldn't breathe which was refreshing as addicts of all ages try to navigate this horrible part of life. I was introduced to methadone through their detox program as they used it to detox opiate patients. I finished my program and quickly relapsed, so I called them asap and this place told me to come right back and they would set me up with methadone maintenance treatment near me. They did exactly as they said! I came back they kept me in detox until I had a intake appointment with my local methadone maintenance center. They got me in and set up all my appointments. I have been clean on that same program they set me up with five years ago. God used bowling Green to lead me to redemption. Thank you for helping save my life!
