About Westside Treatment

Westside Treatment Center, part of The Heights Treatment Center, LLC, located in the Los Angeles/Santa Monica, California area, is a luxury addiction treatment center. The facility, operating out of a high-rise building, features a large lounge space and outdoor patio. They offer inpatient and outpatient dual diagnosis treatment for adults.

Just 10 minutes from the beach and near restaurants and shopping, Westside Treatment Center is convenient for both residential clients and outpatient clients. They offer four programs – an individualized intensive program, a partial hospitalization program, an intensive outpatient program, and a general outpatient alcohol and drug rehab program.

The residential intensive program runs for 90 days and includes sober living accommodations. The partial hospitalization program includes all-day treatment with nighttime residency at your own home. Intensive outpatient meets several times a week for partial days, and general outpatient treatment involves just one or two individually scheduled sessions per week. Both individual and group counseling are provided, as well as family support. Holistic treatments include yoga, art therapy, and improv groups, where storytelling, song, or comedy might be used to facilitate expression.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and are looking for a luxury rehab with lots of options, this facility could be a good fit. Westside Treatment Center is Joint Commission and CARF accredited and LegitScript certified. They accept major insurance plans and self-pay. Payment plans are available. Be sure to verify your insurance coverage and out of network benefits with your provider and ask about any copays that might be required.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Westside Treatment’s IOP consists of two 90-minute therapy groups per day, either five or three days per week.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for ~ 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Their PHP takes place from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Westside Treatment has specialized alumni programs to let their clients know that they are part of a family of adults who help each other grow as people and who strive to give back to their community.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This is an ok program. Average to below average I'd say. Overall, the therapists are nice. My individual therapist was pretty good. The groups are pretty average although they got old after about a week- very repetitive, mostly not therapeutic, and often focused on random topics not related to recovery at all. From speaking to others in the program while I was there, the general consensus is that the main benefits of the program are the structure and opportunity to make friends and socialize. Most did not find benefit in the groups themselves. The psychiatrist, Dr. James Luzano, is not very competent in my opinion. He does not collaborate with or include clients in their own treatment plans, gives diagnoses that miss the mark and are not based on relevant information, and makes treatment decisions and spouts "facts" about mental health that are not based in research at all. He also forced medication on me that ended up being harmful to me.I also found the clinical director, Susanna De Mari, very difficult to work with. She is arrogant, patronizing, critical, generally invalidating, and unkind. I've heard from others who have had similar experiences with her. She made harmful treatment decisions for me without my consent and did not allow me to participate in these decisions. Since she oversees the program and interacts with clients on a daily basis, this just fed into a negative overall experience for me.Overall, this is not the worst place, but I would not recommend it. It did not contribute to healing or a sense of empowerment for me at all.

Many places bill themselves as dual diagnosis treatment centers but rarely live up to expectations. This was the sixth treatment center I've been to in the past five years, but the first one that truly addressed the mental health side of things in an effective and thorough manner.I did their full three month outpatient program in west Los Angeles. During that time, I cultivated a great working relationship with my therapist, attended a wide breadth of groups led by qualified professionals who knew what heck they were talking about, and saw a psychiatrist who actually listened & talked to me like I was a real person.I gained so much insight and healing from their holistic approach to recovery. I even got EMDR therapy as a part of my treatment (would personally recommend this modality for trauma and PTSD).From the top down, the staff are a lovely bunch of people. I won't name them here, but they know who they are :)I'm so grateful for my time at The Heights!! I believe it was the first time I left treatment equipped for long term success on my recovery journey.

My brother attending the IIP program in Los Angeles in the summer of 2022 and had an extremely wonderful experience. The program worked with him one-on-one to address all of his underlying trauma and how that played into his substance use. He was there for their full 90 day program and stayed in their transitional sober living for a couple extra months following and is still doing great to this day. Our family is eternally grateful to this team and all the hard work they put in for him to get the support that he deperately needed.
