About A Caring Alternative

A Caring Alternative is a behavioral health agency serving people in Western North Carolina. Their Morganton location offers adult as well as child and family services.

You can turn to A Caring Alternative if you are dealing with mental illness, substance abuse or both. Their proven curriculum helps you learn how to manage both mental health and substance use disorders.

In this program you’ll become educated about your illness and the treatment options available. Perhaps most important of all, you’ll learn skills to help you retrain your negative thinking patterns. This is called cognitive restructuring and anyone can learn how to do it.

I like that they offer a walk-in clinic during set hours a couple days a week. If you’re feeling like you need urgent attention, you can visit the clinic without an appointment to get some help.

A Caring Alternative is a small, private behavioral health facility. The current president of the company is the founder. They are founded on the CARE values which are commitment, achievement, resourcefulness and empowerment.

This agency tries its best to serve folks with mental health and substance use issues with care and compassion. A Caring Alternative has a wide array of services for kids and adults. Services are provided based on an individual's needs and as those needs change, the services change to meet the individual's need.ACA is a great place to work. I've been an employee for over 15 years and have experienced the care its has for its employees and the support management has for the employees' needs.I wouldn't be part of an agency that does not align with my own values and approach to persons in need.

Accepted Insurance

A Caring Alternative works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

There are many types of drug rehab in North Carolina. To receive treatment for addiction, you can choose from many inpatient and outpatient programs. Often, participants start with detox and work through a full continuum of care that continues with ongoing support for long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I called, I don't think they really give a "shit." At least by the way the answer the phone and their methodology. If you are struggling with mental health do you think people would be more empathetic, a little bit more nurturing to guide someone with the proper place for treatment. Now I get why people are struggling with mental health because the service is provided don't care either.

I'm sorry this was your experience when calling our office. We offer a walk-in clinic from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays in our Morganton office. No appointment needed just bring your ID and insurance card. If you don't have insurance we can help with that as well.

Great employees. Great work with kids and with adults who need help. I can't tell you how many times my friend that works there has spent hours of her own time worried about her clients and her staff there.

If I could I'd give this place half a star considering the fact we have had multiple issues with appointments and they hardly ever answer the phone. TO ANSWER THE QUESTION ITS THE MORGANTON OFFICE !

Hello Michael, I will look into this matter. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as it helps us to improve our services. When you dial our main number 828-437-3000 the auto attendant prompts to identify which office location you re trying to reach. Would you mind letting me know which location? Thank you!

Was promised help I never received help. Pier Support is a joke she was supposed to spend 5 hours a week with me she didn't even spend 5 hours a month with me, she didn't show up when she said she would she couldn't even call me. To tell me she wasn't coming and what 2 hours she spent with me she would be too busy talking on the phone. The experience therapist read questions from a manual .. you guys get paid for services clients don't receive. The whole place needs to be shut down.
