I left a rather negative review a few years back, regrettably. In fact, The Giving Tree is one of the best sober living places in Santa Barbara. I have, in fact, recommended it since my last review, which was maybe 5 or 6 yrs ago. These women are serious about getting their lives back in order, the ideal environment for healing.

Santa Barbara, California | Zona Seca is a private substance abuse treatment program. They provide voluntary and court-ordered outpatient programs to teen and adult clients, including youth offender programs and DUI education programs. Their mission is to make the communities they serve safer through professional, low-cost drug and alcohol treatment and education. You'll find | Treatments Programs Payment Options | A pretty straightforward and simple program, the zoom education is easy and provides quite a good bit of useful information. They provide a pretty simple course that is very easy to complete if you can show up on time every week. The staff are all very helpful and all a pleasure to work with. People complain ALOT about the late fees for missing classes or the way the program is run, it is a state audited program so they have to follow the rules and guidelines set by the state. If you show up on time like you would have to for practically any other meeting in your life it is very easy and you don’t have to pay any additional fees.
Nicolas Cristiani
My experience with Zona Seca has been overall positive. They are a non-profit, not charging for any sort of gain, the fees are there to help control some of the chaos of having to constantly reschedule, etc. There is a wait time to get in, so why would they cater to people who aren't going to do what is needed. The people that work there truly care and want to help. Sometimes that means saying things people don't want to hear, which is another reason I'm sure they get such bad reviews. Yes they are strict about missing classes/rescheduling, but the rules are made VERY clear from the beginning. For those complaining about fees, maybe you should have read the contract when you enrolled?

I had never been in a residential treatment center and I was really nervous, however I did go voluntarily. My experience wasn’t terrible. There were pros and cons for sure, these were:
Pros:
Really good food
Outings were fun
If you were level 3 and above, you could go on off site visitations with your family
Cons:
Leveled me down on my last week while I had been withdrawing from two meds (Abilify and Zoloft)
Made me sit through an intense PTSD flashback and didn’t let me do anything to distract myself (it was to practice a skill, but i really needed help and i felt very distressed)
Tried to punish me and make me stay an extra week for feeling suicidal after leveling me down
Didn’t really do much when another kid was making me feel uncomfortable by making me feel overstimulated
But it was not a very bad experience. I’ve been to two residential treatment centers (both evolve) and this one was definitely the best one I’ve been to.

My son had a great experience here. The team is stellar and treated him like he was their own family. We had a few rough days and they were amazing with keeping me in the loop and making sure to carry out my wishes. He was diagnosed within the first month of what his mental health issues were and they treated him according to what they thought was best for him. They gave us a lot of materials for us to educate us about his disorder, and educated him on what it meant and how to move forward.

We had a truly positive experience with Evolve Teen Treatment in Ojai, CA for our 13/14-year-old daughter. The location is beautiful, right near downtown Ojai, and the environment felt very welcoming from the moment we arrived.
Our daughter struggles with anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and challenging behaviors. At Evolve, she was finally able to find her voice. With the support of the incredible staff and therapists, she learned how to better understand her mental health and, for the first time, could articulate what she was feeling.
Evolve kept her engaged every day with a full schedule of therapy and activities like hiking, surfing, yoga, working out, and healthy meals, which helped her get strong both mentally and physically. She stayed for three months the first time and two months the second time (not typical, but necessary in her case). Coming home was hard, but the setbacks were due more to outside influences than the program itself.
What stood out most was the level of care and dedication from the staff and therapists. They weren’t just there for her, but for our whole family. The family sessions were incredibly helpful in teaching us how to best support her. We learned that it’s not about perfection but about progress and resilience, even when things don’t go as planned.
We were in a place of deep hopelessness before finding Evolve, but the program was truly a godsend. It not only helped our daughter, but also gave us the tools to keep growing as a family. A friend recommended Evolve to us, and now we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with a teen going through hard times. We are forever grateful.

I would describe my experience with Action IOP like a rollercoaster, all because of my own actions. When I got out of Action Residential I wanted to change my life, but I didn't want to stop using. Because of that, I went in and out of IOP, but never once did the counselors OR the clients judge me. They all excepted me with open arms. There was never judgement in the groups or in individual counseling. I can just speak on my own experience, walking through that door, it's like a sense of acceptance and meditation. The counselors, and clients alike, all just want to see the next person to walk through the door make it; because the disease of addiction is deadly. It was the counselors at Action IOP that helped me see that using really was life or death for me, and that I could live a beautiful life without the influence of drugs. I became so excited for groups that I even attended some 3 months after I graduated! The counselors never let anyone walk through that door without giving them a bit of their time, and they never let anyone exit that door feeling defeated. They all are so absolutely dedicated to their "job", because to them it's not a "job"; it's about helping the addict who still suffers.

I showed up to the out patient program pretty defeated and they recommended I come the day I got out of the 30 day program at the Action facility. Glad I took the advice because it helped make me more accountable for my actions and they helped give me the integrity I needed for the days there wasn't classes I could attend. I found myself looking forward to the 3 days a week I went to their meetings. It actually gave me something to look forward to on tuesdays, thursdays and Saturday's and the rest of the week is up to you what you choose to do. I would recommend action out patient to the world if I could. They helped me save my life

My wife and I just finished a major renovation of our home, which included construction of new garage and deck above the garage, a new roof, new doors, new siding, and new hardscape. Corky is wonderful to work with. The quality of his work is outstanding. He doesn't stand for superficial fixes; he is insistent on a complete and thorough job. He has worked with his subcontractors for years and knows who can do the job - they are also great. Corky was responsive to our requests and inquiries and handled everything with the utmost professionalism. We couldn't be more pleased with his work and highly highly recommend him. We also feel that the work was fairly priced and worth every penny.

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical at first about going to a treatment living facility. This was due to my own perceptions and stigma on being open with total strangers on my addiction. I didn't realize that a communal atmosphere is just what I needed to open up and take care of well being. I stayed for 6 months at the Haven House in Long Beach. They had so many resources for me getting my life back on the right track. I found a setting of other guys who had been through so much and were there to listen and to encourage my progress. I honestly felt like staying resort for rehabilitating everything about myself. We did yoga to help the mind and body. We had movie nights to laugh and think and engage in life conversations. The best part was the proximity to the beach. We had a lot of outings and picnics along the Long Beach Shore. I very much recommend this establishment if you wish to progress through addiction and leave all the more better for society.

I discharged from Clearview Treatment Center’s Dual Diagnosis program on 10/10/2025. The experience was difficult but ultimately helpful—I needed stabilization after a month-long marijuana relapse and acute depression. Therapist-led groups were supportive, though tech-led groups were less effective. I learned a lot about advocating for myself, which I had to do often.
My first month was marked by severe marijuana withdrawal: intense emotional swings, dysphoria, anger, sleep problems, nausea, and digestive issues. Staff and the nurse practitioner never acknowledged that I was in withdrawal, which made the experience much more distressing. During one crisis week, despite expressing suicidal ideation, I received minimal support outside a brief therapist session.
I requested non–12 Step recovery meetings due to trauma, and while initially approved, chronic understaffing meant I was required to attend 12 Step meetings with the group. The required 1:6 staffing ratio was rarely met. This left high-needs clients without proper supervision, and at times clients were informally monitoring someone who clearly needed a higher level of care.
Case management was also strained. Only one case manager served all five houses, leading to repeated paperwork delays and mistakes. Limited phone access made managing essential tasks difficult without more support.
Accessibility was another issue. I disclosed mobility limitations before admission, but the facility had far more stairs than described, including at off-site meetings. Only after persistent advocacy were accessible options provided near the end of my stay.
Food was challenging as a diabetic. Meals were often too carb-heavy, breakfast options were minimal, and the only accommodation offered was frozen frittatas. I ultimately purchased my own food.
Overall, Clearview provided some meaningful therapeutic support, but significant issues with staffing, accessibility, crisis response, withdrawal education, and individualized needs remain. I stabilized largely because of my prior long-term sobriety, but I worry about clients newer to recovery who received far less support.

Writing a review of a rehab center is not something I ever thought I'd be doing. However, when a family member was in need of treatment, my family and I were fortunate to have been able to turn to the team at Serenity.
The staff took tremendous care of my relative's needs, as well as the needs of our family. Dr. Shilati and her fantastic staff made us feel comfortable with the process and guided us every step of the way. We are forever grateful for their assistance at one of the hardest moments in our lives.

This treatment center truly changed my life. They not only gave me the tools to overcome my struggles, but also helped me build a community where I no longer felt alone. Through their guidance, I was able to face my shame and trauma and begin to heal. They taught me how to create and maintain healthy relationships with my family and friends, and reminded me that I have something meaningful to live for.
Every single member of the staff was compassionate, dedicated, and left a lasting impact on me. I am deeply grateful for the care and support I received here—it has made all the difference in my recovery and in my life.

I came to La Fuente for the sober living in early Feb of 2011, directly from a 6 day detox. I didn’t know anything about sobriety or treatment, or even interacting w many people at that point, I stayed for 15 months, & I still have my sober date from Jan of 2011. I was treated kindly & respectfully & was given the space I needed to heal, & the structure I needed to learn how to live a happy & sober life. I owe the life I have today to La Fuente & everyone who paved the way for me there. Special thanks to Manny, Anil & Edwin

I would like to thank all of the Wonder staff at Aegis Pasadena, they have helped me in so many ways!
First off I would like to thank Susan (hopefully spelling her name correctly) who was the main manager, there when I got there 10 years ago
- because if it literally wasn't for her, I would possibly still be out in the streets or worse.
idk if she knows this but she literally changed my life that day.
I came at a bad time that day of intake and I wouldn't have been able to dose then because of me coming so late from taking 3 buses to get there, So I was basically going to "check out" and go back to the streets to my addiction and possibly never come back again after I realized I wasn't going to be able to dose then.
To make a long story short - I was able to go to the El Monte Clinic that day and dose there and come back to the Pasadena clinic
So I'm forever thankful to Susan for that day!also for all the chances you gave me! Thank you Susan once again 🙏 🙏 🙏
For all your help in my journey!
I also want to thank Neelam, for bringing light and smiles to Aegis, especially when places like these can get "dark" at times because of where us patients are coming from. So thank you Neelam!!! 🙏
Thank you to all my counselors Jessica & Nadia and the rest I've had there - thank you as well!
Because of you guys I actually like counseling now lol unlike other places outside of there that I didn't like lol. So You guys made me feel comfortable and actually listened and helped me in so many ways thanks you!
Jabari the manager there - thank you man!
I wanted to say that (Jabari) didn't make me feel like just another "number" there. He TRULY cares and has tons of wisdom, and is compassionate as well, he truly wants the best for us as they all do there!
I've been to other clinics and let me tell you guys that this is by far the BEST one I've been too! I highly recommend it if you know or have anyone that's out there!! I will forever recommend this place to the people that want to get clean and change their life around, this is the place! Give them a call!
Wish you guys all a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year! 🙏 💪 Thank you guys!

The staff is under trained and the executive director over steps her boundaries as she has absolutely no clinical training, experience, and value. The facilities are beautiful, but it is really just an empty shell of a treatment center. Hearing the staff scream at each other through walls was alarming and goes to show that this is a cash scam and just a chance for owners to make a quick buck while clients struggle for purpose and guidance.

Bakersfield, California | Aspire Counseling Services is an outpatient drug and alcohol rehab for adolescents and adults in Bakersfield, California. They offer crisis intervention, medication assisted treatment (MAT), medically supervised ambulatory detox, dual diagnosis care, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), general outpatient (OP), and aftercare p | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I’ve been enrolled in both the behavioral health center and the counseling center for substance abuse. These programs have changed my life and helped me beyond measure. I highly recommend to anyone who is seeking help with addiction and/or mental health. All the counselors in both programs are supportive and insightful in their respective areas of expertise. A group setting along with the various therapy strategies are utilized to help their clients. My personal experience with the anger management courses was eye opening and provided tools to use in my life.( one of my favorites) Another favorite of mine was family group night, for the families of addicts and alcoholics. This was a very beneficial resource for my wife and me. I could go on and on about both of these programs but I’ll end with this. If you come to either of these programs with an open mind and an open heart they are almost guaranteed to help you with your healing journey.

I am forever grateful to the entire team at Aspire Counseling Services. From the moment I arrived, depressed and broken, I was met with compassion, professionalism, and genuine care. This isn't just a facility; it's a place that gives you your life back.
The program itself was incredibly well-structured, blending evidence-based therapies similar to individual counseling and group sessions with holistic approaches such as yoga, gym attendance and mindfulness. This combination helped me address not just the addiction, but the underlying causes and traumas that fueled it. The counselors are not just doing a job; they are dedicated, insightful, and truly invested in each person's recovery.
The environment was safe, clean, and supportive, allowing me to focus entirely on my healing. The aftercare alumni program is a testament to their commitment to long-term recovery.
To anyone hesitant or seeking help for themselves or a loved one: I cannot recommend Aspire highly enough. Taking that first step is terrifying, but this team will walk with you every step of the way. Thank you for giving me a second chance and the tools to build a healthy, sober future.
