About Lake Charles VA Clinic

The Douglas Fournet VA Clinic is an addiction treatment center that offers substance misuse treatment to veterans suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. This particular clinic is located in Lakes Charles, Louisiana, and they treat adults who have served in the military. They offer several outpatient services but do not seem to offer any inpatient or residential services.

Outpatient care is helpful because patients can benefit from therapy while still having the freedom to return home after treatment and tend to any work or home life obligations.

This center offers dual diagnosis care, which means they also treat mental health issues that may be co-occurring with your addiction. Often, veterans can experience trauma during their time on active duty, which may lead to mental health issues including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and schizophrenia. It’s important that veteran clinics such as this one provide specialized care to veterans.

Based on other veteran clinics, we might assume that this clinic offers beneficial programs such as health maintenance services, community support, and counseling services. It’s also possible that they offer services for those who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community or women who may need help with services like maternity care.

As far as counseling, they may offer services such as individual counseling, group therapy, and marriage or relationship counseling. These are each pillars in the recovery process that can help you in several ways. You can learn to identify triggers, deal with past trauma, and even learn coping strategies that can help prevent relapse issues in the future.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients enrolled in rehab aftercare programs have completed high-level treatment and are typically in the maintenance phase of their recovery, receiving customized services designed to support their sustained sobriety. Case managers and care teams typically begin to plan for the client's rehab aftercare services early in the treatment process to ensure the client's fluid reentry into their home, workplace, and community. These programs evolve as clients' needs change, and frequently include peer coaching, relapse prevention, and career counseling.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Third time in a row now. Go through the process of being a burden on the staff because you ask for an appointment to only have it canceled the day of. If you can afford it don't risk your health with this office.

I went eight months without seeing a psychiatrist or a provider dr.....they had me on over 10 different pills and I need psychiatric badly. So what do they do they send me to substance abuse clinic because I told them I use medical Marijuana for the pain they can't treat. Now I have no psychiatric are. That's how they treat mentally sick defenders of our country. Very sad and I'm hurting.

I stop going to the lake Charles VA medical clinic I scheduled a appointment regularly to see my doctor Kathy Cole but the last time I visited to set my appointment I witnessed one of the workers push buttons on a keyboard board and tell me my appointment with my primary care doctor was scheduled but when that schedule date came I was told from the lake Charles VA medical clinic I didn't have a medical appointment that day I was wondering why I never got any mail with my schedule doctor appointment the VA office worker blatantly lied in my face about setting me up with a doctor appointment I know it happens a lot around the country not only in Louisiana

Very nice as the appearance goes. Getting information on what actually you qualify for what's covered and not is, is horrible. I requested to actually sit down with someone or even a phone a call to explain my ratings because I just had them changed, but never a response back

I've been scheduled 3 times. Drive 45 miles only to be told, they didn't have me scheduled. Even if the appointment was canceled due to the doctor, they didn't have the courtesy to call me and let me know. Now they want me to wait another month. UNACCEPTABLE!!!

This clinic is terrible. I sat in the parking lot for over an hour crying my eyes out trying to get help and the VA refused. there have been multiple cases where I ve tried to get help that they couldn t provide and the doctors refused to refer me out of the clinic. How many other people have they turned down. How many people have committed suicide because they ask for help and it s not thereHow many people suffer from chronic pain, all the VA does is trial and error medicine. They are administering unproven therapy and not taking veterans seriously. How many people are living in pain and not getting sufficient treatment. This is an ongoing problem in our Veteran community!!! WE need to fix this!Lake Charles VA I m begging you for help!!!!
